Is the keywording service that's offered at Dreamstime worth it? Anyone have any experiences to share?

A lot of people can look at the clothing and location and determine if they are in an image. It's best to get a release for any image with a person it.

I know it is true. They've deleted my posts, even when the post isn't controversial.

Whatever it was it's fixed itself for now. When it finally came back up my sitemail popped up with a spam message for someone selling stuff. Maybe it was a glitch in the sitemail system.

I was in the middle of an upload when I was kicked to the login screen. After several attempts I finally got in but then as soon as I clicked to go anywhere I was kicked backed to the log in screen. When I finally got logged back in the system opened a pop up window of the log in screen.

Did I miss a scheduled down time?

You'll only ever good things about IS in their forums. Problems are only talked about in non-public forums like Exclusive, Inspector and Getty forums. Like many of the other sites they have been known to delete or lock any threads/posts that express negativity or point out a flaw in the system.

Alamy takes applications just go to the website and sign up. Acclaim Images is a "mid stock".  Most of the macro won't talk to you if you have ever been on  a micro-stock. They feel that micro pricing degrades the value of the images. Digital Railroad was one such company and they are out of business. If you want to do your own marketing and negotiation you can look into Photoshelter Archive. They used to have a "stock" department called the Photoshelter Collection but it went under earlier this year.

I only have 2nd hand knowledge of the experience. Some contributors have complained about .25 cent commissions on Getty images which were countered by other contributors stating that those are equaled out with $30 or $40 commissions. Your not going to see a lot of issues in the main IS forums for the same reason that you don't see anything but good comments about exclusivity there. Each group has their own forums so that problems can be hashed out behind closed doors.

I've also heard that you can upload an image to one or the other, not both.

There used to be a countdown timer in your financials tab.  Click on "payouts report". When I requested a payment it was usually accurate to within 24 hours.

I was exclusive for 3 years. I've been independent since mid Oct. Since I left I have gotten more downloads, and those downloads are in bigger sizes. As an exclusive I struggled to get 2 dls a day and often couldn't break $100 a month without an EL. When I did get downloads they would be Dollar Bin or Xsmall images mostly.

4 weeks is to early to really tell true results, but so far I have more dls at SS then I do at IS, counting only the time that I have been independent. This was with a record breaking 9 dls in one day at IS. IS only barely came in as ahead in royalties and I suspect that SS will pass IS this month.

The other thing I noticed is that I no longer care about the favored contributors at IS. It used to matter because, as my only stock agency, it was infuriating that my images wouldn't show up until page 10, while reported spammers continue to be allowed the first pages of any search result. I know of a few that I have personally reported several times yet they are allowed to continue labeling blank pages as "Birth Certificates" and groups of children as "porch", even though my image of a child in a costume that reads "SWAT" across the front was be rejected for using the word "SWAT" as a keyword. Yes, as an exclusive I was getting images rejected for keywords.

I also no longer get upset when I find out that the business card program is broken again, or when I find out that some "exclusives only" deal was really only open to a few hand-picked people. They make a lot of promises to get you be exclusive. The reality is that you get a little more per download and a a stack of free cards from MOO that you can pass around. That's it.

I forgot to add that it only takes a week to get your images rejected as an exclusive. That's another perk you get rejected in one week instead of 2.

I wish you the best of luck. I was exclusive for years but left last month. Once the novelty wears off and you realize that not all exclusives are created equal you may change your mind.

« on: November 11, 2008, 14:25 »
I've been to two in different area's. Both were just a small group of ISers getting together. One went really well and I got alot of great images. The other went ok but there was one photographer who refused to share the backdrop he was using, which he didn't bring. He also forbid anyone to use the model that came with him.

As with most events everything hinges on the personalities in the room. Lypses used to always be open to anyone who could afford the ticket price and the travel. Lately they have been limiting these events to Exclusives only. The event in Seattle was for Diamond levels and above only. I can understand why they are moving to only allowing exclusives as one of the unwritten rules is tht the images taken on these events will only be sold on IS.

IS will help out with smaller events if the event is run by an exclusive and certain criteria are followed.

Dreamstime.com / Re: MR Question
« on: November 10, 2008, 19:25 »
I gave up on waiting for support to email me back and I called them. I pointed out that both the physical and mailing address are on the release, which is the legal way to list the address on contracts. She told me to resubmit the images and make a note to the reviewer that the address is fine.

I also asked about getting my 20% acceptance rate changed so that I could upload more than 5 images a day since the issue was due to their mistake. She took my user name but mentioned that it was doubtful that anything could be done. What I didn't realize was how cumbersome the resubmit process is.

I'm beginning to think it will be easier to just forget using the resubmit and I'll upload the images fresh making a note about the releases.

« on: November 07, 2008, 10:18 »
I had 4 that were "out of focus" and I'm not arguing over those. Out of 150 uploads I had roughly 100 rejected for "PO Box on MR". I have another 90 to go but I'm not going up finish them until I find out if it's worth it since they are also mostly people images.

Dreamstime.com / Re: MR Question
« on: November 07, 2008, 09:36 »
I can get the MR's resigned if I have to but that means that there is no way to contact these models. I might as well write 1600 Pennsylvania Ave as their address because all mail will be refused if the PO Box is not listed. The PO here does not accept anything that does not say "PO Box XXXX".

What's making me crazy is that they accepted several images using the same address. A 4 line with physical and PO Box listed. But now that I uploaded the bulk of my portfolio all of my people images have been refused, bringing my upload limit down to 5 images a day. On top of that it means that 90% of my portfolio has been rejected which makes it pointless for me to stay with DT as an agency.

Dreamstime.com / Re: MR Question
« on: November 07, 2008, 08:01 »
The rejection specifically states that PO Boxes are not allowed and then gives a long explanation about how the MR is a contract and must be complete.

The confusing part is that some images, using the same release have been approved, but others are rejected for the MR. It almost is like I got the new guy for some of the reviews and he didn't notice that both addresses were listed or saw the PO Box and didn't read the rest to see that it was included with a building number.

Dreamstime.com / MR Question
« on: November 06, 2008, 19:07 »
I have a question about MRs. I have several images of Native American Children that I have submitted. The reservation does not deliver mail door to door so your main addresses is a PO Box. On the Model release I put the street address, followed by the PO Box and then the city, state, zip etc.

These releases have now been rejected for some images and accepted for others. What is the procedure for MR's where the person can not actually get mail at the physical address? Should I just resubmit the images as is or should I delete the approved images, basically my entire portfolio that were approved using the same release?

I tried asking this on the DT forums but the thread was deleted and I was told to ask support. I did send the same note to support but I'm still waiting for an answer. Has anyone here run into this issue before?

There was a link to an F5 announcement in one of the posts. The F5 is that they are planning a trip to Berlin open to 50 exclusives only. It's some sort of spy theme.

Well if they posted an "F5" announcement then we only have 4 weeks or so to wait until they finally reveal the news, which will probably be less interesting than the hype any way.

I just tried to log in to IS but the site hangs until it errors out. I'm not having this issue with any other site. Anyone else having an this issue?

I'm wondering if they confused "Cancel Exclusivity" with "Cancel Account"
