I was having a crapy day,  and got that...

Okay, 2 credits or whatever they call it is no problem..but I must say when I eyeballed some
email from nowhwere addresssing me by my nickname not real name and with that message...

There is so much phishing scams on the internet, you never know when you get some weird emails.

Hi,
I got this email from istock saying that recently of images on istock have been purchased from peopel with unauthorized card numbers etc...Okay they removed 2 royalties, whatever that mean from one of my file that I take was purchased.

This is the first that that ever happened to me.

Is that normal?

Hi
I know nearly everyone in the microstockgroup is a photographer.....
I'd like to find out how many here are illustrators, contributing vectors or 3D or digital paintings.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: How does the Istock Upload limit works?
« on: January 23, 2011, 00:26 »
I don't know Luis...
My canister is silver, I'm only allowed to upload per week 24 of vectors, and 24 of photos..

iStockPhoto.com / How does the Istock Upload limit works?
« on: January 22, 2011, 20:04 »
I'm wondering here....
HOw does that work for non exlcusives? Does the limit increases with time?

MY upload limit is set at 24/168

I wish they give you a per year limit, instead of a week limit.

So at this upload limit rate, if I wanted to increase my portfolio, I would only be able to upload 1248 this year.

iStockPhoto.com / Your opinion about the Istock Partner Program
« on: January 18, 2011, 14:57 »
What is your opinion on the Istock partner this year with all the changes?

Is it good?
I opted out last year when I found out that one of the partners were using my real name instead of my pseudonym. I don't use my real name on microstock.
On Istock I have my copyright set to show my "member name.

I'm wondering if they fixed that, and if the copyright will be under the option you set at Istock?

Alamy.com / Re: Return - Editorial v Royalty Free
« on: January 11, 2011, 13:15 »
I found the blog I was reading, and the post is a year old.         http://bit.ly/6EUVyC

I got the impression RF would bring in more than RM after reading the blog...
I know, it all depends on a loooot of factors.

Alamy.com / Return - Editorial v Royalty Free
« on: January 09, 2011, 18:38 »
I was reading somewhere in someone's blog that rights managed license sell more than RF, however the return per image is lower, as the usage is very restricted.

Are some RM licenses as low as micro prices...is that true?

So is that true that the Royalty Free return per image is higher and generates more sales, because it has less rescritions?

Veer / Re: The Veer Puzzle
« on: September 30, 2010, 23:26 »
Rasters are a looot cheaper than EPS on veer...
At the begining I only sent JPGs...
It took a while, but then I realized that JPG's were too cheap,
it seemed like I was undercuting myself...I'm not exclusive on IStock,
I may start sending EPS there. Sales there are slow and low...but since
EPS cost more it may be better.

iStockPhoto.com / Istock vector logos...where did that go?
« on: September 29, 2010, 15:07 »
Remember that istock was going to sell logos?
Im wondering what happened to that...

I know a lot of people submited a bunch...

314
I would prefer image exclusivity than portfolio exclusivity...

Illustration - General / Illustrators? Where are you?
« on: September 14, 2010, 11:50 »
Hi,
I know this list is mainly for photographers, but
I'm wondering here, how many illustrators are here and
what type of illustration category they prefer.

- vector graphic elements, vector cartoons etc
- 3D
- bitmap illustration (digital painting)

316
If you are doing illustrations...if they look more clpartiiish, like the ones
on the micros, then RF is best.
If they are conceptual, more on the fine art side, then RM it is.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: iStock changing royalty structure
« on: September 07, 2010, 17:00 »
Oh bad news for non exclusives like me
with a smallish portfolio there.

if they are going to open the door for this "premium colllection" and add
images from external??? agencies, even if they are more expensive, I guess there will be endless images to compete in ranking.

In 2009 there were 5 million files on Istock, but since is growing fast...I wonder this year they reached 6- 7 million files already?

I can't help wonder if the addition of a new collection and more contributors if that will double the number of images..

iStockPhoto.com / Re: I'm on Thinkstock?
« on: September 01, 2010, 12:23 »

A while ago I only realized I was on Thinkstock when I was googling
my full name and saw credits to an image in a blog from india.

I didnt' want to be on thinkstock, but worse yet...I always use my   "member name" /pseudonym on microstock sites, never my real name.  Just a choice I've made.

The only time I slipped and used my real name was on the Veer site, and
I regret so so so much...because from there  it was "harvested" by some porn site..showing up in google searches.
Unfortunatelly I tried the google removal tool in all possible ways, to no avail.  :-X

iStockPhoto.com / Does image rating leads to more sales?
« on: August 12, 2010, 09:58 »
Hi,
Does the image position in the search engine changes when people rate your image?
What is the benefit of getting ratings?

Off Topic / Re: Anyone else ever get an email like this?
« on: August 09, 2010, 17:20 »
Be careful witth  those.

I was on another forum , an illustration forum.
not in here. and someone got the same type of email, with different names tho,
different request, but it was along these lines.

There are a lot of scammers getting creative now...
If that is a scam, I wonder how that would work.

it sucks ...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: New iStockphoto web design - IT'S LIVE!
« on: August 07, 2010, 23:13 »
This month my sales started to pick up again I was so happy....

now....I'm freaking out..OLOLOL

One interesting thing....I noticed that the images on portfolios show
the new images first  in the order I uploaded.  Well, I like this way
and I love that we can see 200 thumbs in one page!

322
Great idea...Im going to check smugmug for next time it happens to be an individual asking for it.
i agree madelaide,..ad agencies, publishers, studios usually pay after.  :(

323
Hi thanks for answering...and sharing yoru experience...
You are right....the ammount is not worth the hassle... Im on the east coast, the person is on the west coast,
I would actually pay for more fillings, travelling, and never receiving the money LOL
Lesson learned, lesson learned. painfully.

There isn't much else you can do, short of going the small claims court route, but I have done that in the past (not related to photo licenses). Even if you win the suit, you still need to collect the money. Which requires even more time and expense and you may never get the money from the person. If you do much threatening, you could be in trouble for harassment. Have you tried bartering with them? Taking something they have (like a product they sell, etc.) in exchange for the $300?

For $300, I would say "lesson learned". Always get the money up front unless you really know and trust the person. And if it's family, under any circumstances, get the money up front!  ;)

324
It was for 300, not microstock. I did some work to customize, yes...
I didn't put money in the shoot, because actually was artwork..
so I didn't have expenses like photogs have.

325
Hi,
I usually request payment upfront etc..but I slipped.
I know a lot of people may sell images licenses directly ....how you guys in the USA handle unpaid invoices considered you sent several invoice reminders, listened to excuses etc. The person is not usign the image, but you feel they will use in the future?

Basically things you could do without using collection agencies, laywers or small courts.
Do you send some sort of "final notice" , do you get a lawyer to send it for you?, or you send a letter of Cease and Desist?

Thanks
