It's worth putting ELs at top price allowed. I sell the same amount at 100$ as when I had them at 10$.

I agree with sharpshot some of his best match images aren't particularly suitable for the majority of US buyers but ridiculous to say that none are.
....None of your images that show up in the best match search on the first page of your portfolio would be usable in the US. 2529

Including ELs since the beginning of October until now.
StockXpert 1.00 FT .90 IS .72 SS .34 DT 1.2 FT has 2 X 100$ ELs DT has 1 X 50$ EL SS has 2 x 20$ this month and I don't remember last month.(maybe 3 or 4) Don't usually get many ELs but it has been great lately. ![]() 2531
iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock rejections« on: November 16, 2007, 03:35 »
Same here but although they are being a bit too picky they are usually right and a little adjustment gets it accepted.
. My rejection problems are only with IS - mostly for "over filtered" and "artifacts". It's very typical for me to have an image accepted everywhere - even Crestock - only to have IS reject it. 2532

Achillles is DT not istock
[/quote] I was not aware that acceptance rate was part of the best match search, however DL/image was confirmed and has been part of the best match for as long as I've been at iStock. When did Achilles say that acceptance rate was part of the best match search? There's no economic justification for including acceptance rate (not that I care because my 80.46% is good) because it doesn't impact relevance of the image to the search, nor does it reflect popularity of the image. iStockPhoto.com / Re: More screwed up Best Match« on: November 14, 2007, 01:01 »
Your probably right then. I have the same acceptance rate on IS and when there was a thread about it I didn't seem to do very well against lots of the people posting their rates so I assumed that DT was the same but then maybe only those with very high rates bothered posting.
My dl/ image ratio is over 9 and in one search which produces 2500 results 12 of the first 13 are mine. I can't think of any other reason they are there other than a high dl/ image ratio. My acceptance rate is about 81% which is fairly high but not over high so if it's not that then I don't know what it is as some of the images haven't had many dls yet. 2534
General - Top Sites / Re: do free photos help for sales ?« on: November 14, 2007, 00:53 »
I hadn't thought about that. I wondered why my fiotw at IS and my free image of the day at DT both went on to sell very well after being downloaded free 1000's of times. The one at DT is I believe in my top 10 sellers. (can't check at the moment as DT seems to be down.
Isn't one idea of giving stuff away for free to have it downloaded hundreds of times so that it has a very good search engine placement once you resume charging for it? 2535

I think that this is because on DT it is because of the way the best match works rather than manipulation by contributors. The DT relevancy search definitly seems to favour images by photographers with a high Dls/image ratio and high acceptance rate so you find a lot by one particular contributor on the first page of the search. 2537
Dreamstime.com / Re: Rejected release...« on: November 13, 2007, 09:55 »
Simply re-upload. The same happended to me after uploading dozens of images with the same release they suddenly realized that it said Istock in small print at the bottom and rejected some.
After you have uploaded the new one write to support and get them to assign all your images using the old release to the new release or they won't all show up in the section where you can see more images by the same model. 2538

I've just said on another thread that I am getting more subs now but that the level change has more than made up the difference and sales in general are very good there at the moment.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: More screwed up Best Match« on: November 13, 2007, 01:45 ». There also seems to be some type of correlation between the size of the image (XXL) and how it ranks in best match searchesI think that was just because these people or person was uploading xxl images so as they had so many images on the first page it looked like xxl was being given priority. So don't all rush out and get a camera expecting to get on the first page ![]() 2540
StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert, something wrong here?« on: November 13, 2007, 01:36 »
I'm not getting many subs. yet. I had 10 sales yesterday and none of them were subs.
I am getting more at DT now but the level change has made up for the loss in price and my average sale price is usually near to 1.50$. I'm getting quite a few sales of between 1.50$ and 4$. 2541

General - Top Sites / Re: Most important things for downloads?« on: November 11, 2007, 12:10 »
I didn't mean to spam keywords but to make sure that you have all relevant keywords. I have seen images of a child with the word child missing from the keywords, etc etc.
Keywording is one of the most important things. There's no point having wonderful photos if nobody can find them. It's probably true. But I don't agree at 100%. For the example of an orange taken in macro, you have about 30 keywords who are good and 10 at the limit to be. 2544
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Two accounts, same person, its possible?« on: November 11, 2007, 04:13 »
Nobody is saying that position in best match search isn't important just that reviews make none or very littly difference to what the position is.
My best rated photos don't do well in the searches generally but I have a lot of images that show on the first page of searches with none or very few reviews. 2545

Looking at my portfolio ratings seem to have very little or nothing to do with position in search.

StockXpert was the last site I joined of the 5 sites that I upload to. Like you I found them very slow to get started but they are now slowly starting to catch up with fotolia and dreamstime.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Free photos, help or hurt?« on: November 10, 2007, 01:56 »I think sites that have like a weekly or daily free photo is good. But if they have an entire section with thousands of free photos like Fotolia and Dreamstime, it just hurts sales overall. I think so at least. I totally agree with this. It doesn't seem good business sense to me to have a whole section free. I'm sure that most buyers will check out that section first and often find something suitable resulting in a loss of a sale. I've had the same experience as yingyang0 on both DT and SS in that a free image has gone on to be one of my best earners which amazed me given the 1000's of times that they were downloaded free. 2550
Dreamstime.com / Re: New DT Search Engine Sucks!« on: November 10, 2007, 01:50 »
That's just one of the things figured into the popular search I read on the forums that they also take into consideration the overall Dls/ image number.
Many of you are wondering why your sales aren't doing so well at DT. |
