Alamy's revenue presentation is as pathetic as their sales. And they're the only company i know who has to present everything in gross figures just to make the numbers look better. I never understand why alamy forum photographers report about their earnings in gross figures. It's very misleading since they only make around 45% of that when distributor sales are factored in.

It's amazing how much time people have to write lengthy answers to a troll. Must be making a lot of $$ and not have to get much work done.

I haven't jumped into this one yet. Their business model seems illogical to me.

I think the RPD could be as little as 10 cents and there would still be people out there eager to upload like there was no tomorrow.
For the record MY APRIL 2015
- 0 sales so far (had multiple sales a month for several years now) - 18 zooms at about 0.40 CTR - 7000 images - Page 1 of BHZ - Recently received the 'you're a top 500' contributor email - Alamy is by far my worst performing agency in regards 'return per image per year'
I think the problem is Alamy has found a niche, which seems to be editorial. The problem is they have dragged about 30 million non-editorial images along for the ride.
I split my portfolios and the non-editorial microstock portfolio does much better with less images than my editorial portfolio. They are middle tier here in the poll and i suspect most of the people doing that poll are selling their non-editorial microstock images with alamy. Like any other site, some people will do better with them than others. I don't sell much with FT while others say they are one of the best.
I have a small micro portfolio of about 120 images spread over all the usual micro sites. They return me a very decent $15 approx return per image a year for all agencies combined. Most of them are on Alamy as micro and sales are non existent. My overall sales at Alamy have historically been better than 1 sale per thousand photos a month that has been stated a general guideline in the past. I'm in the top 500 contributors at Alamy for the time being. My return per image is around 40 cents per image a year. My next worst agency is around three dollars. Alamy just don't have the business model in my opinion.

Had a monumental last weekend and was looking set for a best week ever, then had an abysmal Wed to Fri. Not typical of SS which I usually find very consistent.

So the question now is, when is SS going to force our video content over to BigStock or force us to delete it from SS altogether? That's got to be coming.
I don't think SS will force us to move our videos to BS. They obviously think they can play the BS video market without it harming their SS footage sales. Perhaps it's a totally different client base and there is 20 times more choice at SS. However it does seem to be a stupid and greedy move on the surface, and a move towards undermining the SS business and brand. Hopefully they know what they are doing

Hi!
Is it just me? 2 weeks and more (half a month!) and my images still pending. This is very unusual.
Approval time on Big 4:
1. SS 1-2 day 2. FT 1-2 day 3. iS 2-3 day 4. DT 14+ days!!
Best regards.
I think they only have one reviewer, and they are part time only. Such is the state of microstock and Dreamstime

The web design and English need some work. The interface feels a bit dated. I only see two contributors - Bestviewstock with over 100k and Viewstock with 50k. Both Chinese factories. So, you're not really going to gain an audience with that kind of content.
The Discover function actually works pretty well. It couldn't find the images I was looking for, but it managed to figure out that a clown fish was a clown fish and gave me back images of clown fish. Same for roller skates.
The English is fine and totally understandable

Any farmer that would make the effort to identify and prove the bar code is his property, would also be able to prove the cow was in fact his even if bar codes were deleted. He would show this simply by providing photo of the cow in court with the exact same skin patterns as in your photo.

NOT WORTH IT - this agency has a weak position in the micro market and therefore doesn't sell a lot of photos. My worst performing agency by several hundred %.

I receiced today a very interesting email from ME suggesting that i MAY have some missing model releases in my portfolio. Of course the text and form of the mail it was very general like an advertisement and since there is no inspection at ME i guess they sent this newsletter-ish email to everyone, which pretty much says it all about how covered legally everyone is when uploading at ME.
What this implies, sadly, is that in the unfortunate event one has not tagged his footage as editorial,or worse yet has and there are still legal issues, ME is legally irresponsible since it will sell this footage anyway.
So i have spent a lot of time and effort uploading to an agency that hasn't got my back and refuses to be held accountable for my mistakes or mispractices if you like. Had my 2nd sale this week too after 4 months and i think it's high time i halt my uploads, and eventually pull my port, since this business model of theirs seems questionable at best.
I received this email many months ago and instantly deleted all my clips numbering around 200. Since then I've uploaded again to 50 clips (nothing that could need releases). Still yet to make a sale here and I do well on P5/SS. Not sure about this agency. Some of the favourite keywords searches are 'free clips', 'free downloads' which doesn't bode well if that's the expectations of people using the site.

Competing against 55,000,000 unedited images - probably not worth it.
And I'm in the "top 500" club for the last period, and I still say not worth it for the time and effort.

Something fishy going on! since the crash on Thursday my port is like invisible to buyers. just a few subs and that is not normal
I have the same feelings
I agree totally. I have 3000 video clips and 150 photos and usually get a similar amount of income each week. This week it's fallen off a cliff. However I think it's possible SS death wish scheme of growing the Bigstock footage library may finally be showing signs of destroying the SS footage business

88,000 and growing fast. Who are the a######e's who provided their clips for this service?

The idiots at SS have been spending too much time uploading footage to Bigstock and have crashed both sites in the process

Hopefully they're fixing the bug that stopped them reporting my sales for the past day!

SS obviously want their Video business to fail. Why else would have they developed Bigstock Footage which now has 88,000 clips and counting - up from 30,000 a few months ago. Unfortunate they had to go and ruin a good thing.

At what time should video makers become worried about Bigstock Footage? Or is there nothing to fear, for you'd have to assume SS know what they are doing. The BS footage collection now sits at 66,000+ up from 30,000 a couple of months ago.

In an ideal world every contributor would delete their account in unison, and the SS would have absolutely nothing. That way they may respect that contributors are their only asset. One day stock photographers/videographers may find a way to use their collective power in a way to gain control or at least respect from the agencies.

Location for video is not relevant. $10 a clip signals desperation. $50 is around the minimum footage should be sold for. $10 doesn't go that far now even in places like Brazil.

My cheapest clips are $49, I have a large % at $59 and several even higher.
Pricing below $40 means you don't value your work or the future of the industry. If it's competing with many similar competitor clips, just make sure it's either slightly better or a little different and sales will eventuate, unless of course it's an overstocked subject not in demand.
