Yet it is still has about 3x as much traffic as any other microstock site. 378
iStockPhoto.com / Re: Subscriptions at IStock...« on: April 03, 2008, 21:23 »
Well, at least they are doing it the right way, by making it so higher resolution downloads get more commission. The question remains though, what will that commission be? Until that gets answered, criticizing or praising this move is premature.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: why do YOU buy at istock???« on: April 01, 2008, 08:31 »
Even though I am a submitter, I have purchased files from iStock. Most of what I have bought has been flash files for my website since I know nothing about flash. No other of the big stock sites offer that. Plus it is real easy to buy credits with your account balance.

General Stock Discussion / Re: March 2008 Earnings breakdown« on: April 01, 2008, 00:36 »
Overall down 22.8% mostly because I didn't upload anything new all month. But some sites faired better than others.
1. SS: 32% 2. DT: 20% - BME 3. IS: 14% 4. FT: 13% 5. StockXpert: 10% - HUGE drop 6. BigStock: 6% - BME by .50c 7. OTHER: 2% (Crestock, Canstockphoto, Featurepics, & Snapvillage) 382

Sales down a lot over last month. But I have a small portfolio there so just ebb and flow I would imagine.

SnapVillage.com / Re: Need Help -- Sending CD Of Images To Snap Village« on: March 16, 2008, 22:34 »
I sent them a CD about a week ago. I just included my Snapvillage name written on the CD. They emailed me a few days after I sent it asking what I wanted the price to be and if I wanted to allow subscriptions. So I responded to their questions and said that all of the images do have IPTC keywords and descriptions if they want to use them. They uploaded all the images shortly after and they are all pending right now.

Encouraging news. They just uploaded all of the images I sent them on a CD. That was easy enough.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Uploading Non-Vector Illustrations on IS (frirendly whining post)« on: March 07, 2008, 06:58 »
Yes I have the same problem. I have managed to get a few accepted through scout reports though. And go figure those ones that were originally rejected for not being stock worthy are by far my best sellers on IS.

Submit the EPS as one file and the JPG as another file? Like what you have to do for Shutterstock if you want both.

StockXpert.com / Re: If sxc.hu were to close...« on: March 03, 2008, 16:48 »For our sake, I hope SXC never closes. There are a lot of really good artists over there, who create images that could easily be accepted and sell well at StockXpert. Imagine SXC closes and a good chunk of the people who are SXC-only artists come over to StockXpert. Stats from sxc.hu: 351948 photos online 235 added today 1440 pending I doubt that would even make a dent in competition at StockXpert. Certainly a large portion of those that submit to sxc are already on StockXpert anyway. 391
StockXpert.com / Re: Non-Vector Price Adjustment« on: March 03, 2008, 14:21 »
Couldn't be any happier with StockXpert. Last review time was under 24 hours, and the sales are coming in at a nice clip.

StockXpert.com / If sxc.hu were to close...« on: March 03, 2008, 14:17 »
In case you don't already know what StockXpert.hu is.. it is basically like stockxpert except all of the images are free. They have twice the traffic that stockxpert has and 351,000 images online.
Now imagine if sxc.hu were to close/merge with StockXpert. Having double the traffic that stockxpert already has, this would certainly mean a huge increase in sales even if only a small fraction of the traffic signed up. What is the reason for keeping sxc.hu even open? Just food for thought. 393

General - Top Sites / Re: February 2008 earnings breakdown« on: March 01, 2008, 09:03 »
SS - 25% (334 images)
StockXpert - 20% (255 images) BME IS - 20% (42 images) BME DT - 13% (247 images) BME FT - 12% (310 images) BME Other - 6% (includes Canstockphoto, Crestock, Featurepics, Snapvillage, and Zymmetrical) BigStock - 5% (222 images) --- Earnings up 12.2% from January, making February my new BME overall. Amazing how 42 images at Istock made me almost as much as 255 images on StockXpert and beat all others except Shutterstock. It was a horrible month at Shutterstock for me, I didn't upload anything new so the sales were down down down. All other sites did very good for not uploading anything new. Very pleased overall. 395
StockXpert.com / Re: StockXpert Subscription Sales - Whats your experience?« on: February 29, 2008, 16:54 »
Earnings have gone up consistently the past 4 months, so no complaints from me.
About 1/3 of my sales are subscription this month. Average $ per download is still above 1$. 396

Suppose you just have to get a lucky referral for Shutterstock. I have two that have made me $160. One was accepted about 2 months ago and the other was accepted about 8 months ago. Compared to only a couple bucks from Dreamstime and Fotolia. 398

I believe Account balance is up to the second accurate while total earnings updates every 24 hours (as does the # of downloads.) You likely have gotten another download to make up the difference. Check your royalties out here http://www.istockphoto.com/my_uploads.php

Crestock.com / Re: What is your acceptance rate at Crestock ?« on: February 19, 2008, 22:57 »I will never understand why people will work so hard for a 20% commission, especially from a site that has such low sales. Uploading to Crestock is really no work at all. If you use IPTC you really don't have to do anything other than upload and press select all > submit. By far the easiest site to submit to in my opinion. Well worth it, despite the relatively low sales. (Still better than LO, CanStockPhoto, FP, and SV for me) I haven't had a problem with their reviewing, all seems fair to me so far. Other sites reject a lot more of mine than they do. |
