Exactly!! I received that stupid email too.

Who would want to belong to anything called "Dollar Photo Club", anyway? It sounds like, my photography isn't that good anyway, and it is not worth more that a peanut.

So what's YOUR secret?

Better work on that percentage though, it needs improving.

Conversation with a lawyer:

Me: I was wondering if you wouldn't mind working for free?
Lawyer: You already owe me ten dollars.
Me: What for?
Lawyer: Make that twenty.

 

How did this attitude even come into existence??

People love free stuff. If you are an attorney, they ask for free legal advice.
If you are a GP and go to a party, someone certainly asks about their headaches or tummy pains.
If you are a hairdresser you will get asked about hair products.
Work for a health store, health products.
Then there is this share craziness in social media, people share photos, video, media etc.
Lines get blurred as to what is appropriate and what is not.

Of course people asking for free photos is annoying, we work hard for creating them and we invest in our gear (it is not like we point and shoot with a cheap compact and voila! are ready). A lot of people don't seem to realize the time and effort we put into this. They don't understand what "stock" is, they don't realize we do the post production, write keywords, captions, think categories, and before this think what sells, what to shoot, which images to choose, meanwhile educating ourselves. They believe these things just "happen".
However, I can't really blame them, because I can't steer a ferry or change a computer hard drive, as these things all require different skills.

I guess my point is: try think of this philosophically. People have a weakness for free things 
Our work is valuable and we should always get something in return.

Opted out from DPC!

Just deleted a photo with no sales in 4 years at DT. I don't mind cleaning up photos with little sales potential, but this photo has sold 67 times on another site.
0 sales at DT vs 67 sales elsewhere makes no sense, think it must do with lack of marketing at DT.

I have deactivated old images immediately, but there are 30 days to choose what to do. Make sure deleting is your default action (it would make no sense to give images free, if you are selling them on other sites).

Around New Year's I had uploaded a big batch of images to their Media cloud. I had left them there waiting for editing, and when I logged in the next time, to my horror they were online... as Royalty Free (which is their default setting)!!

Luckily I was able to fix I the problem asap.

But: THEY had published them and therefore it was THEIR responsibility.

Is Mostphotos a stock agency to be taken seriously?
My impression would be no.

I uploaded about 200 photos to try them out in July/Aug, no sales so far.
Those images include some of my best earners on other sites.
It's a nice site to upload to, but there must be something seriously wrong about their marketing, the images seem to just sit there.
The next thing to do is probably to delete my account.
