same here.... really sloooow for monday... anyone doing fairly well?? this weekend was terrible also
Ditto what you wrote, unfortunately. :-( Just FYI I'm an exclusive vector contributor.
I am an exclusive vector as well. My weekend was about average for me.  Monday started out promising and then fell flat.  :-[

its funny after i wrote this statement, i started getting downloads and finished the day really good. It really feels like your portfolio gets to be shown at the front of searches (flow) and then ebbs towards the back of the searches at certain hours. If you really think about this, it would seem like the only fair way to showcase all of the contributors works to some degree.

So how did it all go? You managed to find out if she really had problem or was it a scam? Btw if she can't download photos from istock, why not giving her link to your portfolio on other stock? (If you have one?)

she managed to download my artwork after a couple of hours. I am sure its the glitchy system on istock that prevented her from purchasing it. I am an exclusive there so no other stock. The rest of her story seemed really bizarre. The person that told her they were "dismantling" the site probably said something to the effect of server change or something like that.

what is the term for this kind of illustrations?

many years of experience in illustration and talent. The person even says 25 years in product illustration on ur second link. knowledge of lighting and textures created from a brush whether digital or not is gained from years of observation and trial and error practice.

I remember one of my professors telling students who couldnt draw hands and feet to get a sketch book and fill it up with just hands and feet studies. Practice practice...

iStock should really append 'if we feel like it' to every commitment they give.

istock is like the govt... inefficient. too many people with different agendas contradicting each other so its a snails pace.

What's different today in number of regular images in the first page (200) of photos only (with thanks to a test version of one of Sean's greasemonkey scripts that means I don't have to count these :))

Search term         Reg 4/12   Reg 4/14

fish*                         9      11
senior couple            20      30
woman shopping      31      36
tropical beach         12      15
spa treatment         39      44
woman eating         21      31
woman laptop         30      41
man portrait            26      35
doctor                     37      45
swimming pool         13      19
summer outdoors      29      35
child outdoors         36      43
sexy woman             9      12

* both food and animal meanings

So there is a small difference, but if you aren't a flaming image, you're not on the first page of search results in the "regular" section

Sean is seriously Superman! thats pretty cool

Anyone wanna take bets on if they will actually say anything this week?

im sure the new proposal is being looked at by Getty's management which has multiple meetings with H&F accountants. Of course its gonna take time between 3 companies and multiple meetings so my bet wouldnt be this week!

New Sites - General / Re: Great site for illustrators
« on: April 14, 2011, 09:41 »
I think i remember seeing this site a while back when it looked like something else. Definitely not micro prices with eps files going for $100.  I'd be surprised to see if there are substantial amount buyers on this site with all the different types of pricing here that you can get so much cheaper elsewhere if your a smart buyer. Would love to hear success stories from this site tho.

that kind of sounds a bit fishy to me.  make sure it's not some scammer trying to get you to give them your files.  Did she call iStock directly?  as much as they are screwed up right now, I don't really think an iStock employee would tell a customer "we are dismantling the site."  I think you should dig a little deeper into her story.

It does sound fishy to me also. I would be relieved if it is a scammer in this case. I replied back questioning her statement regarding dismantling the site. She replied back

"Yes, I emailed them and got a call from a man from a 212- area code, which is New York City saying that the image was no longer available and that they were in the process
of dismantling the site. I am sorry that this has upset you, and I am not making this up! So........what I propose is that I try one more time and let you know how successful I am, ok?"

« on: April 13, 2011, 13:11 »
This afternoon I get an email from someone that wants to purchase one of my files and cant through istock. She tells me istock told her that "istock is dismantling their site". Thats her words she used. I am not sure if thats correct but what is correct is that she cannot dl my images for some odd reason and needed to contact me directly.
Leads me to think of one of two things. Site doesnt work and has major issues and that might account for substantial drops in dl reported by some. Our files gets turned off and on for purchases which is highly unlikely imo but these days it seems anything goes.
One more what da eff moment as i read this troubling email from my gmail account. The advertisements on the side of the email is for THINKSTOCK. so istock/getty pays google to advertise in emails anything with the word "istock" gets a thinkstock ad.

my first thought was that he jumped the gun then realized what he did so he went back and removed it.

That is exactly right. He also stated that he was going to accept the deal that was going to be on the table so whatever it is it can't be too bad, as he was pretty definitely opposed previously.

or he realized that IS had him by the short and curlies and he had no choice but to take the scraps that they offered or he'd never be able to buy that new lens cap.

dont you mean wacom tablet?

Im thinking he got a private email regarding his post from the admins so he took it down himself.

I wonder if we are on a rotation to get the image exposure.

Thats my thinking of the meaning of "ebb and flow"

441
I apply the formula: don`t buy at istock, don`t sell at istock.

Istock is an abusive system.
If you buy at istock, you support an abusive system.
If you upload to istock, you support a abusive system.
If you are an exclusive artist at istock you give your name and all your creativity to an abusive system. Nothing to be proud of, buth rather ashamed.
Simple and clear.

Im only talking about myself here but i feel that there are no viable alternatives for me as a vector exclusive on istock. Im sure a lot of exclusives would agree that the sept announcement killed off any warm feelings contributors had towards the company. Your right, the pride is no longer there but i feel trapped. I'd like to know if there are any independents making hundreds a day off vector at other sites. I have no experience on other sites but i just dont think there are any at the moment to replace sales from istock. I know vectors and photos are different but i feel that the buyers are the same for both.

wow... that sucks.... its somewhat like getting mail from the irs saying you've been audited.

Just taking a look at my portfolio, it seems like newer files are being shown more prominently in this recent best match tweak. good news for my recent files.

It also seems like they pushed the vectors back a little further with this tweak. my portfolio is 2/3rd vectors and i am seeing more photos i uploaded last year at the front of my portfolio.

444
even though this best match shift has my dls up by a good 15%.

Is there a pattern to your increase in downloads? Is it older files that are selling well for you? Or are you just selling more of what you usually sell.

445

All in all it still looks an awful mess to me. Got to agree with jsnover above. Why did they make these huge changes? Seems like madness to me.

Out of desperation? Either istocks growth might have stopped or they are starting to see declining revenue. Lots of diamonds both exclusive and non saying downloads dropping like mad recently. Lots of indies saying bme on shutterstock seems to indicate buyer migration. They are tinkering with the best match to try to maximize whatever profit imo.

446
If certain contributors are propped up by this best match, wouldn't it also be possible for the best match to demote (put further back on the ebb line) certain contributors? Contributors that actively voice their concerns and protest here or on istock would be on this if there was such a thing.

Sure!  after what I can see, you, yourself have just been put back on the ebb-line,  you know, demoted, that is. Im truly sorry for you.

best.

Thats why i dont post on istock forums... and i go all incognito here =D

We don't randomly choose an agency to hate on.

IStock has worked really hard over recent months to get their contributors so worked up.

I agree... i pretty much have lost all faith in istock the last 6 months even though i am making more money through them now than ever before. Thats probably the reason i come in here more often nowadays to get a feel of whats going on and how this industry is doing. Istock is clearly squeezing the hobbyists out.
It just gets aggravating for me to sift through threads with certain contributors that say the same crap over and over again on the same topic on the same thread. Got it, i heard you the first 500 times. At least there is this place to vent your frustrations out, but some people just love to vent!
