Just to give my two cents
I ve upped two months ago around 40 videos to test if the low low royalties is a reality.

During two months I saw 5 videos downloaded. Wow! Really quick to sold!
Now I have my royalties for three videos: 0.30, 0.92, 0.36....
WOW really the worst sells I do with clips.

Of course no more upload, now I'll see in next month's the value of others downloads

Adobe Stock / Re: New stock shoot video for Touch and Tactility
« on: December 17, 2018, 10:37 »
That's really interesting Matt, thanks!
Video is really nice and give many tips about how to plan a shooting.
Did you do also stock footage during the shooting? I mean commercial stock clips, not informative?
I ask because one of the most difficult things I find during my shootings is to mix photo and video, changing is not easy even when you like to capture the same subject/mood in both media.

Practical questions to better understand results: how many hours of work it takes? And, if you can tell, how much it costs (models+props), a total approx amount? How many images finally was produced from shooting? How long do you plan to reach break even and start to earn from this shooting?

Thank you very much! Sorry if some or all questions are answered during the video, I'm not english native speaking so I could miss something of your speech.

Thank you very much for . Like you, I struggle with the balance of video and photo on a shoot. This is something I am actively working on as video is out of my comfort zone. It is most definitely in your best interest to add video to your portfolio every opportunity you can. It's top of mind for me, I just need to work on my technique more to become a successful video contributor. There is a learning curve but I'm working on it.

For your other questions...I believe the shoot lasted around 6 or 7 hours all said and done with a break in the middle. I usually find models via Model Mayhem and sometimes Instagram (search for #seattlemodel for example). The rates vary, when it's a shoot like this for an Adobe video the rate is usually higher than what I normally pay because of the added element of the video production. As a result, 5 models at a higher rate for a full day, exclusive only to Adobe Stock it will likely take a year or more to break even. I didn't have to pay for the location which certainly helps. There was some cost for food and props but not much.

When I am shooting on my own budget I usually offer $200 for a 2-3 hour shoot per model. In most cases I break even within a few months assuming there are no other expenses involved. Sometimes less time...sometimes...well, I'm still waiting to break even. It depends on a number of factors  at the top of the list being the quality of the content I capture. I am definitely of the mindset that microstock is a marathon and not a race. I don't expect to break even immediately but over the course of time most, if not all shoots I've paid for have earned far more than my initial costs and continue to earn for me year after year.

As far as usable images, I'm pretty heavy handed with the shutter and pulled around 400 stock worthy files. A lot of those were similars however so I think it was reduced to around 250 or so that I submitted for review.

Thanks again,

Mat

It's great to have Mat, much more than a direct interface with one agency, also a person who share experience on producing contents with other contributors, thanks a lot :)

Yes, mixing photo and video in the same shooting is really hard: different lights, needs of camera movement, and also... changing your own mind for a completely different media. Let's try, but I honestly think that really good results can be obtained only in team work, one doing photo and one doing video. It's not only technical issue, it's brain issue :)

"In 2000, Ray founded DVArchive.com, an internet based stock footage library with the intent of making the imagery from his extensive travels available to a wide variety of film and media producers.

Ray’s imagery of the world is now carried by most of the world’s major stock footage libraries including Shutterstock, Pond5 and Adobe Stock."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rick_Ray

This blows my mind.
This guy has 1500 NASA clips on his website that he sells for $99 each.
This might be the best stock footage business model I heard of - Make huge amounts of money from footage that's not even yours.
If I was one of the American contributors here I would stop everything and RUN to find these Beta SP tapes in the NASA archives and give this man some competition...

Yes exactly, anyone else can do the same. Clients are not forced to buy these clips, you can obtain that for free.
But probably you also have to do the job of transposing a lot of footage from many different sources in something good and ready to use, I think this is the trick and it is a very hard work, not easy not simple and not free for sure

280
You're not crazy, it's illegal what he does.

Nasa footage and images are in the public domain indeed but you cannot resell them as stock.
Shutterstock says it themselves that you can only submit NASA footage if you use it in a creative way to make something new and add in the description that parts of the image were done with NASA images.

