I was kicked OUT of CC because of this topic

thats why you go anonymous on here... or dont bad mouth an agency for anyone to see. besides, 2 sales in 2 years, you will never have cashed out anyways so no big deal right?

So I have a question for the ones who voted that shutterstock was right to terminate the account:
Why did you vote so?

if u have to use a filter, its a pretty good indicator your not even worth a second look to an agency that is predominantly subscriptions based.

+1

Then they have to say so in their TOS. Your argument is missing logic. Beyond that, do you wanna delete everyones Portfolio who "has to use a filter". I am under the impression that your argument is rather based on emotions than logic.

I think you have it backwards my friend. your argument is based on ideology and mine is based on reality. im being LOGICAL and seeing it from the agencies point of view. SS currently has more than enough contributors. Enough talent is already in SS. They will not waste time and resources on certain types of contributors (low performing).
What are they going to re-write on their TOS? "We used to beg for images and accepted almost anybody before, but due to our success and the amount of quality images in our library, if your portfolio falls below a certain standard we see fit for our library, we will find faults in ur images and reject your photos and delete your account if there is any slight breach of contract."

The only people that HAS to use a filter are the types that really cant create it on their own. Or their lazy, and it doesn't pay to be lazy in micro.

Well, whatever they've done has resulted in me not having a sale in the last couple of hours.  That NEVER happens on a weekday.

Just keeps going from bad to worse over there  ::)

Maybe its the tens of thousands of new "+" collection images in front of yours  ::)

Sorry, not quite following your point...

A boost to the + collections takes up slots. if your images were being shown at the first three pages, maybe they are at page 7 now. im just guessing but everything factors in here and a boost IMO is definately a big factor. I would use up all my + slots now if i were u.

how many images are too many images? i think SS went past it 2 years ago
They can never have too many images.  I often can't find anything like the photos I'm uploading and they still get rejected.  It's a big world and they would need billions of images to cover everything.  And fashion changes, people change, places change and the cameras we use improve each year.  They really should be encouraging us to keep producing new content.

Look at it from the agency's perspective. Its mainly a subscription based model where there really is no benefit to the agency to have 30 million images. For the buyer there can never be too much images to choose from. I would understand if its more of a pay per download model where each image is unique and has an actual download cost tied to it.

i tend to over react  ;)
sorry for the angry post but its really refreshing from time to time and the anger is outside of me now so no more anger inside  ;D

coming in here and and talking about how unoriginal MS is the dumbest thing in the world. The name of the game in Micros is volume business where pennies add up. To appeal to mass consumer market, you make it as generic as possible to attract the different buyers in different markets. stop hating and get a clue about how to be successful in this business

I am sure that isnt directed to me but I feel a lot of anger inside of you  ;D whats the problem?

Just keep reading what i wrote and maybe you will undertand. but i doubt it

General Stock Discussion / Re: Bad July sales
« on: July 11, 2011, 12:30 »
i honestly think there is something fishy going over at istock regarding downloads. too many people talking about drastic reduction of dls with myself included to be just competition. I think they wrote some code to the best match to maximise profit which means more exposure to lower tiered exclusives in favor of the higher percentage ones. The independants were already screwed from the get go imo.

Last week was down maybe 15 percent due to "summer" and the July 4th holiday, but today looks normal for July so far, at least in terms of $s.

Sean, your exceptional, so i ignore your posts since we in different realms =)

All kidding aside, my successful vector files which avged 30-50 dls a month went down to 15-25 dl a month from sometime in august of 2010 and never recovered. Could be due to buyers leaving and the extra competition but my downloads are 15-25% down from last year which seems like a lot.

New Sites - General / Re: VectorStock Redesign
« on: July 10, 2011, 11:46 »
someone please hack this site. its ridiculous to sell vectors for that cheap unless your pretty new and doing it as a hobby or you really dont care how you make that extra buck and dont mind lowering perceived value of goods.
i have to admit, i havent checked out the site since 2 years ago. I was just blown away by the audacity of that site to really lower bar.

363
are all the other agencies prices as low as canstock? Being exclusive mostly vector artist, i dont really see what other agencies charge. I just noticed the prices of the files and they are so much cheaper than istocks. no wonder buyers are leaving. so much cheaper competition. i wish these agencies would raise prices.

just drop in a drop shadow behind the orange logo and we good to go

365

That orange logo is hard to look at on the blue background.

i like the light headed feeling it gives me after i stare at it. =)

^^ lagereek... where do you keep coming up with this nonsense?? Where have i said i have many vettas?
Your this istock cheerleader one day and all of a sudden  turn around and hate them and become the biggest SS cheerleader like your getting some endorsement money.

