Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Latest images not updating« on: July 17, 2013, 06:13 »
When I changed my local time in the WP admin settings all of a sudden the latest images didn't show up anymore (or only with a delay of several hours) in the Latest Images widget.
That's because an image gets a time stamp when you publish it. When is time stamp is "delayed" in relation to the new local time then the image will only show up when local time matches/passes the time stamp of the image. 253

Got it running, just still customizing text and appearance a little bit.

That's awesome. Thank you so much.
Just to be clear, you did edit the original /wp-content/themes/symbiostock/content-image.php, didn't you? 257

I think JPSDK just doesn't fully understand the concept and the huge potential of Symbiostock yet and I admit that I had similar thoughts when I approached it at the first time.
I so wanted to point you to mushroom blog post but it seems to be down right now: http://blog.melchersystem.com/2013/05/08/crowd-managed-photo-agency/ Hopefully it will show up later because it made things a lot clearer for me. Symbiostock is a technical foundation. What you build on it is your own business. It can be anything from your closed little store to a giant network. But the foundation is there, someone set it for you already. And seriously, it isn't easy to understand until you try it and see for yourself that you can choose your network partners, set your own file sizes and prices and change pretty much anything. Make it as centralized, cluttered, large or small as you want. Set up your own agency if you like. But don't expect that others do the work for you while you sit back and only criticize. Do what you have in mind and stop bitching about things others have done. Or at least do your homework, install a WP/SYS and check it out so you know what you're talking about. 258
Symbiostock - General / Re: Backing Up to DropBox« on: July 15, 2013, 21:21 »
I'm using the Snapshot plugin by WPMUdev which will let you backup everything Wordpress including database and uploads folder.
You can choose storage destinations (like FTP, dropbox, amazon s3 or a folder on your server, or all of it) and you can schedule automatic backups. http://premium.wpmudev.org/project/snapshot/ But I'm using it only for 2 days now so I can't really say how stable or reliable it is. 259

You need to set up your watermark only once. You upload original full size files (without watermark) and they will be processed into different sizes and watermarked at the same time. While still keeping your original file, BTW. You won't need another webspace at Bluehost. Just use the one you already have. To be completely honest, it took me about one week to install and customize my site the way I wanted it (while at the same time uploading a few images to see how it works and looks). But I have never worked with Wordpress before so the bigger part of that customization process has to do with Wordpress, not Symbiostock. Once you're set up, it's pretty smooth sailing and if you do your homework (like IPTC data), it'll be easier and faster than contributing to Alamy. 261
Symbiostock - General / Re: What's holding you back from joining Symbiostock?« on: July 15, 2013, 09:22 »Today's project is to figure out how to make the background transparent. I spent yesterday afternoon looking at how-to videos and instructions. Should have figured it out by now but went to bed last night with the problem unresolved. If you need help with your watermark, send me a PM to exchange email addresses. This way you can send me your design or logo and I'll create the watermark for you. It's a matter of minutes for me. 262

I think I know why traditional stock shooters are very hesitant even though they'd love to have a network powered sales channel with 100% revenue.

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Suggestion for Leo regarding theme updates and info about what it adds/fixes« on: July 14, 2013, 07:56 »
Another suggestion.
The meta title of the website Symbiostock.com is "Symbiostock, the Integrated Microstock Community". Whenever someone posts a link in a forum to symbiostock.com most forum softwares won't show the URL but the title of the site which turns some people off. Not everybody likes microstock very much and the title of the site tells people that Symbiostock is a "microstock only" network which I believe is probably not the intension. So why not change the meta title to "Symbiostock, the Integrated Stock Community"? And one more suggestion. It would really be great if we'd get a 'Editorial Only' check box in the 'Edit Image Area', right where the release check boxes are. Checking this Editorial only should trigger a well visible "FOR EDITORIAL USE ONLY" text or image on the frontend image page. 265

That worked.
Upload folder is back, upload, processing, editing and publishing without issues. Thanks a lot for the help, saved the day. Just a suggestion. A little bit of information about an update might really help. Now I'm going to wipe the sweat off my forehead. 268

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Can't upload any pictures anymore after update to 2.5.6« on: July 13, 2013, 15:11 »
Where do I get 2.5.5? I don't store updates locally.
And will this work and reset that folder structure to before? I just don't want to mess it up more than necessary. 271

I didn't have any issues either, before 2.5.6.
But since this update appeared in my WP update area and I'm not following every single thread on this forum I thought it's safe to run the update (expecting improvements from it). I really don't know what to do now. 274

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Can't upload any pictures anymore after update to 2.5.6« on: July 13, 2013, 14:33 »This thread might have the answer. Some others were seeing that problem with an earlier version I've seen this one but I still don't know what to do. Am I supposed to "update" to the older version 2.5.5? Where would I get this version and will this really work since 2.5.6 has obviously changed the folder structure? |
