I am feeling so nervous about going IS exclusive. So many technical problems makes me think that having all my eggs in one single basket is very very very risky...
I'll be finally free from DT in just a few weeks and ready to go... This is giving me a headache!!!
I don't think that technical problems are what makes it very very very risk, though.
Good luck with it.

I think that all eggs is one basket is always risky. I'm still independent, for many reasons, and the technical problems at IS are just a small part. There are so many more major reasons for not going exclusive there. For me, the decision to remain independent is right for me. Your mileage may vary. But if you go exclusive and realize is just isn't working for you, you can always bail. So you've wasted a little time by having to re-upload stuff. At least you had the courage to give it a try. Best case scenario, everything works out ok and you make a lot more money.
Good luck whatever you decide.
Thank you for the good wishes. Yes, I agree. It's not just the technical problems what makes it risky to put all eggs in one single basket... Yet, going IS exclusive seems the right thing for me at this time. Only time will tell...

You can delete 30% of your images from this site
Delete the most recent first and work your way back
It's only 30% of your images uploaded in the last 6 months! It's NOT 30% of your total portfolio.

I can imagine many uses for this photo. For instance, the kind of ads: "Begin your own little business". The image grabs the attention, and has humor in it; that's valued in publicity.
That's a good idea. Yes, there are many uses for this photo. ... Not all microstock content gets used for ads.
I completely agree. This image would look great on a wall.

... I wouldn't put that stuff on micro.
At least that's much better than displaying her images on Model Mayhem or Photodom where people can steal her rather large samples. I wonder why she has not removed her images from those sites yet... She creates beautiful work.

No surprise! We already knew Getty's intentions to send IS clients to Thinkstock. Well, Thinkstock supporters must be happy now... They are about to have a few more subscription sales a month I guess most thinkstock supporters must be either very low Istock sellers who think they have nothing to lose or very greedy people who can't help leaving money on the table and can't see the damage they are causing to themselves. The other group would be naive newbies. This is sad.

Status symbol? I am amazed how many "soccer moms" have better cameras than me when I there working. LOL, they never have better lenses though
My rich-ish friend has a DLSR and man she abuses that thing. Always shattering a lens or a filtre. I gave her one of those sticky dot things that you stick on the lens cap that has an elastic to attach it the lens because at least once a month she was asking me to pick her up a lens cap next time I was collecting my prints. She finally bought a new P&S and is a lot happier using it for the most part!
The reason that soccer mums and dads have DSLRs is that its next to impossible to shoot soccer or other kids sports with a point and shoot, no matter how good the point and shoot is. They don't focus fast enough. Or low light available light shots like kids concerts. I bought my DSLR and 70-200L to shoot swimming carnivals in outdoor pools and school sports days, and the 50mm and 85 1.8 to shoot dance. Once I had the gear then I started shooting for stock.
I still think it's a status symbol. Most soccer mums & dads just want to be seen with their expensive gear. They just point and shoot and whatever the result is, they think it's a piece of art!

... For all the contributors in the imaging industry, we need this site to FAIL MISERABLY. It is GETTY trying to get away with their ridiculous 20% payouts. The more you make on this site, the more you eventually lose because you made it the status quo. We need to stop this "Yes sir, may i have another" mentality.
Ditto! Wish every stock photographer could understand it.

...It is pretty shocking to me how few active contributors (people who have more than ~50 uploads total) there are considering they sold something over million DSLRs last year (could be more, can't remember exact numbers). I am pretty glad that is the case, though:)
I wonder why some non-photographer people buy DSLRs cameras. They really think all they have to do is pressing the shutter button and the camera will do the rest Having a DSLR camera doesn't make someone a photographer! So, we only have more people taking snap shots with DSRLs cameras.

I think someone in this thread asked for a definition of "newbie".
Here are some characteristic to recognize a "newbie":
1. They are microstock cheerleaders telling everyone how great this business is. 2. They still earn $0.25 at Shutterstock 3. They support Thinkstock. And of course, they think $0.25 is ok! 4. They do not yet qualify to be IS exclusive. Even though it's only 250 images required. 5. They celebrate every single sale they make. 6. They make statistics with small numbers.
What else? Mmm... Ah!
7. They get angry when they read something they don't like.

I guess I am almost a no-newbie..! Left on 40$ on SS!
Then will you start talking with me properly??..
$40 to go. Good for you. I guess you are preparing a press release and a big party. Though I don't think you will invite me.

the funny thing about this topic, is that Yuri just stated a "thing" at Ellen's blog, it is true ok, but why all this fuss about his work?.. You are all saying this and that, just talking right?.. looks like a gossip magazine...
are you close friends of him? do you know him? ok some might know, but don't know that much to talk about himself, he isn't here to defend all the things said in this topic.. it is becoming ridiculous!.. if he spends too much or less his its own business, if his style is like a "factory" producing a product etc...! come on..
YEAH, I know I am nobody and I don't know crap about stock and so on, but please give a break to Yuri! (come on bully guys, show your claws and chat around )
What makes you think Yuri isn't here? He knows this forum. This forum is not a gossip magazine. If you don't like it, why do you keep coming?

Generally speaking, it's only the amateurs/part-timers who have the "encourage and increase competition" mindset. Trust me, luissantos84 and deyu16, your attitude will change once or if your earnings increase enough to become your sole source of income - you'll be playing your cards much closer to your chest when that happens.
Ditto!

.for example let's say you got an apple for $1 and you sell it for $10(because you are the only one selling there no competition) so you make 10 times profit...ok all good but when the other guy decides to open his own store the picture has change...Now you have competition and you can't do what you like because you will go out of business! So you have 2 options 1)continue living in the box with no competition and go bankrupted OR struggle to have the freshest apples and with a good price....the I guarante you that the demand will be much bigger......Competition is good either way you look at it
Are you sure you went to business school? I'll stick with number 1 (where I wouldn't go "bankrupted" as the only seller).
ROFL Seriously deyu16, you should ask for a refund from your business school. Sorry!

I started this post so that I can get an idea about microstock and encourage people to see the potential of this business!!!!!
So, you want us to help you bring even more competitors? Wouldn't it be better to leave that task to the microstock agencies, and we as photographers do our job: Make photos! Aren't there enough microstock cheerleaders with blogs trying to refer as many new "photographers" as they can?

I had that problem with an image of a young girl playing with a home made rag doll.
Sometimes this is so ridiculous. But, what can we do?
423
« on: February 27, 2010, 16:48 »
And it will be worst everyday...
I don't want to be rude either, but... all those people who behave like microstock cheerleaders and are trying to refer as many new "photographers" as they can, they don't realize the damage they are doing.
The less competitors we have, the more images we'll sell. It couldn't be easier to understand! It's business.
The only winners with the microstock cheerleaders are the microstock agencies, not the photographers!

Yes, both.
For sure the Nike logo will not be accepted.
It's better to always provide models with generic clothes, shoes, etc. Removing logos and brands is some times a PITA.

Transfer to paypal and from paypal to virtual account. Then withdraw with your card. But that's only for US residents, it seems?
No, it's not only for US residents.
