Yaymicro / Re: YAY closing
« on: July 05, 2020, 04:37 »
In the light of Shutterstock's cash grab, YayImages now sounds like an interesting deal. I might actually look into uploading now!

Downloads of 2.5 cents and 5 cents with YayImages.
They acted far earlier than ss in giving tiny amounts, but no uproar as they're not popular.

That was 4 years ago, they've got new management and reopened.

GLStock / Re: GLStock What are they upto?
« on: July 03, 2020, 15:12 »
It was for sale earlier this year maybe they got a buyer?

For sale? Glstock was for sale? Did I missed anything?

Not that I know of, GL Stock was over in 2017 or so.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Respect your elders?
« on: July 02, 2020, 07:49 »
This elderly man clearly says he's only in it to circulate his images and enjoys his images being seen. A small time hobbyist who is not in it for the money, and why should he? He's had a good career, and he want to spend his retirement doing what he loves. He has zero influence on the current situation. Do you really expect him to drop his portfolio in support of the younger generation?

He is totally irrelevant to the professional microstock industry, and you should direct your anger at the real enemies. He doesn't owe you anything.

How can it be dead? There are over 322 million files online. 4 million more than just a few days ago.

Does all this blackout thing help at all? WHO is it that keeps uploading, and WHY do they do it? I'm getting so frustrated here. I don't see Shutterstock losing anything at the moment. The amount of files should be decreasing instead of increasing........

You shouldnt be worried about whether it will hurt SS. You should be deleting your port because your images are worth more than 10 cents!

Sure thing, except the big question is: where is the next best place where we can sell for more than 10 cents? Are buyers considering our images worth 10 cents? Sales aren't really picking up at other places, and the other agencies are not compensating the huge revenue drop from deleting/disabling our SS portfolio...

We all consider our work worth more than that, but do the buyers know?

General Stock Discussion / Re: So where are we at now?
« on: July 01, 2020, 13:21 »
As someone that did this fight several years ago with iStock and others, I sympathize with those taking a stand to get more for their work. That said, I feel like micro stock dried up as a viable business model a couple years ago, so I'm not sure what I'd be fighting to get or return to at this point in time. I figured the whole thing would either collapse, limp forward in its current state or something new would come along.

Agreed.

Although I'm taking a stand against SS and try to fight the race to the bottom, I think microstock as we know it is done for.

There will always be contributors who think it's worth their time and skill to keep uploading to earn pennies, effectively making images and video a low-priced commodity.
Microstock's heydays are long gone and won't be coming back. Maybe we can stall the decline for a couple of years by fighting SS, but I'm afraid it's inevitable; the unlimited subscription model is already a reality for most agencies, nanostock will be the new normal.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Digital downloads on Etsy
« on: July 01, 2020, 06:32 »
I contacted a seller yesterday who was reselling some derivatives of my vector work. I said it's not permitted to (re)sell (altered versions of) my work, even with a license. She said she did buy an RF license but misread the terms. She apologized and removed the items from her shop.

Bottom line: if you ever find your items on Etsy, try contacting the shop owner and politely but sternly explain the situation. That might be more effective than contacting Etsy with a DMCA.

Pond5 / Re: What impacts ranking?
« on: July 01, 2020, 06:08 »
I think the system takes all kinds of factors into account, but the most likely way to sort it is by upload date (i.e. file number).

408
It just 1,  2 or 3 photos from a package of 100 this is not too often.

Well, leave it be then.

Or keep the reviewers busy and waste their time by uploading rejectable content, that way it's keeps them from reviewing the better content.

409
If you go exclusive, they get your files back onto Adobe and onto Vimeo stock. You get 60% of revenue.

If you go exclusive on Pond5, you shouldn't get your files back onto Adobe...or what do you mean? Am I misreading this?

410
hi how approuve photo rejection : Rejection reasons (1)
Similar Content: This content is too similar to another image or clip that has already been submitted or published.

I just try to reuploade just after and reject for second time. I have to wait 1 day or something like that ? Thank

It means you shouldn't try reuploading stuff that is too similar. They've loosened up their similars policy since the royalty cuts, because they're more desperate for content than ever, but if you still get rejections like these, then it probably is too similar to your previous work.

Either try to create something more unique or don't upload at all (because putting in more effort for SS is not worth it anymore).

411
I dont understand those people who seem never to be reading anything on what platform soever- otherwise they would have read about the new price structure at SS and the boycott going on for a full month now.

And then they pop in like innocent children who cant read or inform themselves about what is going on completely astonished about "what is going on" and crying.

I thought every grown up is somehow informed about crucial things going on in this world.
But it seems some peeps are living on the moon with no interest in whtas going on around them.

In their defense, with all the newsletters, promotional emails, GDPR nonsense, regular spam and photoshoot tips I can imagine one not noticing more important announcements. Also, some people have busier and more active lives and don't have the time to read every email.

412
It is a different situation for illustrations. This month I am better off than the months before, in spite of many many 10 cent sales. I am talking from my point of view, thats all.

That sounds nice in theory, but now try to calculate what this month's revenue COULD have been if you had received 25c/30c/33c/38c per sale...

