Clever. They are making the switch from all of us who are pissed off about the clawback of funds being on tge offemsive to making us go on the defensive.
Three words: class action lawsuit. I am in if anyone can get it rolling.

I dont know how this will work other than to quiet 5 people in the forums.plus it will cause more speculation as the rest of us will remain in the dark.

Wait a minute. Am i missing something? If they want to test the card they buy credits. End of story. They dont go on and start downloading files. The cc transaction was done when they bought the credits.

okay, I have a big backlog of images to upload. How do I know if I'm included in this lastest "feature"? I want higher upload limits too!

snip And best of all, apparently the blogs are still being run buy Sylvanworks, who in this alternate universe is still an Istock administrator:
Yes, I thought he resigned from istock. Maybe that info has been there a while, from when he was blog administrator? istock never seems to get around to changing errors on their site (understatement). I don't know.
true, but you gotta admit they have mastered the art of creating errors on their site!

I wouldn't credit KT with the ability to do 'cryptic' either. That's too advanced. He can do 'ham-fisted' and 'foot-in-mouth' though.
Seems to have developed quite a mastery of "head up ass" too
hahahahahaha!

WOO YAY! That is such an improvement! NOT!
sheesh. when they learn to leave well enough alone?!

I just hope whoever is doing this is caught and we do find out what they were doing with our images. I really can't understand why a thief that had access to so many stolen credit card details would use them to buy images from istock. There must be lots of better ways to make money from credit card fraud?
How do we know that the credit card thieves aren't buying other things besides stock images? Maybe, as someone already mentioned, the credit card thief just happens to be a photographer or designer and stealing from istock is purely for fun? That they haven't stolen electronics, games, itunes, Starbucks coffee, whatever other things millions of people purchase on a daily basis?
Purely for fun - not on this scale. We're talking about hundreds of thousands dollars here in image "purchases". Which could be explained by someone breaking into or having access to the Istock customers' credit card information and then having fun with it.
has anyone found a stash of the reported stolen images out in the "wild" yet?

And speaking of more, didn't these folks also used to have a badge of some kind?
http://www.istockphoto.com/attator
http://www.istockphoto.com/alvarez
http://www.istockphoto.com/absolutely_frenchy
Even more names for the list. Not sure on the timing of any of these but I recall them all being inspectors at one point or another.
I don't know that you can necessarily equate these once-badged folks with dropping their badge due to the recent mess. Inspectors have a huge workload and I know of at least one that quit inspecting because it was simply overwhelming work with the way her life was going and she needed to make that change. Granted, the recent issues may be causing more to drop the badge than usual, but there does seem to be other factors that contribute to quitting that "esteemed" task of inspecting.

One kkthompson has deemed fit to make a short statement;
"I realize this is frustrating, but it is for us as well. Not being able to speak about it or explain our position makes everyone a little crazy.
BUT, when we are able to make a statement--believe me--you will understand why we're doing what we're doing.
Please be patient. That discussion could still be months away.
Kelly"
Still no apology of course __ or letter of resignation either.
He has *got* to go. Got to got to got to. If for no other reason than he exhibits no common sense or manners (where's our sincere and profuse apology, at the very least?) when it comes to running this company and communicating with the artists it represents.
His empty, blundering statements make my blood boil!
was this a recent quote related to the fraud? I haven't been reading the thread at the IS forums much to keep up.

So the IS forums have become dull and lousy because you're all here!
exactly! it's a lot more fun over here!

Brent was gone a long, long time ago. And yeah. I thought he was asked to leave.
really. wow. I know he was there in the beginnings (or at least from several years back) and he was one of the main IT guys. I didn't realize he had gone. he is both of these logins http://www.istockphoto.com/brentman (the contributor account) and http://www.istockphoto.com/brent the sysadmin account.

did they ever give assurances that they have this working so that it won't happen again??

Just found out that user Stalman is now "unbadged" for whatever reason.
wow. that's a real shocker I certainly would not have expected that one.

Weird. Now the buyer is just gone. The buyer didn't threaten to quit, but looks like their busy "corporate master" account has vanished like they never existed.

