I don't think they're going to get many volunteers.  Maybe some amateur phone shooters with little else to do.

My new GoPro Hero 6 outputs 4K - 60fps and 2.7K - 120fps clips in HEVC - H 265 only.  Final Cut Pro, DaVinci Resolve (free version), Quicktime and imovie all fail to open the files.  The internet says FCP will update eventually...

I downloaded a trial version of Brorsoft Video Converter.  It does convert to 422 which would be okay for short clips but the file sizes are too far too big to work with if you have an hour of footage to chop.  Anyone working in Final Cut Pro with GoPro Hero 6 in h265 yet?  If so please let me know the best conversion work flow.

Update:  Updated my Mac system to High Sierra and updated imovie.  HEVC - H 265 will preview in Quick Time Player and Finder and import into imovie.. but will not export 4K.  Seems crazy that FCP is lagging behind.

New Sites - General / Re: Storyblocks approved images

No image sales yet. Video sales are doing okay. I wonder why the image sales are not taking off at all for me.

It's probably because your images do not show up in the initial search results.  Buyers have to un-click the membership library button to see your images.

Slab City is know for it's folk art and graffiti.  Architecturally it's mostly old motorhomes on slabs.   Releases from artists would be needed for commercial use of the art.

Please add the ability to change video thumbnails.  The current system often misses the best spots.

This is the main reason I stopped uploading to istock.

These countries have human beings, dont they?

Taking pictures of elderly people moving around, being helped or cared for by family, young people repairing cars or working in construction, families cooking together.

And you can do it in local clothes, or get a T-shirt and old jeans (not very expensive in these countries)...and voila...many scenes can be created in a generic way for the world market.

Sports, yoga, body weight exercises...looking after pets, taking care of the farm...environmental issues, global warming, pollution in cities...

Women starting a small business and families working together with their business. All kinds of images of children in learning situations.

And of course there are probably a million recipes waiting, travel locations, young people working on computers...I mean you need to have a computer and an internet connection, so there is already a certain selection going on.

There is a strong demand for localised content from all parts of the world.

There are thousands of artists from these countries already uploading really excellent stock.

the biggest barrier is internet access, but with mobile phones going everywhere, I am sure there will soon be hundreds of thousands joining the stock race.
Which is what I've been trying. However people here are very camera shy or hostile. Even normal street photography focusing on some people is met with anger. Heaven forbid if you look like you are trying to shoot a girl

I think the suggestions refer to working with paid models in staged set ups.  Street photography of people can only be used as editorial.

At some point exponential growth will come to a halt often spectacularly as investors have often found. I think we are seeing the first signs of this.

I believe 50% annual exponential growth will continue for the next five years.  In 2022 top agencies will have a billion plus images.  Best to adjust business plans and expectations accordingly.
Its a matter of opinion of course but currently 157m images 1,145,643 new images added this week. To achieve 50% growth they would need more like 1.5m images this week (and more next and so on) Thats quite a gap.

My math was: 157 million images x1.5 x1.5 x1.5 x1.5 x1.5 = 1192 million images in 2022.  I hope the billion plus images agency totals do not happen but I think it will.

Don't the lawmakers in France have more important issues to work on?  Like poverty, crime and terrorism?

Etsy's FAQ - Terms of Use seems to exclude the use of "stock photos".  Seems this could apply even if an extended license was bought.

"You are using your own photographs -- not stock photos, artistic renderings, or photos used by other sellers or sites. Read more about using appropriate photographs in this Help article."

https://www.etsy.com/legal/sellers/#allowed?ref=us_sell

"Using commercial stock images or others images of items similar to your own is not permitted. Etsy defines stock images as any image produced by individuals who are not involved in your shop for items they have made. We also restrict the use of digitally produced, mocked-up, or rendered images that arent of the finished product."

When the search results arrive there should be a small arrow on the upper left.  It opens a search filters menu.

Stocksy / Re: Call To Artists is Open!
« on: September 18, 2017, 09:27 »
If image/series exclusivity is required, does this mean images that have never been sold elsewhere, or can I use images that have previously been available as long as I remove them from other sites?

Stocksy said the last time, that you can sell them on Stocksy but you have to remove them from other sites.

Is there a grace period for Alamy contributors?  Image removal takes 6 months there.

Going through cryptocurrencies projects I found Creativechain.org it describes itself as "a multimedia marketplace for distributed intellectual property"

"Thanks to Creativechains peer-to-peer ecosystem we can forget about the opaque and centralized models of content distribution whose intermediaries set huge fees that make the work of authors more expensive."

"At Creativechain we are challenging the centralized power of traditional systems of copyright management entities. We offer a public and transparent alternative to intellectual property registration using revolutionary distributed technology blockchain"

It sounds exciting science fiction, what do you think guys?
I signed up for beta testing and downloaded crea wallet.

Apparently cryptocurrencies are here to stay and blockchain is a revolutionary technology ::)

Maybe Leaf can set up a blockchain for us.  Then we can mine microstock-bucks.

Newbie Discussion / Re: what's with all the frustration !
« on: September 10, 2017, 13:26 »
Why would somebody in their right mind pull their portfolio if they got fed up with an agency? Makes more sense to just leave it and forget about it...then get some PayPal payment without expecting.

One example of when having a big ego does more harm than good.

Nonpayment (then theft) of contributor funds. (Revostock)
Partner programs with no opt out. (Panther)
Predatory price drops. (take your pick)

Are three reason to remove your port from low performing agencies.

Occasionally I sell stuff through a "I sold it" store.  They take half.. but all I need to do is drop it off.

I am opted out as well but didnt receive the email. Can you post it here, please?

I am also opted out of the desositphotos partner programs.  Thought I'd check and make sure nothing changed.   I don't see the button anymore... did they remove it?

144.7 million images X 57% annual growth = 1 billion images in less than 5 years.  They had less than 5 million when I started.

We need to figure our how to compete in a billion image environment.  Or accept being buried.

Image Sleuth / Re: THIEF ! on Shutterstock...
« on: July 26, 2017, 19:46 »
Good job taking this thief down. I ran into a few over the years and it's never a good experience. It's a good thing SS is quick to respond with portfolio take downs.
We used to send DMCAs to pirate sites. But recently we are talking about 8 major microstock sites and half of them not even respond to the takedown notices (including Getty/istock). Things getting worse. Agencies are not as responsive as they used to be.

Many microstock sites would only take down portfolios if they're hosted on the same site as your original images. You can easily prove that it's your work by having an lower Image ID, but they're hesitant if your work is not hosted on their microstock website. It's hard to prove what work belongs to who and who is the original owner. If they take down portfolios on a whim, you'd get a lot of legit portfolios taken down if thieves start requesting portfolio take downs.

I once wrote EyeEm about a stolen image and included links to several sites where the image existed for years.  I do not contribute to EyeEm but they were fast about removing the stolen image and the account.  I appreciate them doing the right thing quickly.