Public domain means public domain. Where have you read that you have to use it in creative way?
Is there a link about this? Just to understand, because I don't think this is correct

281
NASA gives public domain rights to its media, it's only due to give credits for what I know

General - Stock Video / Re: "Crossroads" on Shutterstock

For everybody late for the party, here is a summed up with visual screenshots how SS actually works behind the scenes: https://video-stock.org/the-magic-button-at-shutterstock/

I really can't understand the link between this "magic button" for one or two contributor with the "cap theory" on other thousands of contributors.

I don't know if it's a glitch, but is perfectly legit for the agency to give more space to best sellers contributor (too much space, unbelievable space, I agree!). But how could this affect the famous "cap"? These are two really different things, and one can't work well with the other one ;-)

Newbie ports are pushed to the top of the search and established contributor’s work is pushed back

I do not believe. ONE single contributor pushed up for quite all simple search key? There should be other explanation.

New contributor having more visibility is not conspiracy theory, it's perfectly legit.
But why should be only one between hundreds, maybe thousands, it's nonsense and goes against agency itself interests.

Really? It's interesting to read, but in my opinion it's not really the truth. People still likes "retro" style images 😁
Of course for this style there is a gigantic competition, but there is still great demand, I think

It's great feedback, I appreciate the debate.

It's great to have a personal voice inside Adobe to talk with, and I appreciate a lot your work Mat, I think it's great!

To the point, I'm absolutely agree with you: the chance to take a look at what really sells give great suggestions on moods and styles, much more than a risk to be copied in a single image.
Thanks for this great idea for contributors

My thought:

Don't worry, nothing special it's happening  :)
One year it's very little time to calculate the short and long periods fluctuations.
One important thing that you should have in mind is: you should not expect a continuos growing trend, it's normal that trend will slowly reach a point that you will find day by day more difficult to overdrive.
It's a statistic trend, nothing personal

But I would be happy if someone should give a different more optimistic answer :)

Matt said once that fotolia stat report include ft views only, if I remember well.
So it could be that from now also Adobe views has been added.
BTW I see great increase of views too

Not sure where you saw that, but the 50% acceptance was not mentioned in ANY promo blurb that I read. And that includes the general news feed I read just today (Sunday, Sept 16) on this subject.

Well, at the contrary, it's cleary written just at the top of this thread itself.
To qualify you need to one of the first 20,000 contributors to have 300 files approved or have $500 in earnings since January 1, 2018 with a 50% or higher approval ratio to receive a CCP member.
And it's also clearly written on the FAQ!
An faq has been created to answer most questions. If you have any other questions please let me know.
https://helpx.adobe.com/stock/contributor/help/creative-cloud-giveaway-FAQ.html

Well, maybe you should do a double check :-D and read official source instead of various third parties announcements :-)

Thanks everyone. I hope you are enjoying your software and look forward to seeing what you create with it!

Mat Hayward

Thanks Mat, all precious infos!  :)

I want to let you know a side "problem", I post it here as this could be useful for someone else

I'm Adobe customer (photographer plan) before this free offer.
BUT instead of standard plan I had a plus, taken from a special offer months ago: 1Tb of cloud space instead of standard 20Gb

After having received my code I contacted via chat the Adobe customer care to understand how to use the code AND at the same time save the same cloud space. The answer was to activate the code immediately and the cloud space would be remain the same. I was doubtful about this and, in fact, instead of free year photographer plan subscription I gained two subscription plans... one is one year free for contributors with 20 Gb cloud space, other is the payed plan with 1Tb cloud space.

As I can understood, there was no way to exchange plans, and also no way to pay only the addition for the 1Tb cloud space (well, really there could a way to do that, but it would more expensive than the simple plan I had before! So it's the same to say "no way")

Finally: now I've activated my free yearly plan but I necessarily had to close the 1TB cloud space; this involved a lot of work for to empty cloud, and move files to other places, and, bad for Adobe, I'll be no more 1Tb cloud space subscriber... not for my choice, but for strange cross of different offers.

I know it's difficult for big company to trace every single situation ;-) but just to let you know, Adobe gave me a great gift (thanks!) and at the same time had forced me to close the extra payed plan. Also the kind guy at the chat told me "I'm sorry I can't do more than this for you, I can only close the payed plan without penalty"

So for all of you that don't have a standard plan on Adobe take carefully when activate your free plan.
I know, as I read on FAQ, that any subscription planes different than standard ones should be taken at the end before activating the free one, but maybe this is not really clear, also on Adobe customer care side!

