I think it's so odd a lot of people qualify iStock as being consistent in their inspections!
I have over 90% AR on all sites i submit to (SS, DT, BigStock, FT and even Veer) and find those all very consistent, only with iStock i never can guesstimate whether my files will make it in and only have a mere 54% AR there. I just don't get their reviewers...

If I get a rejection for artifacts and can't find them, I usually resize the image from 24mpx to 12mpx and, more often then not, it goes through fine.

Interesting.  I have one image I just refuse to give up on.  I think I'll keep on smoothing it out, dialing up the noise reduction, and resubmitting it every couple of months.  Maybe I can figure out what they really want to see.

If you keep smoothing it out at one point they'll switch from 'artefacts' to 'overfiltering' rejection ;)
I've had a big dose of 'artefact' rejections as well... they completely vanished when i switched to a D700....
(still stuck with overfiltering rejections though. they seem to use it on every pic they don't like and it's always guessing what they mean with it since they use it for bad isolations, use of filters or noise correction sofware, too much saturation etc etc.. my little rant ;))

The only worthy site I know that allows their reviewers the option to add a personalised message is iS, shame the others only allow their reviewers simple one button presses it must create a lot more work for their support staff.

I don't think that's correct. I've had personal messages more than once on Shutterstock as well :) Admitted it is rather rare, but it definitely happens there.
(a little while ago there was a post in the forums there about a comment one of the reviewers added, dont recall exactly but it was like "thanks for the laugh, made my day" or something in that nature.)

Dreamstime.com / Re: New Pricing from Dreamstime

Ahhh, thanks a lot for that info gostwyck!

Yeah i'm absolutely thrilled and euphoric about earning $0,35 for a TIFF!!
 :-\
Quite the contrary...
I'm not sure what the big deal is? Can't anyone convert a jpeg into a tiff? I'm sure a lot of people do convert your photos to tiffs, so they can use them for print. It's not like they are selling your raw files.

No way i'll ever upload my raw's anywhere, they might just become available for subscription download before i know it ;P
True, converted from jpg might not add much value, but look at the credit pricing (lvl 5 here):
XS sells for 9  credits, medium for 14, XL for 16 and TIFF for 26 (11 for lvl 1; 15 for lvl2; 20 for lvl3)!  Adding/including that to the subscription plan really angers me and feels like a new all time subscription low.
I have no doubts DT implemented this to make it's contributors happy... but $0,35 for something worth quite a bit more than the largest size...ARGH! (plus, doesnt this make subscription more tempting to buyers? not the way to go imho)
I guess i'm just a party pooper?

Edit:schpelling

Just a quick question:
I just sold a TIFF through subscription on DT...for $0,35 (lvl1 image)
I never knew subcription customers could also download TIFF's for the same price before...
Was it always like that...?

Indeed thanks so much Denis (and others) for all the sorting and searching things out, lobbying etc!!!
I was just wondering why i had a photo credit on FT for the exact amount they withdrew a couple of days ago, then saw the good news here. Don't think you'll have to fill it in again since they already are paying back the witholdings.
Gracias gracias :)

In the US I was asked to submit form w-9.  I submitted on the first and it still isn't approved yet.

Does nobody any good to submit forms and then not have them reviewed.

Strange! i filled in my W-8 on the 2nd and it was validated a couple of hours later. Maybe another glitch in their whole 'taxing system"?

Nice 'surprise' at Fotolia today:
Photo Sale credit - File ID: 13874040 (withholdings included at 43%)

43%?!
I must be missing something. My W-8 has been filled in and approved....
Does anyone have a clue where this insane 43% might come from?

Check the actual figures, and see if you really were charged 43%.  It may be that 43% is being displayed in error.

Thanks Danrok! I did the maths and indeed they witheld 'only' about 30%, although the message clearly says 43%.
It was an 8 credit sale (murphy's law that only the biggest non-subscription sales are from the US? :P) for $2,26.
They withheld 0,672 (30% = 0,678, 28% would be 0,6328)
2,26 - 0,672 would be $1,588, but i earned $1,57. (2,26 - 0,678 (=>30%) would still be 1,582).

So indeed it was roughly 30%; it's the 'roughly' that's bothering me. I know they only pinched off $0,01 which definitely is not a big deal...if it happens systematically though we might be talking about big numbers that FT gets extra...

I'm pulling my port if this tax fiasco doesn't get solved soon. I hate to do it because they are, like for most of us, my n3 seller...but after thinking long about it i decided their money isn't worth it (admitted i have a rather small port there making the decision a tad easier). Submitting there makes me feel like a powerless wh*re who gets badly abused by her pimp, just waiting for the next beating...
No thanks.

Thanks guys for your help! :)
I did check 9a before (i'm in belgium with 0%) and did again with still the same TIN error popping up... Turned out the issue was i filled in N/A in both TIN and EIN fields. As soon as i emptied them it got through.

Fotolia, not that you seem to care even a little bit, but the way you're handling this is just a disgrace! Bah.

