Hi Magnum,
One more time congrats for playing the game so well. It seems some people here don't aren't clear when it comes to stock sales negotiations. Most would have been happy with 10 dollars but not you : ) Maybe some people will learn what can be made from stock if they follow your lead. Bravo.

Hi Magnum,
That was very well handled. Others on this site would have thrown a lot of money away with their philosophy, Bravo for playing the game so well.

Hi Gejam, Depends on time. As you shoot your images to double your collection your older images start to lose sales so it depends how many images you already have and how quick and well produced your second batch. I cannot achieve that at this point but a beginner who is improving their speed and quality still can.

Hey Sean.
Glad you liked it. There is some good info but you know it is always a bit softer by the time it gets to print. Let me know if there is anything in there that you want the straight dirt on. Christina put on a super show and I tried to make it to all the speakers. Very interesting issue of how U.S. courts handle Copyright issues compared to the Europeans. We definitely have some things to learn.

Hi All,
Met with them here at Cepic. They seem to understand what they are doing and there are some big changes in Micro coming down the road. Every major agency seems to be following. Looking forward to strong growth in micro over the next couple of years.

Hi madelaide,
You are here in Dublin I wish I had known. Yes they have t shirts that say Anyone but France here in Dublin after a terrible call made in a game last week. My wife is out buying the kids the England Kit. We'll see how well their friends feel when they wear them to school. We leave Dublin tomorrow. I am putting my money on Spain this cup.

Hi All,
Got to watch the match from a party at the Guinness brewery last night to close out Cepic here in Dublin. We are very lucky to have tied that game. Being the fat headed person I am I placed 50 Euro on the Americans to win. I'll take the tie even though it didn't pay. We really played terrible football last night, we never controlled the mid field we had no use from the outside on the attack and pretty much played with only two men up. That won't hold up long in the cup, I do hope we start moving the ball better. I have 3 12 year old keepers on my team that would have stopped that goal, I'm glad the Brits don't have my keepers to support them: ) Green will never see the pitch again. Enjoy the matches, looking forward to Australians and Germans tonight.
Cheers, Jonathan

Hi All,
I think Jim probably does what he does because he is one of the best and has a track history that stretches decades. In many cultures the people value the knowledge of those that have experienced a great deal on a particular subject. Like a good college there are quite a few people teaching in their prime years, their knowledge has a great deal of time invested. You can learn about law from a book or some young new lawyer but I would prefer Harvard.

Hi Lisa4,
I just wanted to add in that my RPI over the life of an image is ow between 300-400 dollars per image in it's life time. I spend an average of 50 dollars an image returning about out 6 to 8 times my investment through their sales. In the old days it was $1500 dollars an image over it's life but with the drop it is now down to the 3-4 range. I still find that quite a reasonable return on my efforts. If I produce 40 images in a day for Getty it costs me $2000 and within the life of the images I will return $12,000-16,000 from that days work. I think that is still pretty good money in Macro stock. P.S. That is almost all RF Macro work.

Click Click,
Getty does it and they have quite a few photographers. We get a photo brief every month and I can talk directly to my editor there to find out what is selling and what the collection needs. It is possible with larger groups.

Sean,
How Corbis handles its property releases is like all the Macro agencies handle it. Getty also explains clearly in their buyers agreement that if the buyer should use an image where it has not been agreed by the agency is proper then it is the clients responsibility. If you use the interface that Corbis offers you should be able to find anything you wish. Try the advanced search engine it works fine for me. Don't try and compare the model of Micro with Macro they are different in several ways. The information is out there if you just do a little work.

Hi Sean,
We aren't drawing the line on property releases at all the end user has to make the decision if they want to use the image outside of a market that requires a release so it really is a mix out there. Corbis has told us that they sell as many non property released images as they do released ones for commercial use so I guess the need isn't as great as I was always lead to believe by my art directors. I think it is good news that both released and non released images are selling well for both commercial use and for editorial. This image was used for commercial purposes leaving any release issue up to the buyer if there should ever be a question. Our agency, Corbis and our contributor are all in the clear because of the way the contracts are designed. Nice to see that no PR doesn't mean you should think about what collection to place it in, just as long as the buyer is the one responsible for the final use

Hi All, Well after being online at just one agency for about a week we had our first sale at www.spacesimages.com for $2200 dollars. The really fun pat was this image wasn't even property released. There is still a lot of money to be made in Macro RM. We are now officially a company with returns. Thanks to all that helped this agency become what it has and I hope we see sales like this starting on a very regular basis. Hopefully in the next month we will be represented by 50+ agencies. We are still looking to represent more strong photographers that are interested in learning more about the Macro side of the industry. Great way to finish the week. I am doing my happy dance as I type, which isn't easy Cheers, Jonathan

Hi All,
Great for Rick. He is the CEO at Blend Images one of the companies I am part owner and he is a great friend. Rick has been in the biz a long time and knows how to play the game. Congrats Rick. There is gold in them there hills in Macro still and Blend Images is a great example. If you are interested in submitting to them contact Sarah Fix through the web site.

Hi Lagercreek,
Yuri is under the Cultura collection because it is a third party company owned by myself and 20 other photographer from Europe that Yuri is contributor to. He is not contributing to Getty but to a third party agency like Cultura or all the others they have. It is represented by Getty but it is also represented by over 100 different agencies around the world. I mentioned this a few times that sometimes the best way to get into a Getty or Corbis is through a third party agency. These are agencies within themselves with a board of directors and owners and contributors. I have work in Stone, Image bank I actually have work I think in all of Getty's RM collections. Stone is eye candy but it is definitely not the biggest money as a single collection. That was years ago when Tony built it and Getty first bought it, things have changed a great deal. My Stone and my Image Bank don't do any better than my other RM work at Getty, it has far more to do with the image than the collection. The one way to tell what Getty wants to push is to pull up a page of RM with a single key word. Then count the number of slots each collection get on that first page of 60 images. Stone has a high count therefore they have more exposure and do well in sales, Image bank has a lot but so does Iconica and other collections owned by Getty. The third party agencies since they are not " wholly owned " have smaller placements, some don't get an image until the second or third page depending on their sell through rate the size of the collection and a few more factors. jockeying for slots on the front page is a very big part of a collection sales and success, third party or otherwise. It really isn't the collection because buyers don't shop by collection they shop by Key word. I hope this helps. Third party agencies are a great way to enter the big agencies. Talk directly with the Third Party like Cultura or Blend or Tetra or my new agency Spaces there are several of them, these are all third party agencies represented by hundreds of distributors across the globe. Hope this helps. Multi distributional is another option in certain third party RM collections at Getty and Corbis.

SJ,
Thanks for the feedBack, I am asking as many people as I know to try and guesstimate if this is me or an overall trend at Getty starting to show positive growth. I like the higher sales but I would much rather here that everyone is seeing growth that would be a good thing as they kind of set the sales scale in Macro for all other agencies as well. If Getty does well it seems that soon all the Macro agencies start to pick up along side them.

Hi All,
This entire year each month is getting better and better at Getty RM/RF. I have not added anything but some motion clips in over a year and I just had one of our biggest months in two years. Sales are growing rapidly I sure hope it continues. Does anyone else see their Macro work increasing in sales? Love to hear if you have. This past 2 months in Micro my sales have dropped for the first time since I joined. I hope that doesn't continue.
