I'd like to thank the members here that clued me into Videoblocks. Made a few grand off that tip so far. Keeping a great company like that a "secret" would be a total d!ck move. The beauty of a place like MSG is that artists can share the good as well as the bad. I know many of you have an instinctual urge to undermine your "competitors" and do nothing but complain, insult and try to drag everyone else down around you. That's a depressingly lonely way to go through life.

It's called protecting your assets and livelihood. I think sharing technical, creative and other ideas and advice is great, but giving financial details of sales is just plain stupid.

no..

it's because you all came here to brag about your sales and people who weren't even aware of videoblocks learned about that site which automatically created competition for you..

everybody wants a piece of the pie.. once people hear it's a good site, they will flood that site with their own content..

if you are having great sales on a given site, the most important way to maintain your sales is;

to "not announce that site on public forums"  :D

You're completely right. people just want to brag about their successes and shoot themselves in the foot while they do it. I'm the same though and have been having major success at motion elements and depositphotos while everyone else targets the obvious agencies.

Alamy passed shutterstock.

Not suspicious at all. Lol.

A complete and utter joke with zero credibility

I also have to add that i can not believe that Alamy is a low performer by nature. There are 40.000 contributors and over 70 million images, Why so many contributors would submit that many images to an Agency if no decent money can be made? Again i think it is just a question of knowing how to keyword and not give up on uploading because the system is different.

Alamy is a well known poor performer. Here's a link to the Alamy forum where people report on their monthly earnings.

http://discussion.alamy.com/index.php?/topic/5592-march-wow/

My Getty account outperforms my Alamy by about 1500%. My micro outperforms Alamy by about 1000% I have a decent well rounded Alamy portfolio of 7000 images.

Those Alamy results are totally false. I am with several agencies and know the capabilities of Alamy. Compared to most agencies they severely under perform. Someone is entering false data on Alamy for whatever reason.

Alamy has currently 110 votes in this poll (Shutterstock 169, Istock 132 to put it into perspective).
Must be a lot of "someones" working together to skew the results.

Good point, however knowing the performance of my own Alamy account over several years, as well as observing the contributor monthly reported earnings string on the Alamy forum (over a long period of time), I still find these results barely credible. They were for so long middle tier and within the last couple of months they're suddenly near the top. I'm sure many people are as dubious as I am.

Photos are making a strong comeback. Footage is dying quickly

Well since I increased my video prices to $79 as advised,  not one single sale  :-\

It's hardly going to happen overnight, plus it depends on how many videos you have live, the quality and subject matter. Give it three months and then report back.

Would have to be a mistake

MY paypal VB payment went through fine this month, however I had this exact same problem with another agency a couple of months ago. The following month the payment from that agency was back to normal. I'm picking it's a bug on the paypal side. Hang in there, it'll get sorted I'm sure, but do contact VB to get the payment resent.

Anyone earning less than US$20 Net average per download is doing something wrong. That should be the ultimate lowest threshold a professional videographer should tolerate.

123RF / Re: Video pricing at 123RF
« on: March 07, 2016, 23:13 »
Which tier do you usually use for video pricing at 123RF?
The differences between them seem too wide to get a good price. Tier 1 is HD: $65, 4K: $130, which seems reasonable for HD but too cheap for 4K. But Tier 2 is HD: $90, 4K: $330, which is a decent price for HD but the 4K version of that is much higher than other places. The tiers are missing a reasonable middle ground.

I use tier 2, the middle tier. I did get one sale once at the highest tier, about $120 net but decided against setting all video on this tier as it seemed very expensive

Alamy, if you were to get rid of excessive similars and tighten up on QC you could easily eliminate 10 million plus images from the library. This would be attractive to clients.

Alamy is a great place to submit photos to if you don't want any sales.

It's impossible to make over $25 a month at 123RF

Sorry to hear that. Probably you need to upload more/better work.

No, I mean for anyone and everyone

I earned approximately - none of your business and what a stupid nosy invading question. Okay now that is out of the way and I have vented, I earned between $0 and $1,000,000. Now I will get all the doubters this forum thrives on and they will ask me to see my portfolio to prove it.

Great answer

40K is quite achievable, even in 2016. 2015 was my first year in Microstock and I see that number as being very achievable in a year or 2.

Here's the problem... it may look achievable today based on your RPI, RPD or however you're measuring and projecting your output and expected revenue.

But tomorrow will be vastly different.  In a year or two, there may be two or three times as many competing images at the agencies as there are today.  Unless you're doubling or tripling your own port size every year, there's no hope at maintaining growth in revenue at the rate you're growing it today.

It's known as "the Wall" and it used to hit microstockers after several years, but at the current pace of growth of supply at the agencies, even rookies are seeing "the Wall" come down very quickly after starting their own ports.

It's all a numbers game, and it's one we simply can't win.

I agree, so lets all stop making new content now.
