As someone that used to contribute regularly to sxc.hu (I've since removed most of my portfolio there) way back before I ever heard of micro-stock, I can tell you that there used to be ads from other businesses.
Only after they (and StockXpert) were purchased did the ads belong solely to iStock.
Neither an argument for or against Yotola, just my recollections.

They probably got it the same way that they got mine... My domain registrations aren't private.

I read in the article that they didn't contact Google or any of the copyright holders.
Figures...

I can't remember who did it, but the score for "Event Horizon" used to be one of my favorites. Thanks for bringing this up and making me look at OSTs again!

Do buyers use categories, let alone genres for a search?
I was always a card-carrying member of the "categories suck" club, but seeing what buyers searched for on Dreamstime has made me rethink that somewhat. I notice quite a few images where there is nothing listed under "buyer searched after" which leads me to believe that they were looking at a category. I could be wrong (and often am!) but it makes me wonder.

If you're that fed up with your Sigma, would you consider selling? If so, what would you want for it?

How good is the timelapse function in the D800? I don't mind having to use an intervalometer but it would be nice for the times when I have forgotten to put it in my camera bag.
One of the big advantages of the Canon is that the way the remote trigger is implemented is that you can do bulb ramping for time-lapse when you have long transitions from day to night.
On the 5D II half the time I'm actually using the intervalometer in a way where I'm just using the camera in continuous shooting mode with long exposures. For example in this clip: only about 2 scenes are actually using a timer setting on the intervalometer, the rest are exposures of 0.5-1.5 seconds shot continuously. If you don't actually have something to do bulb ramping, manually adjusting exposure times is much easier if you're using an external intervalometer rather than the built-in one.
In practice, even if an intervalometer is built in, I'd probably still use a remote trigger most of the time. The real issue with the D800s for timelapse though is just the file size. You don't need that much extra resolution, but it is nice to be able to get the benefit of shooting in RAW, particularly for adjusting white-balance in changing light conditions - without any sRAW setting, its just a massive amount of data to handle without any benefit.
Great timelapse! Were you using an Omnitracker on the bridge sequence?

After reading the "to our readers" story, it seems that they only became aware of his previous alterations after someone noticed this one. I guess that this was the first time that he got caught!

I just took a quick spin through the options and didn't see it off-hand, but it seems like it almost MUST be in there with the plethora of options available. I mean, you can sort by ISO or white balance, for crying out loud!
Perhaps some time spent on Google will solve the mystery...

Kari, you rule! Not only did you like my TV show on Facebook, but you took time out of your busy schedule to create this guide for others to use. You should publish this as an ebook and sell it on B&N, Amazon, etc.
The world needs more people like you!

I'm all for protecting our IP, but as stated above, there is a huge potential for misunderstandings and misuse the way the law is written now. I also wonder what effect it would have on a hosting company if sites hosted there were blacklisted...
That could be a giant problem for web developers like me!
I would like to see something like this in place, but it would have to have much more thought put into it first.

If you're only going to be making videos for yourself, just get Photoshop Elements. There are plenty of free alternatives out there to edit video if you're not concerned with having all of the bells and whistles. I use Premiere Pro CS5 to edit the weekly cooking show that I film, but I think that it would be overkill for what you're looking to do. If you're on a PC, try Windows Movie Maker or iMovie for the Mac. I'm fairly certain that those come pre-installed. Good luck!

Thanks for the compliment. I edit in Premiere Pro CS5 on a PC. You should check out the chocolate ravioli desserts on the December 27th episode. I mean, I love cheese, but chocolate is even better!

Chicken riggies is a local dish. It basically consists of rigitoni pasta with chunks of chicken along with peppers and onions in a cream-based sauce with a bit of tomato sauce thrown in for color.
Wildly popular here and virtually unknown anywhere else. Another local dish we'll be covering in an upcoming episode is greens.
While the economy sucks here (yes, worse than most of the rest of the US!) we sure have some great food!
Karimala, save some of that catfish for me! Here in Central New York (Utica, Rome, Oneida, in case anyone cares) Friday fish frys are a staple. However, they're usually haddock.

Thanks for the advice! I only meant that it would be easier for us to sell commercials on the show to local businesses if our number on Facebook were higher.
Plus, I'm hoping that some of you actually enjoy the show and might become regular viewers!
