Congrats Sharply !

Hey I see you are in Vancouver B.C.
I've been up there only once for work and didn't have time to get around.

Stacey and I are in Seattle. I hope to take her on a cruise or something up there someday. Congrats again on being Feature Photographer at DT.

I am currently trying the free trial version.

It seems to be very well thought out and a pretty powerful piece of software. It is already starting to improve my workflow in less than 2 hours of playing around with it. I hope to give it a more through examination this next weekend.

I have a feeling that I am going to buy the full version. I'll let you know if I do.

I got my 2nd sale there in June  ;)

It resulted in a net of over $17.00 after conversion from being paid in Eurosand. I also noticed that I have Euros from referral sales coming in at 1 Euro per referral sale. With the exchange rate hovering in the $1.50-$1.57 Range that's a very nice referral commission.

I hope the sales continue  ;D

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Canon 400D/Rebel XTi corner
« on: June 23, 2008, 18:42 »
Please, tell me, what RAW converter to use for best results? Then...should I use aRGB in camera setting, or sRGB? Many say that I should go for aRGB, because it has a larger colour gamut. But...my images will be right displayed in sRGB when they'll be thumbnails?

Thank you very much!

I have been using a 400D / xti that I picked up used for several months now and I just love it ;)  I currently use it with a 70-300 sigma lens and am looking to add a "nifty fifty" 50mm as my next lens. I rarely use the 18-55 kit lens that came with it.

I currently use the RAW converter in the Pro edition of Photoshop Elements 6.0.

I hope this help ...

Cameras / Lenses / Re: My nifty 50 arrived!
« on: June 23, 2008, 18:37 »
Bought a Canon 50mm f1.8II. At  $84.95 the freight was half as much again.

Cannot believe how sharp this lens is. And I am expecting some great portraits. Put about 80 shots through it last night. Amazing. Best value for money Canon offers.

I have heard this many times about the "nifty 50" and have been considering it as my next "must have" Canon lens.

Maybe we are slave workers and it seems like we work for $1 per hour.  But how many jobs have you had that you earn dividends after you leave?  Just think of all those great Excel spreadsheets you set up for your department... you got paid to go to work that day, and they are still using your spreadsheets, but you are long gone.

Sure, in it's first year you only earned $1 per hour isolating that pencil.  Maybe next year you will have an EL or a search engine tweak will boost your pencil and it will fly off the shelf.  How many jobs can you earn a dividend over such a long period?  Maybe life insurance sales.  YUCK!

I don't shoot isolated pencils.  I could do that stuff and have a lot of photos on line that sell a little - but over average might bring a nice steady income.  I'd rather send in few of photos that I think will sell - and even then, I am not so good at guessing what might sell anyway, so maybe I should start photographing pencils.

Investing our time in stock photos is a bit like like investing in the stock market, isn't it?  Hopefully less $ investment risked though.

Pixart was absolutely correct when comparing microstock to insurance sales. There are few professions that have the ability to produce what is known as a residual revenue stream. In insurance sales, a good agent could write 100 policies over, say for example,  a couple of months and be paid recurring commissions on those policies (every 6mths or year). They would continue to receive those commissions for as long as they retain their client. However ... get use to cold-calling and hard-core sales "Yuck!"

In Microstock you go through your workflow process for an image once. There are no hassles such as customer servicing of the account. It is basically a lock-and-load "Fire and Forget" strategy and if its well thought-out, and technically sound, it will hit its bullseye mark of many downloads over the shelf-life of the image which can be many years. Repeat the process ... over and over ...

It is truly a beautiful thing. I don't know about you, but each and every day, I love to direct, produce, shoot, edit, upload, and see beautiful results for doing something I put my heart and soul into. To me that is "Priceless."

Mark@ Theres no photos on your SS link??? Did you post this thread on fools day?

I do have a portfolio on SS (currently 122 images approved)   ;D

I am sorry for the error with the SS portfolio link icon. I had it trying to read my login name instead of my member number (operator input error  ::) The SS link to my portfolio should be working properly now.

Thank you for your interest !

Per Dan's suggestion, I will abstain as I just got accepted at the end of May.
However,  I will have a whole month of data for June and its looking to be pretty sweet  ;D

You can then use my numbers and as an example ratio for a newcomer so that you can compare the ratio to that of an established SS veteran's ratio.

I have noticed that with my heaviest uploading activity starting on Friday and continued over the weekend ...  I have large spikes of downloads on Mondays and Wednesdays which seem to correlate when my new files come online which support the sales of my top sellers which are selling daily ...

Bottom line: It would seem that we should upload every day as possible   ;D

Is there a convenient link to see who the "top 50" contributors are on SS? If there is I haven't been able to find it ... just a link for the top 50 images.

Too bad you did not take in consideration SS, that is where I have a lot more images and more sales.

I do not believe it is possible with SS since they do not report out as DT and IS do ...