413
I also see some problems:
- It's too slow for buyers. Most buyers just want stock images fast and cheap. If buyers need custom images or have specific request, they might just as well hire a freelancer. Your concept falls inbetween: it's not as cheap and fast as buying from a regular stock site, and not as specific and tailored as a custom job.
- It leaves room for abuse by artists: throw everything at a client and see what sticks. Curating and moderating submissions costs money and time.
- It's time-consuming and not rewarding enough for (honest) artists: checking every request, uploading what they have, hoping some client chooses their submission.

414
It's probably from the Projector integration by Shutterstock, a tool where people can create multimedia presentations, gifs, etc.

Either way, stop passive complaining and close your account or disable licensing for video, that's the only way to stop this lowballing nonsense.

415
https://forums.submit.shutterstock.com/topic/100567-043-cents-video-yes-you-are-reading-it-right/

What does it take for them to wake up anyway? 0,01$? They rather continue complaining about it then take action? Do they have any self-respect? any value for their work? Any working brain cell left in there?
Their earnings are dropping so much soon they can't even use it as an excuse to stick around anymore. What will they do then, wait and hope for things to turn around at SS? chr.st!

It's because of this submissive mentality Shutterstock or any other company does whatever they want!

I don't blame Shutterstock anymore I blame them! and I do hope their sales will go down to 0,01$. Go for it Shutterstock, take everything they've got! They are too f.cking dumb anyway!

Even Jon himself said if you don't like it then take your content and go yet they still don't get the message.
I have never seen such a sad bunch of people in my whole life, beyond pathetic!
And they are supposed to be educated and skilled professionals/hobbyists. If they were new at this and don't have a clue yet then maybe it would be forgivable but these are experienced contributors for gods sake!

So to those who are still active at SS, stop whining and suck it up! you get what you deserve! now drop your pants and bend over!

I don't like to criticize people personally for their business (in)decisions, but I also don't understand why anyone would stick with SS after those sub dollar sales.

I guess it's what they call in poker "staying married to your hand", i.e. when you're holding AA but the board tells you you're beat anyway. You don't want to give up your precious AA, so you stay in the game against better judgement...Back to the case of Shutterstock: contributors don't like what they see, but after years of building their portfolio and enjoying good revenue, they find it hard to quit suddenly. So they stick it out with SS, disgruntled and disappointed, clinging to the false hope it'll get better. Hopefully, after some time most of them will see they're better off without SS.

Haha, he blocked me too. It's good to know that my post agitated him so much he had to block me out of frustration. Feels like a victory of sorts, albeit a small one.

- At least 10 Million (good, premium content)
- I want to earn money, not pay for uploading or a paid membership.
- Exclusively: 0, Non-exclusive: ~500

I once had my own stock site with the CMSAccount software. Paid $70 for the template, spent days customizing, fixing and tweaking, then creating a database, prepping my portfolio, writing license documents, uploading everything, checking the payment system, tweaking some more...I got it all up and running after many, many days of work.

I figured if I made 10 sales a year, I'd be able to recoup my costs.
But my portfolio wasn't big enough to get traffic, and those who did find my website didn't purchase anything.
On top of that the VAT system was hard to configure as I couldn't automatically check where my visitors were located. In other words, automatic checkout with custom VAT options was not possible.

All in all it was a big waste of time for me.

Dreamstime.com / Re: Dreamstime increasing royalties
« on: June 24, 2020, 07:58 »
I'm getting more and more sales on DT than ever the last couple of days (according to StockSubmitter), but for some reason my DT statistics page doesn't update...Anyone else who has the same problem?

Edit: never mind, it's a server delay according to the DT forum admin.

Great news, hopefully more big names and portfolios will follow.

Shutterstock.com / Re: The attitude of a real capitalist
« on: June 24, 2020, 04:34 »
As I said in another thread: what a pompous ass for tweeting something like that. Compare this guy to someone like Bill Gates for example, Gates would never attack anyone like that on Twitter. Oringer sounds more like an agitated Trump, with his stuck-up, billionnaire attitude.

This poor guy is hurting so badly......

He is a pompous ass. He may be a billionnaire and have all the money in the world, but he's a horrible and immature person. Instead of properly addressing concerns and showing some understanding, he chooses to attack contributors and chase them away. He's the prime example of the rich elite who takes a dump on the little people who made his business. What a sad little man.

Here comes a poll for the next microstock agencies to add and other news :)

Perhaps a cheeky question, but can't hurt to ask anyway: would you be willing to join the fight against Shutterstock's royalty cuts (and race to the bottom of the microstock industry) and support the coalition (https://stockcoalition.org/) by DISABLING the possibility to upload to Shutterstock, at least for a while?

Personally I totally support the boycott and the fight.
I've already deactivated my portfolio there and will stop uploading new content.

However, we cannot force paying customers to upload or not upload somewhere, that's their own decision.
As far as I wish to help the community in this situation that would be not fair to those contributors who don't want to join this fight.

I understand. Thanks for supporting the boycott personally!

I just deleted my account yesterday.
#boycottShutterstock

P.S. Can we get this hashtag to trend on twitter?

You'd need the K-Pop fan community to make things trend on Twitter. Does anyone have any connection to someone who can mobilize that army?