367
The people that stabbed you in the back, IMHO, are the schills still at IStockphoto who bend over to their Getty overlords.

i just feel bad for them working over there because they really have no say in the decision process. I wouldnt be proud to be a part of that company if i worked there and knowing how crappy this economy is, i wouldn't walk out of the job unless i had a solid backup plan. Im sure some people will leave and have left which is great for them but they sure as hell didnt leave without finding something better.

iStockPhoto.com / popular images to vetta or not to vetta.
« on: July 01, 2011, 12:08 »
Ive been seeing a lot of images with a lot of downloads go into the vetta collection. I am wondering if they are still successful as before. Thoses files have been in the istock library for awhile now and would have enough data history to figure out if getting put into vetta has paid off or not. I have no photos that can go into that collection but I just started to put some vectors on and im wondering if vettas worth it.

It gets more complicated with the new price filter.... decisions decisions...

iStockPhoto.com / Re: June sales
« on: July 01, 2011, 11:50 »

What does say a lot, it that my earnings from say SS, is going into a 5-figured amount, thanks to the IS mess around with independants.

Do you mean you did nearly 5 figures at SS in June, or is that YTD?

YTD ?  whats that, computer language?  I dont want to give away too much but lets put it this way. In my six years in Micro, I have never seen such a skyrocketting of sales at SS and DT, since almost the very date of IS, throwing independant files right at the back.
Its just too much of coincidence.
Yet! as an independant, Im doing pretty well at IS, might be down about 30% from earlier but still good.

As someone else pointed out, YTD is Year To Date.

I still don't understand what you're saying, aside from SS being up for you.  Still wondering what you meant by "my earnings from say SS, is going into a 5-figured amount."  It sounds like either your year-to-date earnings at SS are approaching $10,000 or that your monthly earnings at SS are approaching $10,000.  Is this what you meant?

stockmarketer, u shouldnt take what he says to be true. He likes to exaggerate his success. I remember another post he made quite recently claiming to make a lot of money on istock and got caught lying about it from another member here.

370
if SS went public, wouldnt the company cut contributors earnings more since its all about the companies annual revenue going up year by year? Going public means the companies decisions are based on their stock price and they have to answer to their shareholders. If it ever goes public, im betting it only gets worse for the contributor.

i love how everyones comment is so nice

While i like a lot of your shots, i think you can improve them by thinking about the composition more. Example is the red umbrella and the cathedral in your first subitted collage. While i love it visually, there is an issue i have with the light pole and the church not creating a good negative space. I think this is the key to improve your shots. Focus on the negative shapes.  The picture would be better if you lowered your vantage point and shot on your knees. That way the top of the light pole would in the sky and not inside the church...It would also help if the red umbrella person wasnt so close to the pole (if she moved more to the right) but this cant be helped if she isnt your model. The pool picture would be my favorite if you can clone out that distracting line in the floor.

Illustration - General / Re: Best selling VECTOR sites?
« on: June 26, 2011, 20:45 »

Clipart is a term that was coined in Word programs before the internet even became available to civilians and is well known and used by customers. Clipart is a term that even if you think is not being used to identify your images, it probably is. While an artist may not like the term, a lot of customers dont think of "clipart" any differently than they do "illustrations."

While you as the artist are thinking of creative terms, the customer is not. The customer is looking for "clipart" or "pics" when using search engines and may not understand how artists feel about the term.

Not to mention that this entire post got completely off topic...

Maybe i  think differently than you do but clipart has a cheap ring to it because the artwork i saw back in the days werent as good as illustrations. A company with money hires an artist to illustrate their idea or product. A company on the budget goes through a book full of thousands of generic cliparts. Times have changed and some amazing artists are producing stock imagery.

Its about who came to us first.

This seems a rather strange policy. You'd keep on an artist who's work is not as good as someone who comes to you later, purely on the grounds of the date they joined, rather than a judgement on quality. If I'm understanding that right, that seems rather an odd way of stocking a library.

i was going to respond because i clearly wasnt paying attention to what she wrote but you hit the nail right on the head. i just thought the name of the company itself was odd.

it's really not that difficult.  ;)

True. It's the pricing that is complicated not the slider.  ;D

Really... if you cant figure out one dot and four dots with the word prices on top, you lack some brain cells.
