i think you're doing really well! i've got just under 400 images on SS and only just starting cracking $100/month last month, after a year at it. I was pretty happy with myself too, lol. your work is lovely, keep going!

I have some regular sales with flood images (these images have private property in them that should be released), and Anzac Day images (I shot them generically so as to be global "remembrance/memorial day" type images. DT also pay a $5 bonus for "newsworthy" images, which may be the only money they make, but so far has helped contribute to my BME (got a few through that month).
I do see some sites allowing branded product as 'editorial' but i've had no success with that. Every site has a different rule as to what they determine to be "editorial"

is it not also an issue that you may be abrasive in one thread, and less so in another, but - just like in the real world - people don't wipe your slate clean each time. This happens here a lot, right? I do agree the total tally of + and - would be helpful, but i'm loath to ask Leaf to do more work.
edit: fixed spelling mistake, as pointed out - incorrectly! - by not-so-smartypants BT

yes, the ordering of keywords is a real pain. even more so if you use the indexing feature.

oh, you're right. except now they are reporting mine with 4 decimal places. I do hope I get all those half and quarter cents.

I've gotten a few emails lately that report a sale of eg, M or L for .27 which was pretty disturbing, but when i log in it appears this is my credits earned and not the sale price.
eh?

@ OP - To be frank, that sounds like a typical phishing email like all the others.
Phishing emails always:
* never address you by your name * create a panic by saying something is wrong with your account * set a deadline or something will happen * ask you to click a link
To prevent becoming a victim:
* check the URL by hoovering over the link in the email. It will show the true URL * never click a link in an email * always login via your own trusted website * delete the email (after forwarding it to the company - see below)
they also often contain hilarious spelling mistakes. like "hoovering", which is what my dogs do to food.

It's actually well known in farming circles that unhappy cows yield less milk.
I think that's why they used to pat us and give us an occasional tasty apple back in the early days.
that is true, but we have pastures.

From W3counter.com

I stand corrected. I'm amazed really. I thought the majority of people were still sitting at home on their 6 year old Dell PC running IE6 and not knowing any different.
I'm a mac user (iPhone, iPad, iMac, MacBookPro, i'd buy an Apple car if they made one), but I dislike Safari. I use Chrome. (despite my dislike for Google, I just like to use stuff that works) back OT, I have, for the first time, experienced what everyone has been whinging about. A hung upload process. ah well, what can we do? go and upload elsewhere I guess.

Good morning one and all,
This isn't something I've been briefed on, so I'll leave it to someone at HQ to explain why those particular figures are being shown, but it does strike me as rather odd that the Vetta rates and regular photo rates are exactly the same, which would incline me to think it's a simple copy & paste error, but I'm sure Lobo will be able to offer an official explanation shortly. "shortly".... just like how the Google situation was explained and resolved? let's face facts, there are more photographers on the planet than required, so we are reduced to "sweat shop" payrates. I know in the city I live in I face that every day. I lose jobs to newbies who undercut me (and end up working for $15/hour), I lose jobs to interns/students, I lose jobs to the owner's daughter who just got a "good" camera... I love what I do and that's why I tolerate being paid so poorly. dammit.

I love the idea that you can choose to make sister images (that are more step-sister-ish) exclusive, cos it's your sandbox

i'm not sure i could be bothered trying to work that out, as much as I love a good spreadsheet.... I admit I had a go at it, until I realised that # of sales wasn't necessarily right, and then I gave up when I realised how tough the calculations were. But in general I think Tues/Wed are my better days, but I'm happy to report I make sales every day and that makes me happy. I get the added bonus of making most of my sales while i sleep and that really feels good!

all seems well though? (apart from the lack of PP, which is a concern - 24 June, and nothing!)

but if that designer were to hire a photographer to get the shot(s) they need (if that's even possible) they'd pay a lot, lot more.

am I wrong in thinking that a little indie like me will do ok from this? if buyers move that slider to the $ section and my files are there... isn't there less competition? (provided my work is good enough)
edit: spelling

Being forced to watch a 15 minute video (following a 3 minute ad) to get the same info you could get in 30 seconds of reading text. If a 15 minute video equates to 30 seconds of reading, the video editor didn't do their job! A properly produced and edited video should give you all of the facts much faster than the average person reads
but I don't want to be dumbed down to 'average'. The craft of an elegantly worded sentence is lost when we let video take over.

the upload release through metadata is not working (it uploads but doesn't seem to get through to iS) so it's unlikely I could be bothered uploading new releases singly. no biggie, still only uploading sporadically to iS, waiting, like many, for some reason to have confidence in them.

yeah, I uploaded 6 all with the same model release, and 4 got through and 2 didn't, due to "incomplete model release". how very odd.

I can say for sure that most of the photos which do best in stock would come in marginially above those with focus faults in a camera club competition and winners of many photo competitions mostly wouldn't sell well as stock. It's a totally different mindset.
oh how very true! i've submitted plenty of stock-sister images to comps, only to see inferior quality images win. A valid point about Flickr too. It might take you a while to get your head around it but the skills you gain shooting stock are immense. Rejections make you better.

sorry Tom, really I mean bureaucracy. those people who make rules, in order to form committees, in order to pad our their days, in order to rack up overtime and longer service leave... then whine about staff cutbacks when the bloated public service finally gets noticed. (talking about Australia in particular but I'm sure it's similar everywhere)

ah ditto, have had MR rejections too, although oddly a few images got through and a few were flagged. * missing postcode, seriously! * and missing shootdate/description, which it was not. hmm, are they just getting a bit trigger happy? I recently had a spanish publication reject my invoice cos i'd put their address down incorrectly (which I just cutnpasted from their email footer), even though I emailed the bloody thing! Pedantic people ruin the fun of business. They should go where they belong: to government employment. [/rant]

ditto, although I do find it endearing to read the insults from non-English speakers, some are quite poetic.
