Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Image processing

Get in contact with your tech support where your site is hosted. They should be able to tell you whether you can have it installed or not.

Yeah, they should be able. But not in my case, they didn't have a clue, they just assumed it was there.
After my second request, they even replied that they just enabled it, but when I went to Image Processing, GD Library was still active.
But at least, thanks to Shazam's display tool, now we know where the problem lies, and they escalated my ticket, so hopefully, it will get resolved soon.

Save the file and copy it to the webroot directory on your webserver.

Shazam,
thank you for the step-by-step instructions.

In my case, my SYS site and wordpress are installed in a subfolder - www.advantica.com/stockphotos, so I created it in that subfolder.

The information screen displayed properly, and I can see that ImageMagick is NOT there.

Is there anything else to do?

Who is your host?

You need to have the php ImageMagick module loaded on your host.

I'm using ipower.com
They told me that ImageMagick is supported on  their system.

I have the same problem. I'm using PHP 5.3
I edited php.ini file and at the end (just before the local variables, I added the following two lines:

;ImageMagick - added on Aug 16, 2013
extension=imagick.so

Saved php.ini, exited from WP, reloaded WP, and in the Image Process, I still see the GD library.
Is there anything else to do?

In my SYS setup, I selected ImageMagick option, but when processing images, the top line shows that I am using GD library
So, which one is it and if the Image Processing uses GD Library, how can I switch it to ImageMagick? Or should I ignore that message?

Below are the screen shots:

Thanks in advance,

Les

Just had another sale. Wonderful. Buyer managed to get the image, but she said it was constantly downloading as an HTML, how do I fix that again?

Anyhoo, she bought the large version, so thats 17.50 euro, about 23.50 dollar. Again outperforming at least 4 sites. If I can get 2 / 3 sales per month, I am a happy camper.

Congratulations, Ron! That's just the start, keep adding more images.

there are far too many self-appointed "artists" nowadays and very few serious buyers, the supply/demand ratio is incredibly unbalanced.

That summarizes it quite well.

I experienced once a similar situation.
K-mart was selling framed pictures with one of my wolf images. They purchased them from a high-volume framing factory, who unknowingly bought unauthorized / stolen images from a shady print salesman. First, I wrote a letter to K-mart about the unauthorized image use, who referred me to the framing factory and then I met with the factory owner who was very cordial and quite embarrassed by that situation, so we were able to work out a deal in a civilized manner without involving any lawyers to compensate me, let K-mart sell the remaining pictures, and the factory was able to keep K-mart as their customer.

Lisa,
that would be like going to those pre-recorded comedy shows and wait for the showmaster's cues when to start laughing.

You won't see any big LOLs or small yellow circles in my posts. But after a while you'll get a feel when to smile and when to cry.

1 - I know how to read a graphic as well
2 - if it is that easy why are you wasting time doing microstock?
3 - on August 13th 2012 they were exactly 630$

Luis, I never said anything about anything being easy. I wouldn't say it even in a female company.

To paraphrase a certain well used quote on microstock forums, there are certain rules:
1. stock prices go up and they go down.
2. In doubt, look up rule 1.

However, one could say, that in contrast to microstock statistics that aim for absolute comparisons for specific dates and months, in investment world acting on peaks and valleys works out usually better than arbitrary dates. Write it down.

Now, if you prefer to buy and sell stocks on specific dates so you can track precisely BME and WME numbers, that's absolutely permissible.
For instance, if had bought that stock yesterday and sold it today, you could have scored BDE.

Firstly $250K of Apple shares is hardly 'modest'. Assuming a balanced portfolio of no more than 10% in any one investment it suggests a 'modest' $2.5M in overall savings.

That approach would require a fairly balanced investor. Not someone who likes to gamble on microstock.
I admit, "modest" may be not the right word when mentioning 500 Apple shares, but I do like the sound of it.

Gostwyck, you should loosen up, too. Are all the posters here so serious? Read my reply to Ron.

You act like having 250.000 dollar locked up in shares is the most normal thing in the world. How many people can afford 500 Apple shares? You've lost touch with reality.

Loosen up, Ron, don't take everything so seriously. You wouldn't want me to append those funny round emoticons to my posts, would you? That could insult intelligence of some readers here. Actually, when I think of it, some people could make even more money by selling their camera equipment.

not to mention that apple shares were at 630$ (1 year ago)
I believe it is ridiculous to compare doing microstock to buying shares...

Luis, to be precise, less than a year ago, those shares were actually over $700. And some "investment experts" predicted that they would soar to $1500 (same experts who corrected themselves as the share price was falling and subsequently forecasted $300/share). Certain Cramer made very similar predictions.

As to the "ridiculous" - I prefer the word "fun".

Guys, you may be spending too much time looking into that little viewfinder.

Talking about influencing company stock price:
Today, Carl Icahn announced a large investment in Apple, and promptly pushed its stock price by $22.21.
If you had a modest portfolio of 500 Apple shares, you would have made over $11,000 just in one day.  Beats taking and submitting pictures of isolated tomatoes.

I liked his quote, that some people get rich studying artificial intelligence, while he makes money by studying natural stupidity.

I'm sorry, who started this thread and made it public business?

