General Stock Discussion / Re: 3D renders
« on: January 25, 2013, 17:01 »
The work I've been doing since last July have all been 3d renders.  And agree with what the others have said.  They sell okay for me on SS and the others but not as much as vectors do but they do sell.

402
Nope not possible.  Exporting you'll get a png file when you save it.  It's just a straight raster file.  Took me a long time to not think that rasters weren't as good as vectors.  They sell though just not as much as vectors do.  I'm content with doing 3d for right now and build up that part of my portfolio.  I'm sure I'll go back to vectors eventually just not right now.  It kind of gives you a little more creative license with the image you can use things that you can't with vectors like blurs and whatnot.

Also you can make things in Illustrator and import them into blender.  I can draw better in Illustrator.  I can take those outline drawings (SVG files) and bring them into blender and do nearly anything I want to do with them in there.

Let me know how you get on with it and don't be afraid to ask questions.

New Sites - General / Re: Crystalgraphics who are they?
« on: January 11, 2013, 03:11 »
I clicked on the first one in that link and it has a Big Stock watermark on it.  My guess is that they're a parter site of Big Stock.

Learning Blender isn't too bad.  Some really good sites to learn from and you can't argue with the price of it.  Learning the interface and finding where everything is will be a bit of a pain.  I've been using it for about 2 years now and didn't start getting serious with it until about last July.  There's a site called cgcookie that has a section for blender that you can sort out the tutorials for beginners.

Here's a series to get you started http://cgcookie.com/blender/category/getting-started/  That series is for Blender 2.5 but the interface is the same in version 2.6.

If you get stuck don't be afraid to ask questions.  I've only gotten the rough edges rejection once on one of my 3d images when I first started to use it for stock.  Learning curve is high but take it in bits and pieces and you'll get the hang of it in no time.

*edit to add*

Just to let you know I don't know everything but still learning.  It's a constant learning process especially when they add new features and stuff to it.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Are DT sales being reported?
« on: December 29, 2012, 18:26 »
I haven't had a sale there since th 19th.  So it's been 10 days and of course I'm close to payout too so it figures :/

Alamy.com / Re: Password verification?
« on: December 10, 2012, 02:33 »
In the url address area of my browser it looks like it's pointing to the shopping cart page.  Probably a glitch.  I'm going to email support on it.

*edit*

It's not in the address bar it's in the breadcrumb area and I just emailed them.  Hopefully they'll get this sorted out.

Alamy.com / Password verification?
« on: December 10, 2012, 01:43 »
Started this evening that when I go to check my earnings that it's asking me to verify my password.  It also does it on the balance of account area.

Anyone else seeing this?

Pond5 / Re: Image sales at Pond 5
« on: December 08, 2012, 15:46 »
I've been there since 2011 and took me over a year to sell my first footage file (my footage port isn't that big yet need to work on that).

I'll probably start uploading images there after the first of the year.  They're still new at it as it being on their site so I agree some time is in order.

Pond5 / Image sales at Pond 5
« on: December 08, 2012, 13:07 »
Since they started accepting photos and illustrations are anyone seeing sales of images other than from the referral at 123rf?  I haven't uploaded my entire image port there yet and am hoping that there are image sales through P5.

Thanks :)

What program are you using for your Illustrations?

This took me awhile to figure out.  Regardless of artboard dimension you go and export for web and devices.  In the dialog box I set the dimensions to just under 25 mp and check the clip to artboard box.  I save it once it's done processing and have had no upload problems there doing it that way.

Bigstock.com / Re: Bigstock changed their site layout
« on: November 16, 2012, 18:58 »
Hey Boris.  When I click on the amount I've earned in the header and the page comes up something's really wrong with the layout.  The footer shows up in the middle of the page instead of at the bottom in IE9.  Same thing happens in Firefox 16.0.2.

Just in case you weren't aware.

413
Actually I would like to do it myself.  I'm not at all familiar with asp code.  I would love to have ktools but can't afford it at this time.

I'm going to work on my craft store front first and that I can build on my site relatively easy only thing I would need to work out on that is inventory control that will use the database.  After that I'll dive into the digital realm.

I'm learning a lot from ya'all :)

414
I don't think I'm going to go ahead an do this.  Tangible goods are easier to deal with than digital.

My guess as to making a unique download link would have to be something that's database driven with some mysql code to where it changes per user per download.  I'm not a coder and I've only used php and mysql a few years ago and wrote my own stuff but nothing like this.  Some kind of automatic page redirect or the generated link for the end user to click on seems viable but as far as writing code goes I'm not smart enough to do it.

415
Thanks for all the information.  I know I do not have all the space to upload my entire port so I would have to figure out which images I would start out with first of if I could actually do it at all.  It seems harder to deal with than say physical goods.   I'll probably take some more time to think about it.

Thanks again.

I just downloaded a 64 page pdf file from PayPal about integration into a site.  Not sure if this is what I need or not but I will be going through it to make sure.

417
It's 15 minutes of work a week. Been doing it since 2009. I'm with 9 agencies and dls and $ are the only data I fill in on 1 row and Excel calculates all the rest to different tabs. Ofcourse I'm the kind of person who likes to play around with Excel and keep track of things. Excel can't drive me insane, creating pictures and photoshopping all day will! :)

Touch  ;D

418
PayPal actually has something for digital goods.  I just have to wait until later to actually dive into and look at it.

419
I was thinking along those lines too.  I've done some work with php and mysql in the past but my knowledge about it now is really outta date.  I have no problems building that section of the site at all.  The delivery method is going to be the real kicker and requires a lot of research.

I did some looking awhile back to see if there was a script but all I could find was a script someone was selling for $10 which I didn't want to do because how do I know it would actually work for me in the way I needed it to work?

Site Related / Re: The old "Rank" page - gone?
« on: November 01, 2012, 23:31 »
I kinda miss it too.  Also I notice some people on the forum still have their guages from the rank pages.

421
Daily download tracking is going to drive you insane and clutter up your worksheet.  Monthly is easier to deal with.

I have mine in Excel.  I keep track of my payouts for taxes and what I make at each agency every month plus what I've made with them for the year. Today I started tracking what I've made with each agency all time since 2009.

Keep your paperwork simple.  Doing it on a daily basis is going to take time away from creating your works.

422
Ah I'm used to tweaking.  I've been building sites on my own for over 10 years.  Course this will be my first foray into downloadable images.  The delivery system is the one thing that I need to figure out and research.  I'll check out the link you gave tomorrow halloween was a busy night.

Thanks :)

I've never used Word Press but that would definitely be interesting to know.

423
I had ZenCart too awhile back and found it to be finiky for digital downloads.  I started to write it down on paper earlier and it's just as complicated on paper as it is in my head.  Prolly biting off more than I can chew.  Now I would have absolutely no problem selling physical items as I intend to start doing that next year as well for some stoooopid reason digital has me more baffled.

Once I get it all down on paper then I'll start fiddling with building the physical section on my site just to see if there's a way to streamline it.

Course then there are all the * web browsers to consider ya just had to remind me about that didn't you  ;)

I'll let ya know how I get on with it.

424
Just curious if any of you out there that sell direct don't have some sort of 3rd party system to sell your images.  I can't afford to purchase any of the CMSs and everytime I think about it in my head it ends up more complicated than I want it to be.

Would like to know any experiences and examples you would like to share.  I would like to get started on it and launch the first of the year.

Thanks,

Anita

Thanks Leaf.  Good to know that there is at least an option for it but sucks that it's dodgy and makes the site slow.  So yeah I'll just go on skipping the threads that don't interest me.
