Yes, they're manipulating SODs. I used to get so may that some days they were almost overtaking my sub sales. Then on March 20 they screeched to a halt. Now I'm lucky to get a few each week. The change was very sudden and dramatic. I don't know if they stopped pushing them to buyers or shifted an algorithm, but they definitely did something.

377
Where's my check? Your boss promised to pay me last year. You need my address?

378
No they shouldn't. Freepik shouldn't be given any oxygen.

Setting up a section gives the impression they are a legitimate site. They aren't, they are shady AF.

They set up scraping vector content from warez sites giving away our stolen goods, e.g. allfreedownloads, they were very open about it too. If I remember correctly they even had the gall to demand attribution to freepik if you didn't have a subscription. This is for content which by that time had been stolen twice over.

When it bit them on the a** they took all the cash they made from that to employ people to create very similar copies of our best sellers on the stock sites.

If anyone uploads work to them my guess is that they will see what gets the downloads and just get one of their in house employees to create a copy. With complete access to the stats it's even easier than going through searches on legit sites to find out what sells.

Thanks for you response. impressive truth.
I am totally agree with every word you said.
I tell you one think.
this site could be what you say and as everybody know are stealing and making money for themselves not correct way etc. but there is one thing, my friend has an account on mostly all stock sites and freepik also, and making about twice bigger on freepik than all other sites together. So, yes its stealing, but make good profit for contributors.
Would you accept that your hard work have just been rewarded?
seriously,
you work and make money - we all work for money.
Maybe, for those who do not care about stealing their works it is no problem unless they making money from it?
what do you think?

what other people think?

please share thoughts.

thanks

Here's a thought...how about they pay me for all the downloads my work got on their site for years. If they pay twice as much as everyone else combined, we're talking about hundreds of thousands of dollars. Have them get in touch with me and I'll tell them where to send the check.

Today I got a Facebook message from some @sshat (oops, I mean "Growth Hacker") from Freepik asking for free work for their disgusting free site. Just a reminder that they stole vectors from me and others and gave them away on their site for years until I caught them. Apparently they now have recruiters getting in touch with people trying to drum up more free work. Keep an eye out.

I thought you were kidding.  I have more than 10k files and make nowhere near that.  Nowhere.

Thats impressive.
Can you share your portfoolio? Very interesting to have a look.
And what sites do you use? of course there are not only one of them.

regards

No, sorry.  I'm very secretive.  You'll never know who I am.

This post made my day.

381
Lol. I remember a few years ago doing the math and thinking if I had x number of files online I'd be making $XXX,XXX per year. I could retire in my 50's and make more and more money every year and eventually be raking in millions annually in my 70's with the little illustrations I did at home.

We all found out the hard way that it doesn't work that way.

382
you said: " I am aiming for 10000 images this year. What does that in your kind of quality-uploads give you?"

I spent about 40 days filming 40 actors, with 700 or some images per actor, 3 hours per person, and earn about $300 monthly after submitting more than half of the work.

I did the same on video with 7 people, about 100 videos per 3 hour session, and also make $300 monthly from that group.

I have filmed about 300 days, and I would say 99% of the work turned a profit. typical profit for 1 day of work can be from $500 to $1,000 over many years, however I am relatively new to stock selling so I do not have many years worth of sales.

my advice is that you definitely are going to make money but there is a lot of waiting time especially for video sales.

Why are you making money from them? Don't you just let everyone use them for free, as "fair use?" Since there's no such thing as copyright, after all.

And everyone got more money than they did. Sad.

So depressing.

385
big misunderstanding... after seven years in the Microstock business... not according to the age

No misunderstanding. Simple math.

386
So if someone started in microstock at age 18, when they reached age 25 "Josephine" would consider them old and backward-looking. Lol.

387
I'd just like to say how nice it is that Adobe has Mat still coming here and interacting with us in a very helpful way.

Well, maybe the reason I stopped getting SODs is because they were rejiggering the pricing structure? Today I got one for 39 cents...one whole penny more than a sub. :(

389
I'm still seeing popular and new.

Most of my SODs were smaller, some as low as 50. Very few large ones. But they ALL dried up on March 20. The drop was really startling. Up until then my subs sales had been gradually shifting more and more to small SODs. All you have to do is buy an image pack...they're not all enterprise sales.

