« on: May 01, 2015, 11:35 »
unfortunately, Oringer is just a symptom, not THE problem.

He and SS are the final result of the whole boom/bust cycle of the post-internet stock industry, if it wasn't Oringer it would be the other 2-3 top agencies, nothing would change much, even Alamy slashed our fees, we're alone against all of the odds and totally at the mercy of greedy agencies that don't even treat us as respectable and loyal suppliers, we're all taken for granted, we'll never see our buyers face to face, we'll never set foot in a stock agency or shake their hands and have a chat together unless we pay ourself a trip to the biggest stock industry fairs and even so what do you expect ? the top sellers are maybe contributing for 0.1% of SS's archive, you won't be missed if you leave for greener pastures, just as nobody noticed Yuri's departure for Getty.

They are ALL the same!

"Loss aversion" refers to people's tendency to strongly prefer avoiding losses to acquiring gains, like playing a game of Monopoly - as soon as you get in the lead you'll start to worry more about losing what you've gained!

Greed? It's an addiction... possibly with a certain complex too, imho.
Anyways, DISLIKE!

Shutterstock is licensed, is on the list, and the authors do not have to worry.

Istock, Pond5, VideoHive not have a license for the H.264 / AVC, so the authors themselves have to buy licenses MPEG.LA  :(

THANKS for this valuable info!

Could the site update be the reason?

Hi, just a heads up that we updated the site today. Here's a list of some of the changes that might be relevant to you:

- Deprecated a (very) old version of the uploads page
- Added another thumbnail on Edit Item page (to be able to see the thumbnail as you edit the keywords)
- Added new version of Adobe Premiere plugin to www.pond5.com/adobe
- FTP downloads and FTP settings added to Preferences page
- It is now possible to search for an item-id and get directly to the item page
- Improved price help with downconversion (4k to HD)
- Improved language switching
- Decreased number of objects loaded during site generation (should improve render time slightly)
- ...and a lot of Search Engine Optimization fixes to improve search engine ranking

"Google first announced its impending changes back in February, giving webmasters nearly two months to make the changes necessary to keep their sites from disappearing from mobile search results, as well as a way to test whether their sites are mobile-friendly yet (and see why not, if they aren't).
But the update is still expected to cause a major ranking shake-up. "

Just wanted to welcome some positive changes at P5 that might bring some long waiting professionalism!  8)

CMO, CPO, VP of People, VP of Finance and some other top roles given to Ivy-League educated folks, just been announced. Congrats!

Let's hope VP of Sales will be appointed soon too!  :)

p.s. Thanks for all the minuses  :o  :o It is rather incredible to get them after giving compliments! :-X

Maybe they aren't mobile friendly because they have done research and there aren't enough customers BUYING with a mobile device.  ;)

It's not about that. Ranking in google search is at risk and therefore sales too!

"The algorithm will start favoring mobile-friendly websites ones with large text, easy-to-click links, and that resize to fit whatever screen they're viewed on and ranking them higher in search. Websites that aren't mobile-friendly will get demoted.
This change could be apocalyptic for millions of websites, which could suddenly find that they've lost their coveted ranking."

Time will tell...

I guess Top Tier does have mob version of their sites.
Mid and Low Earners, I have no idea.
It will be interesting to see the effect on sales from this change.

Checked a few low earner sites. Few of them are mobile responsive too.
Why not FT ?   :o

I am puzzled too about FT.

Page appears not mobile-friendly
- Text too small to read
- Links too close together
- Mobile viewport not set
- Content wider than screen

You guys need to step into the 21st century. Really. You can't keep hanging on to the past. If you ignore mobile technology you only will hurt yourself in the end.

Seriously!  I was beginning to wonder if I had logged on to an AARP  or pensioners forum!

Spot on...well said....lol!

While still puzzled why would anyone put disagree on SemmickPhoto web site being friendly post....
here are the stats on mobile expansion (attached)

Times are changing...pay attention to the apps in this infographs.

and this one

:-)

It looks like lots of people look at Facebook, weather, news, video, and play games on mobile and even buy from i-tunes. I still doubt that microstock sales on mobile are a very big proportion. maybe someday when phones get to the size of a laptop screen, but none of those infographics convince me of that yet. I suppose the sites could tell us the real answer, but somehow I doubt they will. The fact that some of the sites have made their sites mobile friendly mean that they think it is important though (or else they bought the hype or think it is necessary to sell themselves as a technology company).

I know...it would be super nice if sites would share stats on it.

You should improve mobile friendliness...

Excellent...thanks...
good to know that THIS particular page http://m.pond5.com/ shows well in google test. :-)

But original web site pages showing different score though:
- SS, VideoBlocks, iStock, Dreamstime, DepositPhotos, Alamy are friendly
- Fotolia, 123RF, Pond5, BigStockPhoto are NOT friendly.

Plus it looks like P5 Dev team is well aware of not-friendly status too! - http://www.pond5.com/community?forum=622&thread=43020745&lp=1

just saying...

p.s. thanks for all the minuses good fellas! ;-)

Off Topic / Google favoring mobile-friendly websites!

Google is making a major update to its mobile search algorithm that will change the order in which websites are ranked when users search for something from their phone.
Small businesses are generally seen at greater risk!

Meanwhile in America...

The business model of private prisons is to maximize the amount of people in America who are locked up-- not to rehabilitate or ultimately lower incarceration rates.
