Can anyone say what they get for a standard Canva sale through Getty? On Canva there are 3 tiers, normal common 1$ sales for which Canva pays .35 uncommon 10$ sales for which they pay $3.50 and almost non-existent $100 sales which they pay $35.
I am curious what a sale through Getty makes the artist.

I have to go back to May 2007 to find a worse month. I had about 250 images then (less at the start of the month, a few more at the end). The downward trend since ~2012 for me seems to be accelerating.

I have single uses mainly $1, some 90c and a few $1.40 - for which I got paid 35c each. Then I have (had!!!) multi use ones $10, I got $3.50. Nothing else....
If I were you, I would write to them and ask. They do at least have a fairly responsive support team....
The $1.40 sales with 35c payout I guess shows they aren't doing 35% anymore. Did they announce anything about this?
My understanding was that this was for a non dollar currency and the value was approximately one dollar so we still get .35 (I only read that somewhere, and can not vouch for it being actually true) In other news it has been months since I got anything more than .35 per sale although last year I got a fair number of 3.50 and even a few $35 sales. My old reliable sellers have only sold a few times this month (as opposed to nearly every day in the past) and the images that were part of a pre-made image haven't sold at all this month and the last one was May 5th.

sadly my month is looking pretty weak too. DT was running even with SS for a while this month but SS has pulled ahead - of course it used to be 6 times DT, not less than twice.

I think I had 2 self portraits in my last submission - one was an old one - before 50, one was more recent - over 50. Both had the same model release, except one was submitted as under 50 and one was submitted more recently for over 50. They accepted the more recent and rejected the older one. It is completely ridiculous to not accept one self portrait model release, if you sue yourself for submitting a photo you took of yourself, you are not going to get very far.
I think they have rejected nearly every one of my other older previously accepted model releases for about a year. If anything new sold I'd maybe try to get a new model release for them, but as it is - they are accepted at other sites.

I don't know much about video sales since they are very rare for me, but photo sales have been sad for a while and are pretty lame this month. I also notched up my first 0 sales weekday yesterday. I've had a few 0 sales days on weekends in the last few years and in my first months, but not on a weekday. Maybe not ever since I got my first 7 accepted, certainly not since I had more than 20 or so accepted.

I would say that if you are doing microstock to market yourself for contract work you are doing it wrong.
I have no idea if unsplash is a good way to market yourself. I certainly wouldn't suggest sending full or even high resolution images there.

My main strategy for "retirement" is learning to live cheaply. When I finished grad school I didn't really change my lifestyle when I got a real job except I bought and lived in a duplex and rented the other side out and rented both sides out when I moved for work. Then I lost my job and lived in my truck for 14 years (lots of opportunity for cheap living there). That is when I started microstock. I wish I had taken it more seriously in the early years when new uploads and hard work actually produced a noticeable return, but I was mostly having fun. Then I bought an old church with the money I had saved from working back in the day plus rental income and spent a year fixing it up into my current home. As long as health care costs don't go through the roof for me, I figure I can keep on keeping on until I die. I have some old Roth IRAs from when I was working and in a general year spend less than I make. The cost of doing without is the same everywhere - but I am rich in experience and free time and manage to do most of what I really want to do. My life is much much better than when I was working full time although I am not as fiscally solid as I was then. I live in a paid off house in a place I love and am in essence retired already.

A while ago SS determined that a company producing calendars was using images with a regular license that should have had an EL. I have no idea if the company paid more than EL license fees, but I got an EL sale for an image that they had used (back when EL meant $28 for the contributor).
If you are going to lose a lot of sleep over potential fraudulent uses then microstock is not the place for you. If it has never been for sale on microstock and a big company based somewhere that gives more than lip service to intellectual property is using it then good luck, you might actually get something from them.

Looking back, I've gotten several of these $1.50 sales. Here was the response...
"These earnings are generated from downloads on a new footage marketplace that reaches an audience of millions who have never bought traditional stock footage before. These customers will have a very limited license to use the footage clips; clips will be licensed for use on a single platform to produce short-form digital content. Since the license is very limited, the 30% earnings is lower than what you are used to receiving from the core Shutterstock collection. These clips are still available for licensing on Shutterstock.com, so this additional income is incremental to the value your clips can earn on Shutterstock.com under the broader licenses granted from our website."
So if the use is more limited they pay us a lower percentage? I don't see them paying a higher percentage for sensitive use or extended print runs. I wonder if they can even hear what they are saying.
Lol, they don't pay lower percentage, sellling price is lower, hence the 30% of the lower price is also lower.
Since the license is very limited, the 30% earnings is lower
I only got 30% on my reading comprehension on that one. oops.

wow, I am quite curious how many sales that can generate - or how many above just a few variations would sell. If the keywords are actually different then they might not appear to spam actual search results. It is surprising that this is allowed though.

Sales were decent for a while after our percentage dropped, but maybe flat or somewhat down, then they fell off a cliff and then they lowered our take again and then because the sales were so lousy dropped my percentage even more so I stopped uploading.
They were doing ok, and then went downhill a lot and then went downhill more.

If it helps stop bulk upload of poorly titled and keyworded images I'm all in.
I suspect it is to help their "world class industry leading machine learning AI" work better.

At 250 sales/month (which I don't know how they will limit it to that, but that is another story) we would get 0.0259 per sale. There would have to be around 18 sub sales per month for us to get the 0.35 we get now.

Just remember this is a site with a proven record of screwing contributors. Sure you might make good money, or maybe you will contribute to lowering prices or maybe put a lot of effort into it and they will boot you out one day.

The details are what really matters - and they haven't told us any of them. I replied that 0.35 every time someone uses my image is fine, or some percentage of the sub price every time a user looks at an image (like spotify or Netflix).
They had a new model and were actually somewhat exciting (in the real meaning of the word). Since the Getty deal and now this they are more "exciting" in the microstock meaning.
I fear I'll be deleting my port there.

Thanks for the report. It does sound like a lot of words that don't really say anything (to me).
It would be interesting to have a mixed investor and artist presentation since they are almost saying the opposite thing to each group.
On a side note. I keep getting ads for SS custom content on facebook (proof their AI still sucks) and looking at the comments it sounds like they charge 25-30K for this service. I guess 20% trickles down to the photographer that "wins". Still a decent chunk of change, but what do you have to do to get it (and how much more could/would you do for 25-30K than for 5-6K). I wish SS would just give me however much facebook charges to show me these ads.

Legally, the model release covers it. If you have images of family members or friends or just don't want to deal with the hassle of a model that is pissed, you might want to opt out.

As I understand it, those are sales that are not US$ - so it might be some currency that is worth 18 to the US$ but they report it this way. I sure hope so. It has been a while since I got more than 0.35 for a sale there.

For me the time to stop uploading was when they introduced the RC system. Time to start deleting was a few years later.
Sure, you will make more than 0 money there, but you are contributing to the market paying less and less percent to the artists. We all have lines where we won't take it any more. Getty/Istock crossed that line for me. I strongly suspect that I would have made more $ if I left my stuff up and added more, but I also would have had to live with myself, and it wasn't enough money for that.