Screw them so much. I can't even get the W-8 form passed without filling a TIN number, because it keeps popping up in red i  need one.
Anyone found a workaround or something?
Thanks!
(NO WAY i'm applying for a TIN)

Veer / Re: What happens to Veer MP?
« on: December 28, 2009, 16:05 »
Strange thing happen to me, i have no sales since december 10th, before that i use to have at least a sale each two days, if no every day.
Also the graph of views have drastically fall down, strange  ???

Ditto here!

Veer / Re: What happens to Veer MP?
« on: December 17, 2009, 19:08 »
I'm pretty happy with them...i have a tinytiny portfolio there (55 pics), only had 2 rejections and have a download more or less every other day (not counting the serious down in sales the first half of november) usually between $1-3 range...
Not so spectacular, definitely compared to SS and iS, but still better than DT for me (with 227 pics).
I like them so far and am going to upload the rest of my portfolio as soon as i find time.

I was 'supposed' to make silver in about 3 months and wanted to go exclusive as soon as i got there. Made the preps already, stopped uploading on DT 3 months ago and such...
Time to revise the plan i guess... :-[

442
Ahhh, thanks again! My notorious dense-ness acting up again, i totally missed that phrase  because i directly clicked through to the next page with the full royalty structure :-\

So far for looking forward to silver....

443
Thanks for your replies guys!  :D
I searched and searched but didn't land on that page ErickN, it's exactely what i needed.
Hmm, you say it doesn't follow canisters...but it states +5% for bronze, +10% for silver etc...
I guess this is only for exclusives then? (although its not specified so anywhere there...)

444
I have been searching around for the commission chart for non-exclusives on istock but couldn't find it anywhere...(the exclusive one i found on the site)
Made me wonder, when you go up in canister there, do commissions raise as well, or not?
Could anyone point me to a chart or anything that applies for non-exclusives?

Muchos thanks :)

Illustration - General / Re: How to convert 3d render to .ai file?
« on: November 21, 2009, 23:27 »
"Illustrate" plugin for 3ds max can do this. The plugin itsself is pretty expensive ($395) but there's a fully functional 30 days trial on the site.

Here's what it does (couldnt link directly to it because its a Flash site):
Illustrate! is a non-photorealistic renderer.

It allows you to render your 3D scene in a variety of artistic styles. The most common is the cel or toon style where the objects are rendered with a single or limited number of colors and the edges are drawn with a line. This version of Illustrate! is particularly adept at this style of rendering. It includes a lot of advanced features for creating film resolution cel renderings.

Illustrate! also renders illustrations. Most commonly these are technical illustrations with hidden-lines eliminated. Illustrate! supports a huge variety of line styles so you can create complex illustrations.

One amazing feature of Illustrate! is its ability to render these styles out to vector artwork. It currently supports Shockwave Flash, Adobe Illustrator, and Autocad DXF output. This allows you render your 3D scenes for displaying on the Internet or for inclusion with other vector graphics.

Bigstock.com / Re: Increase in BigStock downloads lately?
« on: November 18, 2009, 11:45 »

Disappointingly, I'm still at less than half of Oct's earnings at BigStock, so wherever those ODD sales went, they didn't go to me at BigStock!  :(

Exactly the same situation here.  Hardly any OD sales at SS and a pronounced decline in sales at BigStock.

I have seen an increase in credit sales at DT, FOT, and StockXpert.  Maybe they went there?
And also the same here (im happy to hear im not the only one, in the SS forums people are claiming they still get them daily and see no change!); i used to have daily OD's...now only 3 so far this month despite very good download numbers, and no increase in BigStock sales.  :-[

447
Ouch, an EL!  >:(
Didn't they sent you a CoD (contract of destruction or something)?
I read in the forums for similar cases the owner of the pics received one.

You'd think for the mere 20% we recieve it's easier for them AND friendlier to absorb the costs....but alas.

448
Strange strange....ticket sent to support.

Thanks again guys and gals :)

449
Thanks colleagues :)

The only valid explanation would be if they indeed downloaded it again and payed twice for it (i read in iStock's forum that when they download a larger file instead you get "wrong image size" message instead of corrupted file).
If cclapper is correct it's still sketchy....
I just wanted they'd include more info in the e-mail; when or why etc.

Ah well...

450
Today i received an email from istock stating:
"We regret to inform you that a refund has been issued for a purchase of your file #:

file corrupted during download process.

It's not a biggie because it wasnt one of the EL's (although approx. $7 seems a bit a strange refund amount); but it still left me wondering. 'File corrupted'?
This is my bestselller and it gets multiple downloads every day; if it gets corrupted during the download process, isn't this istock's responsability (its THEIR software) when it's a perfectly fine file? Or would it be that the customer tried again immdiately and thus spent 2x the credits? (i nowhere see 2 similar size downloads really close together in the stats).

I don't know....it feels a bit sketchy...
Do they just take the customers word for it? Worst case scenario: Is my file maybe perfectly fine and free on their HD now? I've seen no CoD...
Again, i'm not really upset and wont lack any sleep over it...but i just find it pretty odd and unclear. Does anyone have more details about this sort of refunds?