Interesting. I guess they bailed after all.
maybe they put buyers in a "time-out" too! "Bad, Buyer! go sit in Time-Out until you calm down. When you are ready to play nicely, then you can come back and play at iStock." maybe not, but it all seems a little fishy to me. I'm surprised the whole thread has not disappeared yet.

This afternoon rogermexico announced a bunch of fixes including multi term phrases in search. I just spent a little time going over some of the items I had reported problems with and they're different - not better - and still horribly broken.
I'm just horrified that they pushed such a wreck of a fix. I don't think they even went through and tested the exampled they'd been given in the bug reports in that massive thread (bug fixing 101 is test all the cases in the bug reports to make sure they're fixed).
See my post here describing the broken things I found. rogermexico's post is a couple above mine.
A phrase my Dad liked to use about useless people was "Couldn't organize a piss up in a brewery" (piss up is English slang for lots of drinking)
iStock's software people working on search really deserve that description. How utterly depressing to see many weeks of work producing this.
they have no clue about testing or user interface. ridiculous.

In case you all missed it: http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=312142&page=1From RogerMexico (aka Andrew) A week from today we will be doing another lump removal of royalties attributed to verified fraudulent downloads that occurred in January and February 2011. Today we are sending out an email to everyone affected, detailing the downloads affected and the amounts that will be removed for each one. We will remove these royalties on March 16.
The bulk of the unauthorized downloads in question took place in January. Since then we have seen a significant reduction in fraud. The amount of royalties removed for February was only about 10% of January.
We know how difficult it is to find out that royalties were fraudulent a month after the fact. We do not plan to do another mass pull of royalties like this again.

when you find these do you also report to compliance enforcement? at iStock it would be a simple email to ce (at) istockphoto.com -- I dont know about the other sites
I always shoot off an email to them when I find one of these and give them the URL and, if I am not in a rush, a screenshot of it as well.

Whew, you're welcome!
(everytime I see I new post, I'm worried something else broke)
ha! didn't mean to give you a scare, but really - this is great. I feel like I should buy you a beer or something!

BTW, looks like they have put the date back to the North American configuration: m/d/y.
That's just the script changing it per your preference in the options near the top.
Oh, that's great! What a relief. Retraining my brain to see dates the other way was proving to be a challenge.
How wonderful I can just look at what I want to see. Sean, you should invent a script for real life
Thanks again!
okay.. after procrastinating and never adding the script, I finally added it today -- mainly because the dates were hurting my head trying to convert them to the american way of reading dates. I just have to add.. this is fabulous! thanks Sean!!

I really like it when someone posts a comment about the istock forums here. I can see the most interesting stuff without wading through the regular garbage. To that point- I never knew there was a woo-yay thread! That is so tacky! So very istock! Woo-yay on jsnover!
yeah, it used to be if you started a thread about something exciting that happened to you you were quickly sent to the woo-yay thread. Over the last year, tho, I noticed that woo-yay threads are allowed to be started for certain people - usually black diamond or diamond or somethign like that. I can see that is a big accomplishment but a big EL or moving to a new level is also a big deal to a lot of newbies. I personally think that if you're going to make a woo-yay specific thread, then keep them all in there - no special treatment as it just makes things look more "cliquey." I honestly rarely visit the istock forums anymore. I used to be in there several times a day reading posts to make sure I knew what was going on. Now I pretty much figure if there's any big news someone will post it here.

is it just me or does it seem like there's a lot of micromanaging going on in the istock forums? http://www.istockphoto.com/forum_messages.php?threadid=309072&page=14I can understand trying to keep people on topic but geez, locking the thread discussing Feb earnings because people started talking about recent earnings. Give me a break. this seems to be a trend -- no more "+1", total revamp of the Pimp thread, despite the overwhelming posts to keep it as it was.. etc.

well, I had responded via tweet to the original tweet with this: @vettaimages so istock doesnt have a copyright on the term "vetta" or are you associated with @istock?they didn't respond to me but @iStock (the guy who runs the iStock twitter account) replied to me with this tweet: @JamiRae Yes, we do. No, he isn'tso I guess it's a bunch of dreamers that will soon be either changing their name or abandoning the whole idea.
