New Sites - General / Re: Superhug sells stock images
« on: August 19, 2011, 05:35 »
I joined and uploaded a group of 19 photos.  The upload went smoothly, but of course I first had to put the photos in a zipped file.  I'll probably wait for the FTP functionality before uploading more.

The photos were listed under "unpublished items," and I assume they'll be published after inspection.  Am I correct?

There is only a place holder where the preview image should be.

Overall, I like the site, I like the concept, and I think the idea of making stock photos available on such a template site makes good business sense.  I applaud and appreciate the time, talent, effort, and venture capital that you've invested in your project, and I hope it succeeds beyond your wildest expectations.   :)

123RF / Re: Review Times
« on: August 13, 2011, 10:44 »
I uploaded 29 images on May 15 of this year.  Somehow, the model release didn't attach to the images, and they were understandably rejected for that reason.  The rejection notice says, "Once you've rectified the problem(s) above, we'll be more than happy to review your images once more."  I attached the proper release to the images and sent a message to the support staff.  To date, there has been no response, nor has there been any action on the images.  I'm thinking that perhaps I should just delete them and reupload/resubmit them.  I haven't uploaded images since that time because I'm thinking that perhaps this is how the staff generally operates, and I can't afford to spend that kind of time just to get images inspected.  So far, my impression of RF123 is not good.   :-\

Although the inspection process could use some adjustments, IMHO, I get more action in a day on the images that get approved than I get on other sites in a month.  The flip side of that coin is that with 33 cents per download (as a general rule), I need a lot more activity to translate that activity into decent $$.  For instance, I've got 34 downloads so far this month, and only $17.  That's just wrong!  But that's just the reality, so hi ho, hi ho, it's off to shoot I go...   8)

Based on my experience, I've come to the conclusion that the following criteria are used by the inspectors in determining whether or not to approve an image:

+ Weather
+ Outdoor temperature
+ Indoor temperature
+ The phase of the moon
+ The health of the inspector's pet
+ Whether or not the inspector's sciatica is acting up
+ Whether or not the inspector "got any" the night before

There may be other criteria that I haven't discovered yet, but these allow us to plan our work in ways that increase our chances for acceptance.   :P

It seems that many contributors have fogotten that money isnt going to be what makes you all happy.

True.  But the lack of it will certainly make me unhappy!  (Not to mention hungry!)

It seems I'm not able to join (again) ??  :(

'We are sorry, but you are not able to participate in Promotional Program at this time.'

Me, either.  From the site:  "Only selected photographers and illustrators will be able to participate in this Promotional Program."   :P

Too much work for too little.  I'm out.

Very slow for me, and the rejection rate is higher than other sites (in my experience).  I'll only upload if I have nothing else to do, which is very rare for me.   :P

Veer / Re: Review Times
« on: August 03, 2011, 13:44 »
I uploaded 45 files on July 1.  All but one were inspected a short while ago (today is August 3).  Prior to that, I had ten files in my Veer catalog, and much to my surprise, got two sales.  That's very unusual in my experience - two sales with only ten images.  I can't help but wonder if that's a fluke or if it's a sign of good things to come.  But a month-long review time is a bit hard to work with.   :-\

General - Top Sites / Rejection Inconsistency - A Good Laugh
« on: August 02, 2011, 07:21 »
This photo was rejected at SS ("Poor Lighting--Poor or uneven lighting, or shadows. White balance may be incorrect."):

But I add a simple graphic to the same photo, without any additional modification whatsoever, and it gets approved (submitted in the same batch):

It sold within hours.  On DT, however, both are rejected, with the usual list of possible reasons (pick a reason, any reason...).  I had to chuckle...   :P

General Stock Discussion / Re: Video Presentations
« on: July 27, 2011, 07:33 »
Thanks so much for posting these.  I found them to be very informative and inspirational.  I'm still wondering, though, how on earth these photographers make enough with stock to pay the travel and other expenses, plus make enough of a profit to earn a living.  Surely they're getting more than the paltry 33 cents I'm getting for each sale.   :P

I disagree with those who don't see any commercial value in the batch.  I see commercial value in all of them.  We can never predict what kind of project a graphic designer will be asked to work on, or what kind of photograph the designer will need.  So when one of the sites rejects a photo for LCV, it always makes me chuckle because we've left the realm of the objective and quantifiable technical realm and entered the realm of the completely subjective, which can be subject to the whims and moods of the inspector.  For example, I once shot a model in a long, flowing dress underwater.  She wasn't doing anything - just enjoying the water with slow, deliberate motion.  We had no clue what it might be used for, but we liked the idea and the resulting footage.  Lo and behold, it got picked up for use in a music video.  That's not something that anyone could have predicted.  Thus, it seems to me a good idea to avoid the subjective and opinion on the part of inspectors, and stick to the technical.

