Cameras / Lenses / Re: Sony A900, 25mp full frame under $2500?« on: May 30, 2008, 18:29 »
Considering it has internal image stabilisation and Carl Zeiss compatibility, I would have trouble upgrading to the 5D unless there was something spectacular.
Mind you, the quality of the sensor is yet to be proven on the Sony I guess. I think a lot of us long time Canon owners are annoyed with the constant upgrading with minor changes to their models. All it seems to do is make your own gear worthless in a very short time. 455

I am fortunate to have not spent hours and hours uploading. 461

Trouble I have with IS is I cannot seem to build my portfolio. After 3 years I still only have 40 odd files. They seem to reject almost everything I send despite sales on those files at DT and SS.

Despite actively trying to build my SS portfolio by submitting, I have experienced 18 consecutive days of stagnant sales at SS. My sales have dropped to between 1 - 9 sales a day.
As of 12/05/2008 I had made $22.20 for the month. Anyone else experiencing this. 464
General Stock Discussion / Re: Harrington angrily predicts end of microstock« on: May 02, 2008, 19:56 »
he's a bit precious. all those so called pros are the same.
they need to realise they only survive with their sponsorship from camera companies because of all the sales made to amateurs and semi pros. without semi pros and amateurs canon and nikon would be dead, and so would the pros. 465
General Stock Discussion / Re: 2008 Microstock Goals - What are yours« on: May 02, 2008, 19:49 »
1. portfolio on SS and DT reaches 500 images. Statistically that should pay me $250 a month from each agency based on my current sales vs portfolio size.
2. $500 a month in sales by December 3. Enough cash generation to have paid for some decent lighting. 4. Move to full frame when the new 5D comes in and the price of the current 5D falls. 5. a decent lens paid for by microstock 6. acceptance rate at agencies raised from 55% to 75% 466
General Stock Discussion / Re: Floundering US economy...good or bad« on: May 02, 2008, 19:44 »
Both good and bad.
Good - means the Australian dollar is 95 cents compared to 50 cents years ago. That means we can buy camera gear at great prices. Bad - means the Australian dollar is 95 cents compared to 50 cents years ago. When the Aus Dollar was low, getting paid meant that you got almost double the money when you exchanged it to local currency. Good - micro may make some inroads against macro Bad - any cut in advertising budgets is likely to hurt everyone in this industry. Good - means that new markets are evolving in previously poor economies. Bad - US is still the major player in the capitalised world. When America hurts, everyone hurts. 467

General Stock Discussion / Re: The big names in microstock« on: April 30, 2008, 20:07 »
An amazing list, with some very showing results.
I am very much interested in the downloads per image thing. Currently mine is 4.92 downloads per image. So if I continued to only submit stuff I know will sell, with a portfolio of 3000 images that would be 14760. I have recently built my portfolio up to 286 images, so that list is very motivating. 469
General Stock Discussion / Re: You wanna know about what I have? Let me get it off my chest.« on: April 28, 2008, 23:07 »
Simple human nature. People feel rejected want to talk to someone. Especially someone who might have an answer. So I guess they are trying to come to terms with the frustration of their rejection, and want to share how bad it fells.
Others dwell on it internally and get all stressed. The value we could add is to suggest that this is simply the nature of the industry, and they will get over it eventually. Otherwise they will get frustrated and leave. 470

Leaf is just trying to assist people with making money. And, it helps if you want to go see a person's portfolio at a specific site. thanks for the clarification Maunger, and the invitation to leave since I don't agree with you 471

General Stock Discussion / Tips for real estate photography appreciated please!« on: April 28, 2008, 19:32 »
I have finally got my first real estate client and want to make the most of it. I intend to use my 30D and Sigma 10-20 and tripod.
I have a few good interior sellers as micro, but this is the first time I have ventured into client territory. Any business or photography tips would be appreciated. Dave 473

I have recently joined this mob. They are a few people that used to work for Scanpix and have establised this site in Norway.
I understand they have got funding from the Norwegian Government to assist in establishing the site. The main people are, Linda Lgreid Johannessen, Jan Ole Kjellesvig, Roger Bystrm. Cheers |
