StockXpert rejected me for the second time, this time with : Photos do not meet quality standards for stock

I was accepted at the other sites like Shutterstock and istock with the first try. So what is so different on Stockxpert?

So I'm wondering what is normal at Stockxpert.

gr Claudia

Accepted at first try... lucky me... but...

I'm training someone in my own studio, guiding her, looking over her pictures before submitting, already refused 3 time....!!!

I see no logic, especially considering she has been accepted at SS at first try and already selling well with a very moderate small port.

Adobe Stock / Re: Maximum number of keywords in FT
« on: March 29, 2008, 13:41 »
The 50 keyword limit isn't implemented as it should be (yet). With no count and no memory of previous inputs, the applet is a nerver-killer. I always have to manually count the keywords and it's NOT pleasant. Hell, I even have to enter the name and the categories again if my IPTC is too big;/ Over and over again...

p.s.: As far as I'm concerned, Shutterstock's uploading is a thousand times better. And Crestock's way is good too (even if the IPTC data gets randomly "shortened" to 50 keys).

Actually, there is an easy and fast way to check the number of keywords.
When introduced into photoshop, copy and paste to microsoft word, or directly type your keywords into microsoft word.
Go to top menu, extra/count words... et voila...:-)
And, the additional benefit, spell check in microsoft word is done automatically.

Patrick.

ps : imo 30 keywords can describe every picture acurately.  I usually end up between 20 and 40... rarely i have a picture where to add more than 40.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Isolating objets
« on: March 29, 2008, 13:35 »
Even though I prefer to see one with a shadow, a TRUE isolation has none.  From what I understand, you cannot call it an isolation with a shadow.

You are right but from the sales point of view, what do you think buyers prefeer?

Both do well for me.
I always photograph on a white reflective surface, sometimes i remove reflection, sometimes not.  In eather way, both techniques seem to please designers. So for me : undecided.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: too feathered or too rough rejection
« on: March 29, 2008, 13:33 »
The pen tool might be good, the best to isolate, but imo if gives too much sharp edges.

Consider this, when you photograph over whte (studio setup conditions) the edges will look smoot/natural.
Using the pen tool gives too sharp/unnatural looking edges.
Better to have it straight in camere, work a bit longer on background/light setup and then in photoshop use the dodge tool at about 30 %... looks 100 % better.

123RF / Re: How are sales today at 123?
« on: March 29, 2008, 13:30 »
Dropping month after month.
Two years ago 150-200 dollar a month was no exception, now i praise myself lucky if i reach 50 dollar a month, despite the growth of my port with more than 2000 high quality/high resolution pictures.

Bigstock.com / Re: Vectors or Raster for Bigstock?
« on: March 29, 2008, 13:28 »
Hi,

You can submit both, under condition you only submit just one file format, or AI/EPS or jpg format.
If submitting the AI or EPS format the site makes the jpg available for download to.
Submitting both AI/EPS and jpg format is a waste of time for both you and reviewers.
When submitting the jpg format be sure not to use the vector word in title, description and keywords.

Conclusion : you're better of submiting the AI/EPS format because you can use the keyword vector (more visibiblity in search), and in the same time possible sale of a jpg format extracted from the vector.

what happens when you submit exclusive photo to DT?

I dont have any excl. images at DT. Is it true that they pay you 2$ if they accept the image? What about % of payment per sale?

You get a few addition dollar cents every now and then...nothing more... not even worht the butter on your bread.

CanStockPhoto.com / Re: Closing Account (not so easy)
« on: March 25, 2008, 19:00 »
Last time I tried to close my account at Canstock - it seems that you have to delete all of the images yourself - and  you have to do it one by one - certainly not made easy!!

Bigstock has showing a steady decrease in download for about 5 months ... don't know what is going on over there... despite the constant growth of high quality/resolution pictures from my side.

Shutterstock.com / Re: Shutterstock One-Day Subscription
« on: March 25, 2008, 18:54 »
I hardly think the fact they pay in dollars is pissing anyone off.  They are a US company after all.

Don't all the sites pay in dollars - even the ones headquartered in other countries?  What's so different about Shutterstock doing that?

The conversion rates...  way things are going now on some sites they are earning on our back...
For you Americans a dollar is a dollar... for us europeans a dollar has decreased 25 % in value compared to same period past year..... and on 1000 dollar that is 250 dollar, meaning 160 euro less for us.

While at the same time for us the cost of living  keeps increasing... etc... with almost no return/increase because of the dollar.

So, if charging in euro,  pay europeans in euro, fair deal.

New Sites - General / Re: Pixburger, new in europe
« on: March 25, 2008, 18:37 »
Hello,
for the people who can understand some French, a new microstock agency has just opened. We heard about it for months in France, and finally opened.
It's in beta, and only readable in french for now, but you can already do the indexation in English and send files by FTP, the system works with iptc/xmp data, and translation is done by the search engine.
The currency is euro :)

Pixburger belongs an european group: Fotovista (Pixmania, Foci..., 1200 employees, 6 million customers...) and  I am sure they will do it well. Both stock and editorial can be sold.
The website really gives a professionnal feeling and has very interesting features.
Photographer Royalties are 40%. Prices are 1 credit for lowres, 5 for highres, 49 for extended and 99 for one year exclusivity and editorial. This sounds interesting to me.