That said, there are a few that I don't think I would lead with for my first ten.  Others I would, like the black-and-white one.  I think the streaked traffic has been done so much that it's cliche.  It too me eight submissions to SS before I got accepted, and it seemed like a moving target.  Two of those submissions were all photos that had passed inspection in previous batches.  But I finally made it, and I'm seeing daily sales.  Sometimes, though, I still think I get an inspector whose girlfriend broke up with him the night before.   :P

I always wondered why no agency did ever serious consider image-stacking, of course the first image that you see in the stack should be defined by the contributor. But which would be a way to submit variations from a shoot without spamming the data-base with too many similiars.

This makes perfect sense to me, and I don't understand why it's not common practice among the sites.  As a video producer, I've had occasion wherein I want several photographs of the same subject with only slight differences to create a rapid montage video.  I might give each photo a fraction of a second, so if I want a three-second clip, I might use a dozen different photos; perhaps even more.  I wouldn't be able to shop on DT because of their policy of rejecting more than two or three shots of the same subject for being too similar.  I've had photos rejected at SS for the same reason, and my experience has been that all of the sites do it to some extent.  It doesn't make sense to me, but the image-stacking idea certainly does.  We might offer special pricing for purchasing the entire stack, but hell, we're already working for peanuts.   :'(

Microstock Services / Re: BS and PSM !?
« on: June 30, 2011, 04:48 »
I use PSM to input the data, but it has too many problems with uploading, so I use FTP, and the data transfers with it.  However, in any batch there are always a few for which the data doesn't transfer.  It's always the same photos from site to site.  The data is there, but it doesn't transfer.  I don't know if the problems are with the sites or with PSM.

The solution to this very real problem lies in being able to file your own lawsuit and act as a "pro se" (representing yourself) litigant in the USA.  It can be done, but not without the knowledge that comes with a course developed by Dr. Frederick Graves specifically for these types of situations in which the lack of money precludes access to the courts and to justice.  I took the course, and the legal system no longer intimidates me.  I can now file my own lawsuits, defend myself if one is filed against me, and gain access to the courts with confidence.  I strongly recommend it to every freedom-loving American.  Check it out at www.jurisdictionary.com.  These thieves who steal our work are fully aware that we're in this situation, but when you can tell them that you don't need a lawyer in order to file a complaint against them, it changes the situation dramatically.

DT sales for me are only occasional.  I get a lot more activity at SS.

In my experience, video sales on CanStockPhoto are occasional at best.  They recently transferred a lot of my videos to another server and corrupted them in the process.  I probably won't go through the hassle of reuploading them.

« on: June 22, 2011, 05:23 »
like I said before do isolations and people, I have amost 100% in.. they have ton but hell they want more so we do it  ;D

The vast majority of what I shoot is people (models), and my first mass rejection was a series with one beautiful young woman (most of which were accepted on other sites).  It was followed by a series of editorial shots of the media circus across from the Orange County courthouse in Orlando, almost all of which was accepted.  I don't think we'll ever figure out what they want because it seems to be a moving target.  Even so, SS is still the best-selling and best-performing site for me.

123RF / Re: How do you delete photos off of 123RF?
« on: June 18, 2011, 05:15 »
My site mail notification says I have 19 new emails, but I can only see 11; ten of which I received on May 23 from the inspector(s) letting me know that my latest submission of 29 images were rejected because I neglected to assign model releases to them.  I assigned the proper releases and sent a reply on June 1, asking that the photos be reviewed, per the information in the rejection notices.  I've heard nothing to date.

An extended license would allow such use of stock images, would it not?

I've never done a resubmit.  It doesn't make the folks at SS angry?

Cutcaster / Re: Submitter Stats
« on: June 15, 2011, 06:39 »
When I look at Media Files -> Overview, I see only one rejected file.  The rest are approved.  The total is 550 files.  However, the statistics to the right indicates a total of 651 files, 549 of which were approved.  So the system is accurately subtracting the one rejected file from the 550 listed under the overview, but 101 files are unaccounted for (651-550=101).  If memory serves me correctly, they were rejected, so it would seem that the system is in need of some reprogramming.  In fact, I ceased uploading to CC because of the last round of rejections, and because of zero sales since I began to upload in March of last year.

I think she's utterly amazing.  Mastery of the technical aspects, and a true artist with unmatched vision and imagination.  I'm fascinated with her ability to combine hand-drawn material with photographs, and I wish I had that much creativity and technical prowess.  Say what you will, but I'm now a fan.

I recently had an entire batch rejected, which was a first for me on SS.  Right behind that was a batch of editorial shots, most of which were accepted.
