This isn't proven

I know that, and I even tend to agree with it.
But SVH didn't use this argument. This is why I said "if".

"If" it will be proven to be legal, etc..., then he should better embrace progress... etc.

"What's the problem with it?"

Basics of Economics: supply and demand, scarcity (what's abundant sells for less).
Something that can be created with a few clicks of a button can saturate the market really fast.

Automation will remove the humans from the production of the images.

The law of supply and demand is not a problem, it's an opportunity.  You can't fight progress for too long. You better embrace it.
It has been the case for thousands of years.

10 different, none accepted by all 3!

Why are you advocating for this AI stuff? As said before, I understand it, looking at your own portfolio (and hey, you place links under each comment you write). But it could be devastating to photographers once the technique is perfected. So, are you just looking for a quick buck here? Where is your moral? Nobody who comes here will benefit from this stuff if it is getting accepted.

If there are buyers for it, if the agencies are accepting it, and it's proven to be Ok from a legal point of view, what's the problem?

Microstockers already took jobs from dedicated newspaper photographers (and others), so why are you still here?

Hiding your head in the sand, will not prevent progress to be "devastating" for you. You better embrace it.

This is why you should be thankful to them for generously sharing their experience, instead of playing their cards close to chest (as I would do), while "others" have their mouths full of sand.  ;D

I got the confirmation from Alamy that now I am opted out of distribution and sales in China (... and Russia, of course).

This is how 2 cent sales via distributor ends up.

My fabolous share is 0,00!
I will opt out of distibutor sales whenever I get the chance.

Same here, see attached, most of them, ~1080p size sold in China on Sept 20th (I will ask them to restrict my sales in China, the same way they restricted sales in Russia)

Actually, to prevent rejections, a good tip is to ADD noise to your photos (Gaussian 0.7).
Some tools (e.g. DXO) are too good at cleaning all noise and SS doesn't like it.
Moreover, other small imperfections (e.g. banding) can be masked with a bit of extra noise.

Progress is not killing jobs.
It just moves them elsewhere, where scarce resources are utilized more efficiently.

Why all this negative criticism of Russia?  Don't you people know your history?  And don't you know what has been going on in Ukraine these past couple of years?  Do your research and don't believe anything you read in the press, and particularly the American press.

Yeah, "do your research"!  ::)

I see this feeling of superiority way too often, from people who think they know better, when in fact they don't realize how effective in shaping their beliefs is the troll farm from Sankt Petersburg!

at the same time tucker carlson on fox and MAGA followers in general are still supporting putin's atrocities

On Aug. 29 Tucker Carlson of Fox News attacked President Bidens policy on Ukraine, asserting among other things: By any actual reality-based measure, Vladimir Putin is not losing the war in Ukraine. He is winning the war in Ukraine. Carlson went on, by the way, to assert that Biden is supporting Ukraine only because he wants to destroy the West.

https://www.nytimes.com/2022/09/12/opinion/ukraine-deflates-maga-macho-myths.html

Not to mention the confidence QAnon-ers display, when they assert their beyond-any-doubt deep "knowledge", about Jewish lasers and what not.

Same breed.

So what you consider best agency? the one which pays better right?

Obviously.
And like it or not, SS is leading the pack by a sizeable margin.

BUT Shutterstock has the best contributor support of any agency.... Shutterstock is the greatest stock agency in existence. Absolutely!

You have no idea how much i laughed. Thank you for your post. ;D
Congratulations i think you're in 0,00001% that probably thinks that.

Please, please, please....
Don't forget to get a big tattoo with SSTK logo and btw upload-upload-uplload it to your portfolio too.
If you're right you probably sell thousands!!! Absolutely! ehehhe :D

You can laugh as much as you can (laughing is good for your mental health ;))
But even if don't know much about their support, even if I don't like their 10c "earnings" and their January reset, despite all that, at the end of the day, SS is still the best agency there is, by some margin.
To back up my statement, this is the distribution of my revenue for the past month:

Several people have also gotten this offer. DON'T DO IT!

Their offer is beyond pathetic (single figure, often less than a standard license sale). They have a big market share will exploit it to the max. Last time they got hold of some images (that time by just helping themselves) sales for the ones they appropriated completely dried up.

Compare it to Adobe's $5 for 1 year offer. Getty also offered it in the worst way possible. Not letting you opt out any of the images and a rude as heck "take it or leave it" attitude. They will never budge to a reasonable price, like $50+ per image.

Actually, depending on their long-term performance $50 might not be sufficient.
I just did the math for my port: since inception (~9 years), my average revenue per photo is ~$150. This is important in case your photos may be offered for free.

If Getty will continue to sell them as usual, then what matters is your Getty-only all-time revenue per photo (or over a shelf-life duration you are ok with).  Mine is ~$25/photo over ~ 9 years.

People like you who are totally in love with your self and feed on posting crap about other people are just too common on every forum.
First of all, since you posted the link (Thank you) to my forum I think you are obligated to also post your link, just so I can admire your port and maybe even comment on it.

