General Stock Discussion / Re: Which Site Will be Next to TanK?
« on: November 12, 2008, 15:28 »
I can tell you that Cutcaster is going nowhere but up.  We are very happy with our progress and have strong financial backing.  Plus I am way more open about the inner workings of our company than most others.  My burn rate and overhead is extremely low and we could hum along for at least a few years.  I just spend on marketing and tech projects. But I love the few doubters and the challenge.  Brings out the competitiveness in me when I get bet against.

What shocks me is that companies like DRR can burn through 15mm and have nothing to show for it.

With all due respect John, if you are saying your overheads are very low, is that not a reflection of how hard you are pushing the site at present.

Just to say "we could hum along for at least a few years" doesn't sound really convincing and a bit casual I would think in this very competitive market.
Contributors have every reason to be doubtful, this arises from their previous experiences with other new sites.

The problem is, as we have seen in other posts above, when sales are not forthcoming  people stop uploading and that is not good for CC.

All that said I do wish you success - good luck!

Best wishes John!

Who knows what the stocks are, then he knows what can expect in business like microstock.... ;-)
No doubt for Cutcaster!

I suspect that cutcaster or Yay would be likely targets. Snap village is another candidate.

I'd second that!

Chasing up my first payout - no response from support so far.

I uploaded my 200+ best when they opened for business and have seen a grand total of 2 sales. That performance ranks it far below even Lucky Oliver in their declining months. My expectations now of Jay is hovering around zero. That puts it neck and neck with SnapVillage.

In my estimation, you could tie the two together! - say no more!

Bigstock.com / It Gets Boring!
« on: October 31, 2008, 11:52 »
Well, it really is getting a bit tedious now.
Every time I log into BigStock I'm seeing the same old earnings balance.

I've had 4 sales there in 2 months - earnings have really sank there for me!
Is there some explanation?

I have been on RB for more than a year now.
To date I have had 9 sales.
I'm not really all that concerned about the sales as my port there is for images that are not really stock.

It's a good place to showcase your more creative work.

Newbie Discussion / Re: Cleaning your sensor.
« on: October 26, 2008, 17:01 »
Thanks for the responses!  My camera has the self cleaning but I just returened from a mission trip to Nicaragua and I am sure that all the garbage in the camera came from that dusty, muddy trip. ;)

From what you can gather these days there is no completely effective anti dust system on SLR's.
That's one good thing about Bridge cameras-that you dont have to worry about this.
But getting a superzoonm to produce the quality needed is another thing!

I checked and I am opted in for affiliates.

I checked and I only see a button for Alliances. Is that the right place to opt in or out?
  That's the place OK!

I switched over to Firefox and got in from there but still unable to log in with my regular browser.
Any suggestions?
the only thing i can think of is perharps your other browser has been updated and maybe has a pop up blocker activated.
other situations i had with certain sites are my virus protector was blocking it.
but nothing ever like that happened with stock sites.

my only suggestion is to perharps check your preference to the other browser,
maybe you set something different this time and it 's prevent you from logging in.
in most cases, it is the popup blocker.
well at least you got in with firefox. careful with firefox latest update. i had a problem
with upload my image to a newspaper's blog because the latest firefox update was blocking it.

crazy things these updates, huh!  good to know you got in StockXpert anyway.

There seemed to be a problem with my Robo Form - fiddled it a bit and got sorted.
I think all the problem came from an update.

Thanks for all your help and suggestions.

Can't log in at all this evening  :-\

well, once again, a moment ago i went in to check for you. i not only got in, but also i found i just made a sale 1.50 on an image i just uploaded before the end of last week. got approved and got a sale
with only a few view.

takestock, maybe it's your browser or bookmark that is corrupted.  i've been doing lots of things since monday a.m. even double checking my keywords and adding my new approved image to lightbox.
uploaded more images, all without problems.

hope it will clear up for you too. are you in north am? maybe it's a server in your country .

Hali,
People are getting tired - these have been covered before and yes- both are very sparodic performers, (for me anyaway)

Right now I think, the jury is out on quite a few.

Since I started this thread back in June, I still have had no sales.
As I said, I have stopped uploading but unfortunately for me I have earnings there short of my first payout.

Phew!! :'(

I just wonder if your camera pixel count really does affects the search on some sites. It's another ponderable!
I have my doubts - as there could be equally good or better images in the database that have been shot at a lower res and would not show up.

I feel if it is so, then the site in question should state this, as it would only encourage contributors to upgrade their kit and thus provide better quality images for the agency to market.

« on: October 12, 2008, 14:49 »
Thanks Leaf for that - have opted in.

Are they shipping to Europe ( can't find on site) and if so will charges make it worthwhile for us?

yes, they ship to Europe and as far as I can tell they also accept paypal, which is good for european microstock photographers because they dont have to get they money changed at the poor paypal exchange rate.

I suppose it depends on where ou live, but i know buying in the states, and paying shipping is a lot cheaper for me than buying in Norway.
