I've been with Alamy a few months, and I recently had my first sale - a $40 RF sale, no less! I'm not accustomed to that much money for RF! On other sites, I'd have to rack up 100 sales or more to get that much money.

I would find it very useful as well.

I gave serious consideration to try getting accepted on IS as a photographer (I currently have video clips there), but after the latest round of "adjustments," I decided it might not be worthwhile. I see quite a few photographers bailing. I'm interested in getting opinions.

I recently had eight editorial photos rejected on Dreamstime but accepted on Cutcaster. The description of each contained a news-style synopsis of a failed theme park in Florida which was owned by the communist government of China.

I stopped uploading to BS in March of this year because of the irrational rejections and low performance.

I like Revostock because they treat contributors with consideration and respect, the site is well-designed and graphically pleasing, and the upload mechanism is very user-friendly and efficient. I look forward to the day when it can produce a decent amount of activity and sales, and I truly hope that day comes. They deserve it.

When I log on and click on the "Image Upload (FTP/PSM)" Link, it takes me to http://anbieter.panthermedia.net/, and since I don't speak German, I can't navigate the site to process images that were uploaded via FTP. User name: csproductions. Everything else appears to be functioning normally.

About a year ago, give or take, I posted a message in the IS forum that was mildly critical of how bulky and time-consuming the upload and keywording process is there (I only have video clips on that particular site). Shortly afterward, I received a message telling me that they will no longer accept submissions from me. Something about they didn't think my work was progressing / developing like they thought it should..., blah, blah, blah. The material that was already in my catalog is still available and continues to sell, and I still have access to my account. I thought about trying to get in as a still photographer, but subsequent events such as restructuring and commission reductions have led me to believe that it would be a waste of time. I find it rather amazing that a critical post in the forum would result in being banned from uploading. I recommend that current contributors avoid it, and post complaints here on MSG instead.

Seemingly overnight, my rejection rate at PM skyrocketed, and now when I click on the upload/ftp link, it takes me to a page in German, which prevents my processing material that I upload via FTP. Plus, it now takes weeks to get images inspected. Anybody else having the same experience?

I've had a Moneybookers account for a while now but I've never used it because it's not very functional. I find my PayPal account indispensable. For one thing, Moneybookers doesn't offer a Mastercard debit card, and I use my PayPal card very frequently. I also do a lot of online transactions with PayPal, both receiving funds and distributing funds, as well as making online purchases. Moneybookers has a long way to go.

I use Core FTP Lite because it's free and reliable. In the past, I've used Coffee Cup, Filezilla, and a couple of others, but they at one time or another began to upload duplicates, and I couldn't figure out why. Haven't had that problem with Core.

Rejections appear to be irrational, the upload system is very cumbersome, and I've got material still waiting to be inspected that was uploaded in November of last year. No sales on 172 items in my portfolio. Draw your own conclusion, of course, but I don't upload to the site any more.

I have a catalog of video clips on SS, but I have yet to be accepted as a photographer. My latest attempt (#6) with the initial ten included only shots that have been accepted on DT, FT, and others, about half of which have sold already. All ten were rejected with the same "focus" nonsense. (I see regular video sales at IS but I've decided not to try to get accepted as a photographer because it seems to be a sinking ship.)

I'll take a chance. I registered as a photographer, and began to upload the initial ten for approval. However, there being no way that I can see to review my uploads, I lost count. I don't know if I uploaded eight, ten, twelve... And I inadvertently associated the wrong model release with the wrong model on a couple of shots, but I don't see a way to correct that. Lastly, either there's a lot of keyword spamming going on or the search engine leaves much to be desired. I clicked on the popular search word "bra," and in addition to photos of women wearing a bra (and lots of photos of women who may or may not be wearing one), I got photos of flowers (lots of tulips), trees, several shots of a guy wearing a swimsuit, one shot of a gecko (no, he wasn't wearing a bra), shots of old Spanish architecture, coffee beans, and... well, you get the picture (pun intended).

My best-selling site for stock video has always been Pond5. Based on my experience, there are several sections of this footage that will work for stock, although I didn't look through all of the footage. In the beginning, there's probably too much camera shake. However, unless you plan to shoot and upload stock video on a continuing basis, you're likely to be disappointed with the results. At first, I was seeing several sales per month on Shutterstock, but I haven't had a sale in recent months. CanStockPhoto also sells stock video, and I've had a few sales there. I see regular sales with istock. You might also check out revostock.com.

I tend to shoot rather loosely (composition-wise) because it's my understanding that graphic artists like to have some copy space. Did that change?

I can't see myself allowing any raw photos to get out because I don't want anyone seeing a raw photo and mistaking it for the finished work that I produce.

"A series is any batch of photographs that, when uploaded to Dreamstime, will be rejected as too similar".
Bingo!!!

I joined CanStockPhoto on August 12, 2009, and I now have 748 files in my portfolio. To date, I've had file sales - two video clips and three photos. Certainly nothing to write home about, but I plan to stay with them because I see potential there. Also because uploading is so easy and fast (time is money) and because they seem to be photographer-friendly (low rejection rate). The only issue I have is that the last batch of video clips I submitted simply disappeared. They're not in the pending que, nor do they show up as rejected. They're just gone. If they show up, I'll submit more. Meanwhile, I'll upload more photos.

Smells like a scam to me. If I were to receive that message, I'd certainly approach it with a healthy skepticism. I'd call and ask for the name of the company, ask who the principals are, and do my homework by checking them out thoroughly. If they're legit, they'll understand. If they're scammers, they'll protest and threaten to stop the deal. I wouldn't ignore the request, but I'd proceed very cautiously.

I've had success with shooting against any background that will give me good separation, then isolating in Photoshop and placing the subject in a separate white layer...

I've been using PayPal for years without a single problem. I think most of the problems that occur with them actually come from the phishers who attempt to send email messages that look like they're official PP communications. I've never had a problem because I always recognize them, and I forward them to " [email protected]." PayPal responds promptly letting me know that it was indeed a phishing attempt, and that they're making every effort to track down the culprits and eliminate the site. If ever there is any doubt, you can simply log onto the site because any communication by email from PP will also be on the site in your account. If it's not there, that's a good indication that you've been targeted by phishers. Plus, PP seems to be the only system that provides a Mastercard debit card for free, which has proven to be very valuable and convenient to me. Hopefully, they'll be expanding into other areas not currently being served.

The new site looks great, but I can't follow my submission from a few weeks ago. Since I can't remember which photos I submitted, I can't upload any more because I might upload duplicates. Or am I missing something?
You can view the status of uploads and your upload history from your account page under Media Files --> Overview.
Yep. I was missing something. My older images are there, but only the ones that were approved. Several were rejected. Also missing is the recent submission referenced above.

I get totally confused on the site too..
but try this:
MyPanther Management Subscription Downloads
Yep, they were there. So how does it work if photos were purchased without a subscription? Or is that even possible?

I disagree with the SS inspector. I can imagine any number of uses. For example, I might take two copies, side-by-side, flip one vertically so that the graphic lines are flowing to the center, add a blur perhaps, and it would make an awesome background. Maybe you should do that and submit it.
