Adobe Stock / Re: I am so sick of Fotolia rejects..
« on: January 08, 2010, 14:19 »
has anyone gotten this rejection reason from ft? "Your photographic work is excellent but does not meet the needs of the Fotolia customer base."

it's almost like a compliment isn't it? from ft who likes to ridicule our work as not aesthetically pleasing. there's a first for everything.

i need to meditate on that...

i also just had my first 10 rejected out of 10, at any site, for the first time. ouch!
i guess they're realizing too late that limiting uploads might increase dl.

Canon / Re: What CF Card for a 5D Mark II?
« on: January 07, 2010, 15:12 »
even though the 32gb is a great deal, it will slow down a lot once you start filling it up and transferring may take hours. it's best to go above 233x speed.

i just ordered the Lexar Professional Series UDMA 16 GB 300x for my nikon d700 (no video).

can you give me some examples of wrong stats?

actually, since you fixed the problem with showing old data, i don't have a problem with rank anymore. but to cite specific examples, i'll need to name names. maybe i can pm you instead.

by the way, i do appreciate this little tool and everything about msg you've accomplished.  :)

i'm only seeing sterling, but mine are rm (licenced) photos, with very different prices depending upon type of usage.

however, for other people's rf images, i'm only seeing set prices in sterling also. i'm based in the us. if you want to pm your url, i can tell you what i see for your images.

I haven't uploaded to either so it's funny I have a rank.

i think this whole rank thing is really suspect. first of all, i had disabled any public istock info in my profile. second,  some people with more downloads have a lower rank and others with less dls have a higher rank than me. i am pretty new so i'm not complaining about my rank but it just seem a little screwy like john's experience.  ???

Shutterstock.com / Re: Editorial at SS
« on: January 05, 2010, 23:27 »

So the question is: Say I'm at an event and I shoot like Jimmy Olson and get the scoop photo. Rush back to the Daily Planet darkroom, or my computer. Edit and upload to one of the above sites, SS most likely, as news/editorial, properly punctuated with the caps in the right places. Wow, someone buys it.

i'm sure if you got the scoop photo like jimmy olson, you'd have more options open to you and be smart enough to submit to getty instead of ss or dt. if you get a super scoop, pm me and i'll act as your agent.  ;)

from an editorial point of view, this is stuff the news desk might grind out on a slow (or no) news day.

in terms of  cultural/ethnic interest, i was intrigued by your 'small inaccessible community in the Bukidnon mountains'. i mean if you had a name for this subtribe that was part of a larger anthropoligical study of southeast asia, it would be a lot more significant. otherwise, it reminds me of all the backyard barbeques people have in these inaccessible neighborhoods during the summer months in the mountain behind where i live.  ;)

it's still a great photo, though!

Adobe Stock / Re: 2010 Fotolia Tax coming !!
« on: January 05, 2010, 17:33 »
Where is everyone seeing the tax percent being taken off? Also I cannot find where to view whether it was a US or non-US sale? If i am a US resident and i already filled out a form in the past do I have to do it again? Or does this only apply to non-US residents. Sorry I am very confused...
you can see it in "My Credits", and another part in "My Files" - "Statistics" - "How many credit have I earned from US buyers?"

thanks, i never noticed that. i am based in the us but have yet to file a w-9 form. no tax has been witheld yet and approx. 50% of my credits are through us buyers.

if you follow this caption to the T, you're golden.  it's really not that hard.  :)

CITY - MONTH, DATE: description of event with date, including year and place.

if it's news or current, the review will be that much faster. looking at my own event editorials, they're still selling well 4 months later, to my surprise.

i am still an StockXpert fan bigtime, and only a tiny IS follower, only because IS is related to StockXpert, not vice versa.

i like to start this thread to show StockXpert, we want a new revival StockXpert... WITH OR WITHOUT GETTY.
i am sure many or at least some of you feel the way i do with StockXpert.

maybe this is how we let them know we want them to be their own site...
and not just some lackie of IS.

i totally support the continuation of StockXpert, in whatever form or guise. they're pretty solid in my books and their reviewers are very sharp and on the ball. although i joined only a few months ago, they never faltered throughout the whole handover. in any case, i hope people would stop writing these RIP obituaries. you get what you wish for and i wish for continued success for StockXpert.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock Survey
« on: January 05, 2010, 16:44 »
well, the whole survey was sponsored by b&h photos...i think they are starting to value contributors as future cash cows, flush with all that microstock income. i just parted with a few grand on a new camera, so they caught me kind of late for all these photographic services.

but they do seem interested to see if photogs are interested in doing more video, etc. again, this all point to new equipment sales...

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT in trouble?
« on: January 05, 2010, 13:42 »
Beside being the only agency in the world that does not allow you to submit images on the Getty generic release, which results in massive extra paperwork,

?? i use only the generic getty release without any problems, just not in massive #s. otherwise, you're right about everything else.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Lot of Red on the Right
« on: January 05, 2010, 13:34 »
Getting back to the OP ....

I've always wondered how others vote on this poll. Myself, I assign 10 to my #1, 9 to my #2, 8 to my #3, etc.

I wish there was a better, more accurate way to reflect reality. But if I assigned by percentages (80% = 8), IS would get a 3, SS a 2, and everyone else a 1.  Obviously that's no good.

So how do YOU answer this poll?

yes, it's quite true...the yardstick seems pretty relative now that you've pointed it out. i don't give a 10 unless it was an outstanding month (not even bme). bme starts at 9, and all the other agencies fall in line percentage wise. ie 85% of bme is a 8, etc.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Nikon D3X
« on: January 01, 2010, 15:35 »

Hi ap

It is very good low light camera, no problems going ISO 800 or higher for events or weddings.
My flash bateries can now last for the whole night.
It is smaller than a D3, so it's easier to cary around (but same quality as a D3), so far I am very happy and I finaly retired my D200.
Go for it if you are in wedding or any sort of event photography, it is good even for stock.
Portraits are much better coming out straight from camera (than D200).

thanx, kone. it's actually being shipped to me as we speak. thrilled won't have to lug around a tripod or flash anymore. will be bringing this to either the sundance or santa barbara film fest to test it out...which lenses are you using? am thinking 70-200mm and 14-24mm.

It say the line for cool aide is forming in the back of the fotolia tent all members are required to drink some and love fotolia for eternity.

....and you can buy the kool-aide mug here. http://www.zazzle.com/drinking_the_kool_aid_mug-168603992711451526 it's good for any and all microstock sites. ;D (kool-aide not included)