My dls for the first five days of the month are actually up 50% on March, but it's almost all small stuff.
It looks as if I may have benefitted from some search order change around the 25th of last  month.

I think they pushed through some algorithm change on March 19th. On the 20th my SODs suddenly dried up completely, and I've had almost none since. ODDs also had a huge drop. My popular stuff also stopped selling. And old, old images are selling here and there...some I completely forgot I ever drew.

Sales just keep on dropping. I see on the customer website they're trying to convince people it makes sense to license images for legal protection rather than downloading from "those free sites." That says a lot...clearly sales are being negatively affected by all the stolen work and free sites out there. And from the tremendous amount of competition, now that they accept everyone and everything.

393
For a company the size of Nestle? Tens of thousands of dollars. But they want you guys to do it for 200 bucks.

394
I'm scared to google those to find out what they are.

I made that mistake. I didn't see the images, but the descriptions were bad enough.

395
In the U.S., "talent" refers to actors and models. That's why we have "talent agencies"...they represent actors and models.

396
Thanks for the heads up. :)

397
I'm trying to say though - unless the site to the end user explicitly states "preview images may not be used on websites" (which I have not seen from the license agreements I've reviewed), there's not really any enforceability. And even if that was written - it doesn't necessarily mean that it is enforceable, simply because there is the understanding that a preview is an 'evaluation' (incentive to get someone to purchase the full version). As for DMCA notices, it is supposed to apply to full copyrighted content.

It's like say having a bag of cookies for sale in costco, and getting mad at costco because they are giving out free samples to 'non-paying' customers. Sure, some will never have an intention of buying that brand of cookies whatsoever. But others, they think, mm these are good cookies, and then buy them, maybe even buy a few and tell some friends.

I guess to each his own. If you want to get upset because someone is using watermarked content on their site, then go ahead and get upset and chase after every single person doing that. I feel time would be better spent creating new content and looking for paying customers, but - it's your choice.

Now that you've given your permission to use your watermarked images, tell us who you are so we can use them.

398
lol, you & shema must be democrats. someone disagrees with you and you resort to silly namecalling, instead of actually thinking about what is being said and addressing that.

Re: advertising
It actually *is* free advertising - because if that company actually does get views/eyeballs - people will know to go to shutterstock
to purchase the image without the watermark. And to objowl - if you are sincere and it's not just a snide remark - and you could
actually get a significant people viewing my portfolio - I would be happy to send you my portfolio with watermarked images.
The majority of people don't like watermarked images, and some would actually purchase, which would make me very happy.

It was a snide remark, not just a snide remark, but an heartfelt snide remark.  I usually have a sneaking admiration for people who look at the world upside down, but you are just being silly.

Lol, you just ignored the info I posted from Shutterstock.

"You should read the license agreements you agree to when you sign up for stock image sites. It doesn't sound like you have."

"What If I See a Watermarked Version of My Image on a Website?

Is your content hosted by an online service provider?

Online Service Providers

A service provider is a website, internet host or service that publishes or transmits content uploaded by users and/or customers. The Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA) protects service providers from becoming liable for the independent acts of their users. In order for service providers to benefit from this immunity, they need to promptly take down content after receiving notice of a claimed infringement.

Some examples of service providers include social media sites such as
Facebook.com, Twitter.com and Pinterest.com. Other examples include sites
where content may be uploaded, such as YouTube.com, or file sharing sites
such as rapidgator.net.  Some online marketplaces are also considered to be
service providers; for example, eBay.com, Amazon.com, and Etsy.com.
If a user has posted your watermarked content to a service provider, sending a takedown notice to that service provider should result in prompt removal of the image.

However, be aware that you must be sure that the use is unlicensed before sending a takedown notice, and you must comply with the requirements of sending a proper
takedown notice."

Oh jeez. A copyright "expert" who feels it's OK to steal people's images but for some reason stays anonymous.
