Dreamstime.com / Re: new port, no sales...
« on: May 23, 2013, 03:46 »
The fact that other people than myself experience fits and starts of sales suggests that they control who gets them and when.
I get my sales in fits and starts as well but the overall earnings are good.  They don't make a secret of the fact that they change their best match formula around regularly to give as many people as possible a chance to get sales. I can have a low day and then the next day earn 6 or 7 times more.  This happens often.

I sell pretty well on DT so much so that they have often been my number one in earnings although not so much in the last year.  I find that it takes ages for an image to take off but once it does then it stays near the top of the searches.

MY RPD at IS last month was  79c  making it almost exactly in line with SS but with about half the sales.

You went from 100dls a month to 40 in half a month. Thats not destroying a years work imo, but a 20% drop, and it might pick up in the second half of may. With 300 images, a drop is much more in spikes as the effect of a few less sales is amplified. Just keep working away and your bottom line will go up.
He said that he expects to finish the month with 40 and only because the beginning of the month was good so it is a much bigger drop.

When they change the search there are winners and there are losers. Unfortunately for you this time you are one of the losers.  Another time it might be you that benefits from it and others will be complaining while you are smiling. It's just the way it works and it happens some time or other to all of us.

Do a test and try it both ways.  Upload them so that only you can see them.

There might be problems on the site as I couldn't get my stats to open a little while ago.

I'm having a normal to good month at SS.

Why my links looks like that...?
Because you are a newbie on this site.  Once you have posted a few times any links you post will work.  It's to deter spammers.

I often get things like that happen at different agencies but unless it is a huge amount of money they don't usually either notice or go to the bother of claiming a few dollars back.

Can Stock is mid tier for me. Way above any of the others on the low tier list.

. As they expressed frustration at the speed of the site I suggested they tried SS instead telling them not only how much faster and accurate the SS search was likely to be but also how IS paid me only 18% of sales.
I honestly don't get the sense of sending clients to one of the sites with the lowest rpd.   I would always send them to DT where my rpd is consistently 3 or 4 times more.

You can follow the progression of your sales for the previous month using this link:

http://www.istockphoto.com/user_stats.php?id=&Offset=0&DownloadsGraphFileType=
(hint: PP sales are the green bits).

or in more detail on the Partner Program Sales page.

Thanks for those links.  I only ever knew how to get to my stats through my profile page, and lately that has been loading very slowly, if at all.  Your links will be a big time and aggravation saver :).

Thanks from me as well.  It normally takes ages to get to those pages.

I've shot many images inside people's homes and never been asked for a PR by any agency.
Do you spend a lot of time moving everything out of the way and putting in generic furnishings/electonics/carpets/curtains etc, or do you go out of your way to find interiors which have none of these things?
I mean, iS famously rejected an image where, if you zoomed in to 400%, with the eye of faith you could 'just' make out YKK on the zip of someone who wasn't themselves even filling the frame.
Obviously, you'd remove all logos etc, but just looking around my house, which is not 'designer' furnished, I'm still sure the furnishings, electronics etc would be easily recognisable to the manufacturer, much more so than blurry background people who need MRs in case they can 'recognise themselves in context'.
Even thinking of bookcases - you'd either have to change all the book spines or show empty bookcases and shelves. Looking at mine, I remember that all my wooden furniture was made by a mid-market company which nevertheless has a special corner device which they featured a lot in their advertising so maybe is registered.
I tend to use parts of the home that are generic, sofas, dining table etc.  I have photoshopped one of my photos into  pictures or photos in frames a couple of times.

PhotoDune / Re: Model Releases on PhotoDune - what to do?
« on: May 09, 2013, 03:10 »
It took me ages to work out how to upload the releases to photodune but now that I have worked it out I prefer the system to most sites way of doing it.   No having to go back in and attatch releases individually.  It can be a real pain when you have a group model session where they don't all appear in every photo and this system saves a lot of work in that type of session.

GLStock / Re: Sales anyone?
« on: May 04, 2013, 06:46 »
Sales have improved a lot for me in the last 2 months.  I did nearly 20$ there in March and nearly 30$ in April. The average before was only about 10$ a month.

How do I find links to your portfolios? I have over 50 photos on SS and have had 7 downloads. All 25c each. Mactrunk talks about making over 200$ from 50 pics. Need to understand what to shoot and if I am actually do that with limited amount of time I have to spend on photography
No he said that he added 50 new images but has a total of over 400 images.
Not everybody puts portfolio links but for those that do click on the small icons under their posts

370
I had a BME  due to a lot of ELs that I had one day this month.  If you take away the ELs it was an average to good month.   RPD is down.

Not to sound arrogant and rude, but I think most vector artist are not selling their artworks, but actually selling their dignity at 0.25 cents at the big 4 which seemed degrading to me. All those years of learning and honing of skills for the sake of 25 cents is a waste of time, and a question of self-worth.

I think that 25c is low but how can they be selling their dignity when the same vector can sell 1000s of times.  It is only a matter of 25c if you only get one download.

For me the single most annoying thing is... Dreamstime.
Really, I really like that site.

373
I've done the same as Lisa.  I delete most of them but the occasional one that comes up and hasn't sold anywhere else for years goes to the free section.  I have probably only got about 3 images for free.

374
A little note: I have got a -1 to one of my previous post.

I completely accept when somebody put a negative vote to my comments.
As we are different and we can have different or opposite points of view I think that is is normal, but I would be very more happy if these people will give the reasons why, and don't hide as cowards behind anonymity.

Thank you for understanding :)

(Now put all the minus that you want here :D :D)
I can't see anything wrong with that post. Maybe they meant to put a + and pressed the wrong button.

"Infamy infamy ! They've all got it in for me "

A cultural allusion that will be lost on most here!
Not me, but I think that ages us.
LOL me too.  Kenneth Williams if I remember correctly.
