BS No sales. Very low views per image, if they are accurate. 72% acceptance, usually within a couple of days. Images ranked by reviewers (OK / Good / Excellent). Most of mine are Good, none Excellent. The image ranked by reviewers information, where is this located please?

Many thanks!! It was taken with a 5D. I assume they did some fancy upsizing to get it that large. Actually, you don't need a huge photo for an outdoor sign. At work I set up the posters and bulletins in a page layout program or Photoshop from 9-13 inches wide at 300 dpi which is adequate for the OD company to upscale. Since it is at a distance, the final product can be a fairly low resolution.

In my opinion it's got to do with "On Demand" too How do you think this is affecting overall sales and downloads? My downloads also have decreased consistently since they implemented the OD feature, not much boost from new uploads either.

I've been focusing on some other things and will have time soon to add the additional graphic format to my existing templates and will make some more graphics to upload. Looking forward to sales too!

If you are a newbie to microstock and insist on running after the latest newbie site, can I interest you in a nice big Lehman Brothers bond? Do these new sites really think they are going to become "The Next Big Thing"? And make millions of dollars? Or do the scam 100s of photographers to upload to their sites and make money off them before they reach their first payout and then fold?

Not so sure I'd be dumping micros for Alamy. I saw quite a few posts over there that $1 per image per year is a good rule of thumb for earnings. I'm sure a lot of people make more but that's not real promising if that's accurate. It's also probably why submitters over there say you need a few thousand images to start seeing decent results. Micros seem to average about $1 per image per month. I've been thinking about just this situation. I was focusing a lot of energy uploading to Photoshelter and Alamy for awhile, giving them some of my best shots, but then Photoshelter went down and there have been no sales on Alamy for months. So what makes sense? I should be focusing my best efforts on the agencies that are making me money NOW, which is IS mainly and DT, FT and SS secondarily. I will continue to upload photos to Alamy to build a portfolio there when I have the extra time or inclination.

I think mostly I'm excited by the prospect of learning from this experience and seeing my skills behind the lens grow. And if it ever generates some money, then so much the better! And if not, I still enjoy photography as a hobby. I have learned SO MUCH since I started uploading. I also work full time so don't rely on the microstock income. It's more like getting a raise for me right now and the growth in downloads and microstock income has exceeded my expectations. You get back what you put into it I wish you much success.

Is anyone getting more refunds lately? I've had more and more lately . The most common reasons are duplicate download and accidental download. Accidental download??? How could that happen?
I've never had one. Sounds fishy. Have you contacted support or asked in the forum?

Hi Brett I am fairly new to microstock myself and also have never had any formal training in photography (but did take a lot of art classes in college). Have found that an eclectic approach works best. Check out my DT portfolio and you will see a variety of photos and graphics. Are there any other subjects besides landscapes that interest you?

The first Canon I bought was Powershot G7 10 mp (actually in my purse right now). LOVE the camera and still use it because it is so portable. All of the agencies I upload to will take the photos from this camera if I shoot at ISO 80 or 100. But the G10 has the RAW image recording that the G7 did not. Great high quality point and shoot.

Larry, I upload roughly 30 images per week on average. I currently have 4,135 images on BigStock. Can't remember the last time I got a rejection there, but must have been a couple of years ago. I wanna be you

Digital photography could overcome analogic photography because the difference was just the technology, not the final product. 3D offers a different product, more prone to replace illustration than photography and has a different feel, and, by the way, a feel that is very peculiar and prone to go up and down with fashion, or when public becomes tired of it.
From a person who works in advertising, my company would never use the 3D graphics for any campaign, straight photography only. Will people become bored with the little 3D stick men if they aren't already? The realistic 3D objects may do very well in the future, especially if you can't tell they are computer generated.

When I first started out, had a problem with the Adobe RGB color profile because when I uploaded my files to every site but IS (which uses sRGB CP), the colors looked very dull and washed out. So I switched the default setting in the camera and CS3 to sRGB and now the photos look much better after uploading.

I have been some days without any sales (and views!!!) at StockXpert in the last batches uploaded. I use to have everyday sales... Anyone is experimenting something similar? StockXpert has tanked for me since they added Photos.com. Don't know if it is because I am a fairly new contributor with a smaller port or what? Also, I no longer get many rejections on uploads there. They take virtually everything, usually approved within a couple of hours. There is a thread in the StockXpert forum where many people are saying they are getting no views on newly uploaded images.

It is really easy to explain as it has been mentioned several times before in different threads. Their new terrible earning page shows only information several days old and is updated manually only once a day and not at all at weekends! So if you want to see your downloads, you must click on downloaded and choose the "old downloaded report" which is up-to-date and perfectly simple to read. Why would they implement something that is worse or slower than what they had before? Makes no sense.

Had a BME with BigStock in August. This month is looking to be one of the WME unless things pick up. It's so perplexing and depressing how these smaller sites can be so wildly inconsistent. The other weird thing that's happening at BigStock is that people viewing my portfolio dropped off dramatically in August and just about stopped completely in Sept. Weird stuff all around.

Could you elaborate on very "North American"? Are you referring perhaps to your scenics? Shots of US currency or something else altogether? Yes, American scenics, wildlife, plants and currency. I'm guessing I do better with IS because a lot more NAs buy their stock photography from this agency, for example, than the European FT, where I don't do nearly as well. DT also seems to have a lot of NA buyers based on the time of day the files are being downloaded. Does IS change the best match several times a year?

Just curious. Did you have lot of new recently approved images? Did it's your newer files who sold the best or the usual ones? I upload the 15 allotted number of images to IS every week and the photos that are selling well right now are the usual ones that are a bit unique in their category. I've been trying to figure out why IS is doing so much better (by a huge margin) than all the other sites and I think it is because I work as a professional graphic artist and just "get" IS and what they want. A lot of my stuff is very "North American" .

Was a little concerned at first about the search engine change but it appears to be helping me. Usually only have 1-2 downloads on a Sunday and already have 5 today Last Thur and Fri also good.

I have all my photos on my 500 GB external drive. When I transfer the photos to my computer, the Canon cameras automatically create folders with the month day and year and these are kept in the RAW folder. I have a folder for PSD files, a folder for artwork and graphics and a folder for the stock agencies by name. Mainly I get photos ready for IS and put them in a folder with the date for the week they are uploaded. These files also go to 6 other agencies. It is a good idea to have an extra backup drive handy. I use ProStockMaster to upload the files.
