I want to close my StockXpert account so that none of my images will appear on Thinkstock. I've already deactivated all but 1 image on iStock. I have about $37 in my StockXpert account at the moment. If I close my account, will I get that money, or will it disappear?

Looks like I deactivated my portfolio (except for 1 file that has never sold) just in time!

Full speed ahead!!

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Lens Quandary Tamron f2.8 17-50 vs 28-75

I own both of those lenses and have produced lots of microstock images with them. One give you a bit more on the wide end, the other gives a bit more reach.

I would buy either again, so I guess it's just a matter of which is less expensive and whether you need more on the wide or telephoto end.

I just wanted to give you guys an update of where we are in the development process.

So far we have completed the following:
  • Uploading images (including IPTC recognition)
  • Primary photo color recognition and listing
  • Individual photo or .zip archive upload
  • Portfolio display

Next up:
  • Payment integration/content delivery
  • Search functions

We're plugging away!  ;)

Elvinstar, any chance you would be interested in developing a stock module for Drupal?
I am a big fan of Drupal and use it for all my sites. I would be very interested to have a module for selling stock.

I spoke with our programmer and he says that this is something that will not be included in the initial launch, but may be added down the road.

357
We're still at it. There's a WHOLE LOT of coding when you're building from scratch.  ;D

We'll have a date for you soon!

It seems a lot of people instinctively want sites that network with their friend's images. I thought that was my idea!

sorry I probably just wanted to highlight this important part of your post! Of course it was and is your idea!

That was actually brought up in this thread about selling direct back in November.

All meta data is gone, and agencies wont accept images where the data is stripped, no? Or I might be wrong.

But as soon as the IP owner finds out, a simple DMCA is enough to shut them down.

Even if that's the case, it's easy enough to add meta data to an image...

This is a bit OT, but it found it funny that I made more on SS yesterday alone than I have all month on IS. I can't wait for the 2nd!

I hope that Lobo keeps posting this sort of tripe. Anyone with a brain in their head can see what he's trying (and paid) to do.

I think that more people will leave iStock than will decide to stay as a result of his posts.

I sometimes like to turn things upside down.

Now what if, we instead of clinging to our files, gave them away for free.
Since they are being given away anyway.
That would take the breath out of those pirating agencies.

Like shooting back with their own ammunition.

So I hereby declare, that if I ever find one of my files in these giveaway shows. Ill give it away from my homepage, in the original size and resolution.

What about that?

As misguided as it may seem to some, I like your line of thinking!

I hope this isn't too off-topic, but I've just had another negative IPTC surprise that I'd like to mention, given the concern we have about the stripping of IPTC data in the Google case.

I submit images to a print magazine that has a website and a Facebook page. They sometimes post low-res images to promote the magazine. With all this Google stuff going on, I decided to download one of my images from their Facebook page to check the IPTC info. Yep, it's gone. Totally blank IPTC form. Does Facebook strip ITPC too?

The pic is low-res but plenty good enough to be used online.

You're right - I didn't know about it. I just tried to upload image to FB and download it and IPCT data disappeared.

I would think that this is fairly common on any website where you upload photos. The original image containing the IPTC data is not being served. When the file gets uploaded, one or more sizes are automatically created and those files contain only the image data, not the IPTC.

What we're developing will run on LAMP (linux, apache, mySQL, PHP) servers, but I'll talk to the lead programmer and see what he says. I'll post back on this thread with the response.

We're making good progress on our soon-to-be-available software for selling direct on your own website. We'll be pricing it affordably and including the features that you need so sell your own work on your own site.

We'll let you know when we're ready for beta!

Seems like a decent idea. We've got the skills, but not the time, as we're working on a new sell-on-your-own-site software for microstockers.

« on: January 18, 2013, 12:07 »
The thing to keep in mind is that Getty/iStock has shown us that they feel that they have the right to do as they please with OUR intellectual property. That includes licensing them to Google so that Google can give them away.

There is no trust left. I'm deleting my portfolio not to "make a difference," but to keep my images from being taken out of my control or given away completely.

Regardless of what Getty/iStock has to say now or in the future, my images will not be available for license through them.

369
I believe that I read somewhere that someone at Google posted on a blog saying something to the effect of, "I hope you are getting permission from the photographers before going ahead with this deal."

I'm firmly in the "Getty is evil" camp.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Time for an iStock replacement site?
« on: January 15, 2013, 09:59 »
Also there was a project going on for artists to have their own sites linked together discussed a while back, not sure where that is at the moment in terms of rollout.

I'm not sure if you are referring to this thread about selling on your own site, but we are making good progress. Having the ability to link individual sites together into one marketplace is definitely somehting that we're planning to offer, but perhaps not in the initial launch.

We'll have some more news for you fairly soon.