In case you want to use it for registration, I propose you my referal number  : 10043.
Have a look here : Pixburger.com, what do you think about that new place ?
Laurent

Another needle in the hay stack... do they have plans to stick out.?.. being noticed...?..
If not, another looser where almost 70 % will jump on, make sales for the site but little to nothing for the photog/individual.  And then after a year or so another stock sites will be bashed on the forum for not delivering.  Save your self the time and do not join.. simple.

If i really want to make money in no time, i start a stock site, make the best interface, iptc data retreaval on ftp upload, have some naive persons promote me on independant forum, spend a few months on advertising and then go bankrupt, run with the money...

Stop being naive, the stock site are there, not a single new one will and can deliver, compete with the excisiting ones.

Or, another way is to refer a lot, a lot of members/referals in the hope to get something.

If they are going to add a tier above the 500 dl  threshold they already have then the higher producers should get at least .40.  And a minimum of .35 for everyone over 500.

I must admit I will be disappointed if the raise is only a nickel after the substantial raise in their prices...

Totally agree.
Long time submitters/photogs should get at least some extra for their loyalty to the site.  And before the vector illustrators jump in with complaints, on most sites you guys are already getting more than photographers.  Oh where were the days that it was all about photography, jpg files to be uploaded.

General Stock Discussion / For non americans...:-)
« on: March 21, 2008, 04:45 »
Hi,

I was going over my spreadsheets from past and this year yesterday evening.
I couldn't go past the fact that lateley the value of our pictures devaluated by about 22 % compared to past year (around same period) mainly due to the increasingly dropping value of the dollar.

The fact that subscription sales on some sites where you can not opt out are increasing which also leads to lesser income per picture doesn't really contribute to the growth and our motivation.

With a portfolio growht with about 150 % over the year and just about an increase of income around 45 % i was wondering how much more we need to produce/upload to stay in the game, to keep it profitable for our time...?..

Any other thoughts.?..

Dreamstime.com / Re: Sub Sales Poll at Dreamstime
« on: March 07, 2008, 13:35 »
Needless to say nobody likes sub sales at certain sites... especially not  when the Return Per Download decreased to 0.67 $...

Patrick.

466
Here is a trick to have your account deleted at the sites you want... buy some credits, download/purchase pictures from those sites.
Then upload them as your own, and as soon as they are accepted start bragging in each forum on how good your pictures are, post excamples... i'm sure someone will find/see his own pictures and report you to support... and eventually your account will be suspended...:-)..

Isn't that a good and very effective methode...lol..

Adobe Stock / Re: Eureka! Image Titles work
« on: March 06, 2008, 05:47 »
Yup...

Finally the correct data in the correct field... :-)
But in fixing that they apparantly broke something else.... Sales dropped by almost 50 % since that update... could be a coincidence, never the less, strange.

Site is now down for maintenance, let's see if sales pick up back after this update.

Dreamstime.com / Re: DT subs model
« on: February 27, 2008, 02:47 »
I will guess that it will be locked once DT gets up in the morning.
Since sub images seem to be downloaded for comps and most aren't actually used, it's a good suggestion to exclude the larger sizes from sub sales.

Hi Hugo,

I find this a bizar statement.. why..?..

If the subs are used for comp mostly, than why are 95 % of my subs sales maximum size.?..
No no and no, subs are for every use.

Patrick.

469
Too much... on 11 downloads, 9 subscription, all maximum size.
The subscriptions devalue our picture.
Despite having almost 1500 pictures more in my port, i earned more past year same period.

19 days and counting.... strange however, they did some of several batches and then stopped... so 19 days and counting.

I have stayed away from the forums for a while but I still like to hear what people have to say.

Here's my two cents:

I have come to hate subscriptions - they devour photos and hero images have to be really amazing and unique.  When I get the opportunity to do so, I will move away from that and go exclusive.  Not yet however.

I have much to comment about but it isn't really relevant to this thread - the one last thing would be that developing your own style of photography and separating yourself from the rest of the field (whether through in-camera skills or through magical photoshop techniques) will ensure you will have a great deal of success in the long-term.

Thanks,
Joseph

Couldn't agree more.
And these day you better learn to work with photoshop to get your pictures accepted.

As for the topic, i'm undecided... but on sides where a choice is given i opt out.

Off Topic / Re: is this considered alcohol abuse???????
« on: January 11, 2008, 17:40 »
I needed to use a stein of beer for some images.  In order for the light to work I had to do them during the day, well before the sun was "over the yard arm", thus I didn't feel right in drinking it, so I poured it out when I was done.  Now I am wondering.  Was that alcohol abuse?

rosta

Only if you did between 13.00 and 17.00 pm..:-)

I prefer a natural look with minor editing.

Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia, Then and Now.
« on: January 06, 2008, 17:28 »
Well,

Mixed result what i'm reading here.

For me, fotolia is now fighting with SS for best selling site.... strange because after the revamp i had hardly any sales, hardly any views and somewhere along the road this changed over night.

Two months in a row both sold extremely well, by just a slight difference of 2 dollar... fotolia second place, this month seems to be giving same results.

Site Related / Re: StockXpert nightmare
« on: January 06, 2008, 12:40 »
I haven't been uploading there for months due to the same problems.

About 2 months ago i restarted uploading and until 4 days ago there weren't any problems, just the occasional reject... and then, mass rejections.

I was in the process of updating my gallery over there with the picture also submitted on other sites.

But i have the strong feeling they won't be seeing any more from me until this issue is solved and handled properly.

ps : even Laurin Rinder is a victim of them, whole batches rejected, just read it on another forum.
