If he sells, I am uploading pics of me as well. But I want proof that an ugly photographer can sell pics of himself before they laugh at me!

Judge must have been on drugs.
She wanted $58k for her images which I think was over the top. And then he calculated an actual major selling point between the images and the revenue of $12million. Hey I am for the photographer, but the result is a sham. The actual profit from the houses sold was probably about $1.2 million. Marketing and advertising could lay a claim to about 7% of that. AND that is only if she could prove that is was the images and only the images that created the sale. BUT for me the worst thing is this mob went out of business. So now around 70 poor suckers are out of work. Most of them probably on minimum wages or just getting by. The judge really failed in his public interest and justice obligations here. The photographer should be paid. But not some ridiculous amount of money that causes grief to innocent third parties. FOR THE RECORD. There isn't a great deal of money in building houses, regardless of where you live. You are lucky to make on average 3% net. 379

Lighting / Do you use a light meter? Which type?« on: June 25, 2008, 15:32 »
I have been advised by a few good photographers to buy a light meter before I invest in studio lighting.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me about theirs, and the uses they have for it. 381

Bought a Canon 50mm f1.8II. At $84.95 the freight was half as much again.
Cannot believe how sharp this lens is. And I am expecting some great portraits. Put about 80 shots through it last night. Amazing. Best value for money Canon offers. 382

I would urge you to consider what you believe is the right or wrong thing to do.
BUT. Virtually every micro site has its own pricing structure. If someone buys your image at DT, and then finds out they could have bought it cheaper at SS, would that concern you? Personally, I would only send images to Alamy I do not have elsewhere. But I might change my mind one day as well. LOL> 384
General Stock Discussion / Re: Are we slave workers for microstock industry?« on: June 20, 2008, 23:37 »
a white van drove past my house 3 years ago and I took a shot of it. Took me 17 minutes to create a clipping path around it and post it on 4 sites. Since then that image has sold around 1000 times.
Yeah sure some of the stuff takes a while to set up. But if it sells, it will probably continue to sell for 10 years. At a lousy $10 a year per image that is $100. I spent 4 hours driving to a remote place to do a front cover for a magazine and got $400. Sounds pretty good return to me. 385

You know have you ever thought of how other artists get their money?
You can spend millions on creating a music album, but you are only paid 8 to 10 cents each time a song is played on radio. the least I have got is 25cents 386

I let it go a year since my last rejection, and sent once again, my top 5 selling images ... and then I got the standard rejection notice.
Since I started applying, I think they have seen a pretty good representation of what I am selling, and still no good. And yet a search of their selling images seems to mirror other sites. 398

SnapVillage.com / Re: NEWS - Wondering What Content Buyers Want?« on: June 17, 2008, 18:15 »
that is a fantastic bit of market research.
Yes I believe this is the reason for the massive increase in rejections this year. I think the buyers and agencies are looking for something new and fresh. Personally I believe we are on the verge of something big here. The Ron Chapple's etc have huge but outdated portfolios. This is a chance for those of us who are smaller and closer to the real action of day to day business to get really creative and be the new force in micro. We see that from the images being requested there is a huge need for senior citizens being active in their lives. We also see the need for better medical images. Let's look at the way medicine is now being practiced. For instance ambultory care is big, nursing is the new growth area since there is a worldwide shortage of doctors. Doctors will soon be used only for acute medical situations. The new focus is on Nurse Practicioners. Also, what are the issues facing medicine. For aged care it is the baby boomer generation facing "consumption" diseases such as lung cancer, diabetes, and obesity related illnesses. Also, these senior citizens are unlike the generation before. 55 - 70 years of age is no longer old. Most of these people are active and their post-work lives are full of entertainment, travel, etc. 400