Starting a thread on the forum (and fortunately not all participators take it as seriously as some) is one thing, and trying the second guess, speculate, or advise him how to operate his business is another matter.

Most of those speculations are as naive as Yuri's conclusion that he caused a run on SS stock price.
I'd bet that creation and growth of Symbiostock image pool, along with withdrawal of those images from the agencies, will have much stronger and more lasting effect on many agencies than any single contributor who enters or leaves an agency.

Very true, I apologize for the hasty writing. It's just when I noticed that big warning sign, I saw red.
However,  one nice day a torero could become a matador and make the kill.

Back to the original topic. Somewhere, I read that all matadores are toreros but not all toreros are matadores.
Same as saying that a top performer like Yuri is a stockshooter, but not all stockshooters could aspire to be top performers.

440
Nah, using a bullfighter term would be too simplistic - equivalent of giving to an Eskimo just one word for snow.

I have never been to that type of circus, but apparently they have a cuadrilla with seven men, including banderilleros, torero and matador.
Much better behaved and more civilized than some fighters in this establishment.

441
Not the torero

Its like a politician switching sides.  After years and years of telling people that its best to be non-exclusive, he does a deal and now exclusivity is suddenly the best option.  At the moment, he's exclusive and non-exclusive at the same time.

Firstly, the business conditions are changing, and changing your mind or direction is sometimes the best course.
Secondly, he is in a different position than most of us. Whatever deals he made, they are not available to the average contributor.
Thirdly, we don't know all the details and intricacies, or the big picture behind his new ventures.
And lastly, it's his business, and none of our business. I don't see him criticizing other stock shooters.

BTW, I'm still convinced, that the drop of SS stock price was caused by stronger currents than by Yuri's departure.

Yuri, thanks for checking back in despite the hostility surrounding this place.
Very true, some people get really worked up about other's accomplishments.

Regrettably, in addition to the contextual venom, now we have to put up also with visual affront. I've been always allergic to blazing red blobs - whether it was the Red Square flags used to push communistic propaganda or blood spilled by a portuguese torero.

I started a buyer FAQ at http://cascoly-images.com/pix/faq-frequently-asked-questions-about-symbiostock/  but we haven't had many reports of problems -- if you give me the details here I can add this fix

Steve,

the error message that I got when trying to download the (paid for) image, looked like this:

No webpage was found for the web address:
http://www.advantica.com/stockphotos/wp-content/symbiostock_file_download.php
Error code: ERR_FILE_NOT_FOUND

Also for some reason, the file number which is displayed above the purchased image, belonged to another image downloaded in the previous session.

It seems the problem was caused by the browser (Chrome)
It was eventually solved by rebooting the computer and a new login in the Customer Licence and Management Area (on the buyer's end).

445
I experienced a similar problem, I suspect it was caused by the browser - I was running multiple WP sessions on the same computer, which I do all the time, but perhaps that creates sometimes problems.

The problem was solved by rebooting and re-logging to the website (on the buyer's side).

446
Thank you, Mark and Leo.
I just added Yoast sitemap, hopefully that will help. I haven't touched the Google webmaster tools yet, that's next on my list.

447
I have implemented recently my Symbio site - as a folder in my existing website - http://www.advantica.com/stockphotos

The new site works fine, but it doesn't appear to be indexed by Google. When searching for my images, I can see all kinds of links, but none to my Symbiosite. Have other people with Symbio site in folders experienced similar problems?

448
My host (ipower) provides both GD Library and ImageMagick, and the default was set for GD Library.

I was able to find it in my Dashboard by selecting the Gallery in the Top Menu, then selecting Options. I turned on the ImageMagick option, and the image description, keywords, and copyright notice are now retained, but for all new images all camera data is removed (very strangely except the lens description).

449
Yesterday, I encountered a problem when testing image downloading. The interesting thing was  that for a change, that problem was actually on the buyer's end, not on the Symbiostock website (of course, that didn't occur to me).

With Leo's help, who was able to download the image without any problems, we figured out the problem was related to some browser issue on my computer, and it was resolved by rebooting the computer and a fresh login by the buyer (I was the buyer).

Maybe this was just a freak coincidence (I was running multiple wordpress sessions on the same computer), but it occurred to me that in order to keep the buyers happy, it would be nice and helpful (I should say - essential) to have some trouble-shooting knowledge base also for the buyers (accessible by buyers directly or by the contributor who wants to help his customer).

Nothing worse than a dissatisfied buyer who after one bad transaction might never return to any Symbiostock site again. Especially if he spends just a few bucks on a bloggee size image, and after an aborted transaction he just writes it off and walks away instead of reporting the problem to the website owner. Situations like this might be invisible yet damaging for the whole network, while establishment of a Troubleshooting Knoeledgebase and reporting/feedback by the buyers should prevent problems, improve their experience, and entice them to come back.

Just noticed that meta data stays embeded in the watermarked preview images on my site, but the downloaded files the buyers get are stripped of meta data.

Any reason for that? Is there any way to retain the meta data embeded in images?

Mike, can you see complete metadata in your watermarked file?  (including the camera data).
I can see the description, keywords, and copyright, but in the camera section I see only the lens description (no other data).