It's a privilege to be a part of the Russian economy! Be proud of it!  ;D

I just had another sale in fascist Russia. That's a shame!  >:(
That money went directly to an Ukrainian charity.

Slava Ukraini!

So some company bought your photo of which you don't know their stance and you are mad?

Then you shout that all the money goes to Ukraine and you are glad.

Very confusing.

Either you stop with the agency that sells your photos to Russia (if you so please) or don't complain about it.

This way you are helping Russia getting their photos and the company that sells them and you get nothing :)

Win-win for the other parties except for you. Or are you able to check that really all proceeds go to Ukraine and not the company that sells the photo. All you know is that you are not getting paid for your photo, right?

I wish SS would stop doing business with a fascist regime.
Short of that, I don't want to benefit from their blood money and I'm donating it to the victims.

It's a moral issue.

What is so difficult for you to comprehend?

I think it should at least be an optout for selling images to russia when shutterstock dont seem to have any problens selling.

Or maybe all images bought in russia going directly to aid Ukraine.

They are getting money out of Russia, not a bad thing for Ukraine.. As long as they don't sell Russian's imagery.

Those Russian sales are likely to be for advertising and other business related uses, maybe even for propaganda.

Therefore we are forced to become part of the Russian economy, the fuel of its war machine.  >:(

No money and weapon to Russia and UA and the war will end soon.
Otherwise it will take years and force an economic crisis in EU

Quote taken straight from Putin's propaganda.  ::)

If shitterstock were around during WW2 they'd have been selling to Joseph Goebbels

as did many US companies in the 1930s and WWII

Coca-Cola Company.
Coca-Cola played both American and German sides during World War II, but in 1941, the German side ran out of sugary syrup to make the soft drink. So Coca-Colas German division invented Fanta to continue to sell Coca-Cola brands in the Germany without breaking any restrictions or an embargo.

Kodak.
The German branch of Kodak used Jewish slave labor from concentration camps but continued to produce film stock for the Axis Powers during the War.

Chase Bank.
Chase Bank was one of many around the world that continued to work with Nazi during World War II. They also froze the assets of many European Jewish customers as a common practice to cooperate with the Third Reich.

Ford.
Believe it or not, Henry Ford was an anti-Semite and was awarded a Nazi medal, designed for distinguished foreigners in 1938. Ford continued to sell and make cars with Russian slave labor for American and Germans during World War II.

IBM.

General Electric.
GE partnered with German manufacturing firm Krupp to help build Hitlers army and used Jewish slave labor to build gas chambers during World War II and the Holocaust. The U.S. Government fined GE for working with the *, but the American company continued to profit off of the War. It was estimated that GE made $1.5 million in 1936 alone from working with Krupp and the *.

Random House.
Bertelsmann A.G. is a Random Houses parent company and they continued to publish Nazi propaganda and Adolf Hitlers writings during World War II.

Standard Oil.
The oil company was one of the very few that could produce tetraethyl lead gas to fuel the German military, so they were another American company that played both sides during the War.

https://www.phactual.com/8-american-companies-that-worked-with-the-*-during-world-war-ii/
The same goes for swiss banks, for example.

But this is the past. What matters is that today, Shutterstock has chosen to help Putin fuel his war machine (giving a hand to the destruction of Ukraine and the killing of innocent civilians, children inclusive) by doing business with his fascist regime.

I too had a sale in Moscow, last week.

Alamy gave us the option to opt out of sales in Russia.
Dreamstime and Depositphotos are openly supporting Ukraine.
If Shutterstock chose to turn a blind eye to Putin's attrocities, they should at least give us the option to opt out of this pact with the devil.

Slava Ukraini!

They didn't say "illustrations only" in the email sent out Thursday, but looking at what was eligible in my account, that's what it appears they're including in this round.

It's not just illustrations.
I have no illustrations in my port, but I have one photo requested this round.

372
I had occasional high price sales yesterday too.  No, I'm not bragging.  2 on demand photo sales that's nearly 30x most photo sales.

4 nice photo sales that just kicked-in today, making those 10c subs look like background noise.

That's nice!!  What the size of your portfolio?  I have about 7,000 photos and videos are turned off.

1500+ photos and 300+ videos

I had another "occasional" big sale, yesterday.

I must admit that this month, the "occasional" big sales were more frequent than just "occasional".
August is now the best month of the year, for me.

It should be zero, so you will only have to pay taxes in Morocco, since the USA and Morocco have a double taxation avoidance treaty.

I don't think it should be zero .. in other platforms like Shutterstock or creative market I pay 10% tax

My bad, I didn't read the whole text properly.

The rate of tax imposed by a Contracting State on royalties derived from sources within that Contracting State by a resident of the other Contracting State shall not exceed ten percent

https://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-trty/morocco.pdf

You should only pay the difference between Moroccan tax and 10% in Morocco.