And, for Mat, please suggest to your colleague to send more infos to other countries customer care (I'm from Italy, and the people at the customer care seems to be not really informed about situations like these). And suggest to your marketing dept to find a good way to solve situations like mine, so you will not loose 1Tb cloud subscriber (paying customer!) giving at the same time app subscription for free :)

Last: sorry for my poor english :-D I Hope you understand everything :)

292
Mat, is the run closed or there are still places available for full plan?
I'm uploading many video clips but I haven't reached the 300 approved yet, I would like to know if I have to run... and run  ;D

Thanks

293
Mat, you're a treasure! Thanks.

I can only say that Mat is really kind and precious person! He check my position giving me confirm I'm qualify, and the exact day when I should had received mail.
I checked again my mailbox: if this can help anyone else, the mail was in the spam folder NOT on my mail app, but on mail server side. If you can't find the mail on your pc check also on server, if possible.

Thanks again Mat for your time and for working for us :-)

294
I've checked and searched and nothing from CompEXT.

I didn't see anything about opening a case, but used the Contact Us from the contributor part of Adobe Stock, which I hope will get to the correct people

Exactly the same for me, thanks Matt for your help :)

295
Is there anyone else who is qualified who hasn't received a code?

I'm in that situation, but wondered if the codes didn't all go out at once for whatever reason and they're not yet done.

Yep, me too.

Me too
I was over 300 image approved when Matt made the announce. My fotolia account is synced with adobe

Newbie Discussion / Re: Anyone Use Blackbox?
« on: August 17, 2018, 16:40 »
I hear a lot of speculation, and most of it does not make any sense to me at all.

Well, I was thinking to test them and, at the opposite, I found many useful info!

As for their small number of sales so far.  Yeah, and why would you expect otherwise?

Maybe because I'll pay them? 😁
Those who sell video here have often said that video does not sell quickly, and that it often takes many months or even more than a year to get the first sale from a clip.  If 80% or more of their stock is less than 30 days old, how would you expect higher sales yet?

Maybe because I'll pay them? 😁
Complaint that the same number of videos is not on every agency?  Well, do you have 100% acceptance on your media? Have you never had media accepted on one be rejected on another?

If they have special agreement with agencies I don't expect to have clips rejected from agencies, maybe from themselves.
That alone could easily account for the number difference.  Add the fact that the portfolio is very new, and the turnaround for reviewing video is much longer than photos, and I think the rest of the difference is easily explained.

It's all true. But if I should go to give them my port there should be good reasons not to go by myself: higher percentage of sells, quick review without expecting rejections, and so on

If I choose to go with them is not to have same numbers and timing of indipendente seller, that's for sure

So, sales came in before the announcement:

Congratulations! Your photos were selected by Getty Images and are now available for licensing on gettyimages.com.

Same message usually received from eyeem... Selected doesnt mean sold

Personally I think 50% ongoing discount would be an appropriate arrangement.

50% discount better of one year free???
Strange way to think about it.
Of course! After two years, you're in ongoing profit.

Ahhh yes you're talking about a forever 50%.... Well, in this case it could be good but I can't see any reason for Adobe to give such non requested offer.
Meanwhile, I'm not sure of which software I'll use in 2020.

Just to say that this is a nice idea from an agency for contributors, and I really see no reasons to decline.

Of course Adobe is trying to attract new subscribers. That is their job. It's very easy to get it and do not renew subscription after one year so I don't see the negative point.

299
I qualify but no email. Since I subscribe monthly to PS and PR, I doubt I'll get one. It's probably just a ploy to get new subscribers. Personally I think 50% ongoing discount would be an appropriate arrangement.

50% discount better of one year free???
Strange way to think about it. Anyway as you said you qualify, please donate me your coupon 😁
It s possible, Matt had clearly talk about this option! 😁

my friends have told me that my videos are worth only $1.50 anyway  :-\

OMG 😁 Well you can always answer that not only video quality but mostly subjects needs and license request from buyer will make the price!
