iStockPhoto.com / Re: The neglected images
« on: January 25, 2007, 06:14 »
why dont you host a lightbox.  set some loose rules.  no more than 10DL?? and less than 5?? ratings.  We can send you links and you can add them.  We can then go look at the photos all in one place and rate if we think they are worthy.  they then drop out of the light box after 6 months (not sure if this statistic is avaliable though?.

NOt so much a lightbox to get sales but one to showcase forgot photos in the hope that someone thinks they are worthy or a rating.

Software - General / Re: Microsoft Release New Photo Info tool
« on: January 24, 2007, 07:02 »
This also means that your JPG is going to get re-compressed after making changes thus creating more noise prior to submission to the micros.  The re-compression does not affect the keywords on a jpg image.
I thought the specs said it doesn't affect the image with jpeg.  I know pixvue doens't.  Will have to run some tests.

Anyone checked to see if the sites accept the date.  I had a 5 - 10% fail rate with pixvue.

Is this just a windows version of pixvue?  Does it have all you need for ITPC for microstock?

Cameras / Lenses / Re: New canon camera rumors
« on: January 23, 2007, 11:06 »
only the 1 bodies have weathersealing in the digital line up.  Would be good on the 5D as a lot of pros would use it as a back up or good for a travel camera since smaller.  Since you effectively have to use L lens on the 5D it makes more sense than the other cameras where people may only use consumer lenses.

One of the other companies has weathersealing on its 30D competitor (or was it a 400D competitor) so maying in a couple of years, it might be on all cameras.

Weathersealing is one of my wishlist items for the "40D" (I dont think I want a 5D) along with better autofocus (can always be better) and better Dynamic range (can always be better).  Cant think of much else the way I currently use my camera.

And i have to get on shutterstock as everyone is saying its one of the best.. just need more hours in the day ( i work on a truck 12 hours per day!!!) still a big thanks to everyone for there help and comments its really great to get feedback!

If you want to make money out of microstock get onto Shutterstock.  Stop submitting to the other agencies and pick your ten best and apply for your approval to submit photos.  Shutterstock is not a site to add to when you get time, IT IS THE SITE to upload to first - for most people it is 20-50% of income. Note they are strict so make sure they have no noise.  Then start submitting to the others again.  Once you get approved, forget about the others so that you can catch up and get all your shots up on SS.  You will be surprised how quickly the Dl start coming.

Once you are on all the sites. get yourself a good process.  Use ITPC so that you dont have to retype every thing for each site.  Use FTP so you can set it to upload to all the sites while you are driving your truck.  If you dont know the software to do this, IM me - it is all freeware so it is free.

If you want to retire to a life of microstock on the spanish coast (or was it Italy you were going to move to?), get on Shutterstock , get yourself a simple process and make it happen.

You will be suprised and will hit yourself that you haven't signed up earlier.

Featurepics.com / Re: Anyone selling at Featurepics?
« on: January 23, 2007, 06:56 »
I have received a payout - quick, paypal and only a $50 limit.

I only get a few sales a month but with the 70% commission, it definately pays of being there.

They are definately a site everyone should support.  If there volumn of sales increased to big 6 levels, they would probably be a top earner for most people due to high commission.

If your not there, get on there now.  I can be bother giving my link so follow one leafs link to your right (help support the site).

123rf and Featurepics are better than Canstock for me plus one has a bigger backer and the other gives good commission.

I would sneak FP up there anyway just to promote them even if you dont think they make the cut.

Although Paypal sucks ...
Other than countries that dont allow paypal, what is wrong with it.  I dont have any issues with it.  Money goes in money goes out all at no cost.  i have to transfer from USD to another currency and I am not sure what their forex rate is but other than that, it is totally free and a lot easier than chq.

Leaf -  the internet isn't about making money, it is about page views.

Well that is one view anyway (esp during the internet bubble).

Off Topic / Re: Unlimited backup for $5.00
« on: December 20, 2006, 12:35 »
I am considering it too.  As some stage, i am going to have to frieght my hard drives from the UK to NZ (my home country) and at that stage, it would be good to have an external backup.

Also means that I might be able to do away with externals and just use the backed up info and my laptop?  Willl have to consider this one further and see how their system works.

They look ligit.  Good references - one of the PC mags and the WSJ.

I guess as long as they dont go belly up, there will be no problems.  if they try to up the price, then you decide whether to go out and get that 10TB Raid5 set up or just continue using them.

i wonder how it works with external drives as I currently have to much stuff for the small drive on my laptop.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Uploading at IStock
« on: December 19, 2006, 06:28 »
you can use the imagemanager which is a software program (I think there is a stickie in the istock forum about it) or you can use multiple windows to upload more at once.

Yes they are worth it.  they are strict on the technical requirements.

Select your best photos (technically) on a variety of subjects.  Post them on a forum first to get comments.

I think they have just caught the Google Beta craze.  Not sure what you would call significant but here are the ten main new features (apparently):

But couldn't they just incorporate that into CS3.

Isn't Lightroom just Bridge with Raw (maybe a few extra things but why not incorporate into CS3 rather than bring out a new program).

Not arguing with you, I just fail to see what this extra program adds that they couldn't have incorporated into CS3.  The only think I can think of is that is only a small part and theirfore should run quicker?  Maybe I dont understand what bridge does and why Lightroom is different (not just better as if better it should be included in cs3).  I have only use Lightroom (as a short trial) and Elements 3 which doens't have anthink like bridget I dont think)

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock troubled waters my opinion
« on: December 15, 2006, 09:15 »
Istock will only accept its own.
It will accept a generic one as long as it includes all the information that they require.  Most people I think just remove the istock logo, then use that MR for all sites, since it encompasses all terms included in any of the other sites MR>

« on: December 15, 2006, 09:12 »
ooohh i might have to download it and give it a try.

Yeah i am sorta wondering what lightroom is for as well.  Either they should make lightroom a better digital management software including all it does now, or incorporate it into bridge or photoshop or something... right now they have so many programs it would be nice to consolidate them a bit.

On the other hand, i do sure like using lightroom to print.  It goes SO quickly.
CS3 has improved print which should be to atleast the standard of lightroom (since it is newer).  So what does lightroom actually do which is different?

It is out is beta.  Sounds good.  I have been holding off as I didn't want to spend the money and I didn't think I would use the features but I may get it once they bring out the final release.

My question is this though.  With its increases Raw capabilities (all the good bits from lightroom) and with Bridge,  what is Lightroom for.  It appears to me is redundant?

Second question: has anyone tried the beta?

Currency is always a dodgy area.  It is "illegal" to reproduce currency in any way in most countries.  This is not a copywrite thing but a government statute.

The degree of reproducing is how they use to deal with it (ie. no full frontal) but obviously they have gotten stricter.

I would send a site mail asking for consistancy.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Hello! And a few questions ;-)
« on: December 12, 2006, 08:33 »
I would try stockxpert.  income is good and uploading is simple.

I would also add 123RF as they are easy to upload to - sales not as good. about same as BS for me.

The others aren't worth it unless you really want to add another.  Maybe Featurepics - sales aren't great but they are a site everyone wants to do well since they pay a good commission.

I haven't tryed Alamy so cant comment.

How did you choose the 5 photos?
Are they part of a larger series which will go to all sites?  Are they all similar or a variety?
Is 5 photos a big enough sample (especially for buy out) to determine if it is worthwhile?
What brought this on?
