Apparently WeatherENG has been banned or quit?

Wow...could WeatherENG be undercover P5 agent that got busted? ;-)

Interesting comment coming from SSArtist.

Ha ha.... Unnecessary comment coming from TickStock. SSArtist has nothing to do with SS!

Great one from cobalt - http://www.microstockgroup.com/shutterstock-com/what-if-ss-offer-exclusivity-with-these-contributors-commissions/msg423535/#msg423535

From buyers point of view 4K packs are just great and not to miss deal!
I suspect SS will flood existing and new buyers with this offer and many will go for it.

The pricing for SS 4K packs is as follows:
5 Clips $929
10 Clips $1,759
25 Clips $4,259

Time will tell ...

P.S. why P5 doesn't offer packs?

This is the battle for buyers that SS will most likely win.
Sadly, P5 was a great idea but didn't react fast/smart enough to shake SS more and grab some big fishes.
There is NO logic to price $500 clips anywhere when they can be found for $199 on SS.

AND P5 does not have extended licenses!
Why they like to keep that amateurish attitude, I will never get!  :(

Wow, did you really try that hard to come up with this reversed logic?
Seems like you actually condone SS for this.So they are the professionals who do what they need to do (simple market logic) while all the others
are silly kids fooling around?
Well done sir,well done.
His name was SSArtist before he changed it to KnowYourOnions, it's no surprise really.

Totally wrong!
I was big fan of P5 but their management sadly sucks in making the great idea happen.
Sorry if it hurts.

P.S. My Username was and still is SSArtist, but has nothing to do with ShutterStock. For your info, Usernames can not be changed on MSG. I choose to publish posts with KnowYourOnions since Dec 2014, as it sounds more appealing. :-)
On MSG it's possible and legit to have different username and public name under one account.

Thanks for the compliment.  I have been reluctant to do so because don't want to hijack these forums is for, but will keep in mind.  I'm very open to suggestions of what else to cover.

THANK YOU KerinF!

I fully agree if what you have is the right thing for customers with large budgets, you can charge more, but wouldn't it be better to keep it at pond5 with a 500 dollar price tag or more?
300 was too cheap for professional production costs, so for 200 you should proably pull it and move it elsewhere.

I would guess they need better growth numbers to impress the Wall Street.

I tend to match my prices at SS and P5. I'm afraid not many customers would want to spurge $500 on a clip if they can get it for $199. At the moment Shutterstock is my best earner and I can't afford to quit it. But this move sure made my think about diversifying my revenue base.

I have to say I am disappointed and discouraged by this price change. This will devalue the whole 4K market. I know that Shutterstock price is often used as a guide in setting prices by other agencies and artists, myself included. And it just became 1.5 times lower overnight.

And good luck waiting to "market" our stuff. The only marketing they do is selling cheap and massively and boasting about it,some people should eventually realize that this is what marketing is all about, unless they fantacize that ss goes out to companies and says "hey we have a dude here that is creating awesome 4k clips of flowers, check out his stuff" .
I mean really...

well said!

Some people are having luck and making money selling still photos, not sure how many but I checked the artists resources page today at Pond5 and almost fell off my chair at the prices three photos just sold for, in the $500 range, thought it was video and I clicked and they were still photos.......nice to see!

Link pls!

On 9 July 2015, the European Parliament might destroy photography.

The Freedom of taking photos in public places is under attack. Until now, in most countries in Europe you were safe to take and publish photographs that are taken from public ground This is called Freedom of Panorama. When you were on vacation, you could take a photo from the London Eye and share it with your friends on Facebook*. If someone wanted to pay you for using this photo, that was okay as well. Both is about to change may destroy photography as we know it.

Not everyone is capable of responding to the negative posts in a polite way that isn't an attack back.

if that matter, i see similar unprofessionalism also in stock agencies' newsletters and blog posts, must of that stuff is clearly not written by professionals and left to the good will of a random employee .. it usually backfires because it gives the impression their company can't even hire someone good enough to communicate properly and effectively, this is even more sad if we talk about companies like getty or corbis who are worth billions .. same sh-it even in many other multinationals ..

Soooo true and so disrespectful...slap onto our face who helped them grow!

Maybe Leaf can help here? Why they don't participate?

P5 has been quiet slow for me in since the beginning of this year. They used to sell as much as SS but not anymore.  :-\

P5 is great with 50% commission, but SS does a great job in sales hooking up buyers to our footages.

As selling stock is a numbers game and today we're talking about agencies having archives made of 50+ millions images, why would they need to please a few stockers on a niche online forum ?

I dont see any positive ROI on that for the top agencies, it only makes sense for the small fries and the newcomers to come here and to get some free exposure for their products.

Market leaders like SS just don't need us anymore, they're well past the initial phase when they were dependant on the good will of the top uploaders .. now contributors are dime a dozen, including the top sellers, we've just no leverage now.

SOOO true, sad and scary!  :-\

They are Australian as I recall??

They don't have any presence in Australia, nor in Canada, UK.... they target small markets like Argentina/Czech... hence weak sales!  :o

P5 is not good for photo sales.
They do better with videos.

But despite 50% P5 is still well behind SS in sales.
Reason? NO investing in sales.  :o

What's the point uploading to deal of 50% or even more when nobody buys! :-\
But why would P5 care...they've got $61 millions in funding to go to eternal vacation ...plus all they ever wanted was IPO to get rich, hence "we-look-after-artists" bs PR for naive masses.  :-X

419
What I find the most annoying/incredible is that Agency reps most definitely read MSG but choose not to reply to concrete questions we had.  :-\

P5 has gone on vacation this month. They must be telling their buyers, "no way man, go to SS if you want video clips."

Vacation this month only?
With $61 millions funding one year ago, burlesque dancers and circus performers, preferably from the south with great sense of humor, don't feel a need to work anymore. 8)

Absolutely agree on the price floor, but that ain't gonna happen because P5 is focusing on  small markets and small buyers.
There is hardly any presence of them in the UK, Canada, Australia ...  :o

If that is part of their strategy, I stress, part of, maybe that's not a bad thing, someone need to cater to the smaller markets and buyers as well as the deep pocketed clients
, I just think a slight increase to the price floor is in order, maybe $49 for HD or something close to that, for the clients who low to no budget there is all that free stuff on VB now anyways.

From what I've seen I think they prefer smaller markets/buyers (hence cheap clips all over and no investing in sales).
I can understand to experiment in those small markets for a while, but for the company which had been around for long 10 years, I just don't get that they don't have much presence in big markets like the UK, Australia, Canada...their marketing strategy (if any) is rather weird, imho.

Wonder why not a big presence in UK, Australia, Canada? we could solve that problem for them on our own I think by promoting our work that we have on P5 to those countries? if we get some buyers aware there is good product at P5 that is reasonably priced then they should look, word gets around and more will look?

M

Hmm...kind reminder that these guys got $61 million in funding a year ago!!!
If they don't have money to promote us in those markets I don't see the point trusting their "artist friendly PR shout".
We build them with our submissions, we trusted their sales will grow...it's time to get something in return, don't you think?
Us bragging about them is not going to bring big UK, Ozzie and Canada  media fishes on board.
