Shutterstock.com / Re: How do I delete images on Shutterstock?
« on: September 19, 2019, 10:15 »
I have gone to my portfolio, I hover over the image to delete, select the pencil (edit), then click the trash can. The box where the image is goes white. But there is no other feedback as to if that image has been deleted.

Also, where can I see how many total images I have in my portfolio? Yeah, they have really effed their site up.
Thanks in advance.
EDIT: never mind figured out the deleting part. Had to log in under username instead of email. still don't know total in my port, will keep looking.  >:(
EDIT: never mind, found that too. In the catalog manager, left column.

And just so you don't think you are crazy, I did some in the past, and they would be gone and if I refreshed the page, come back. Go away and login a minute later, they were all gone. It's a matter of what server of many and where, that you are accessing. The site is not instant, everywhere, all at once. Can take 15 minutes to an hour, for everywhere in the world to be in sync.

I was deleting images that had the wrong keywords so I could upload them again, properly.

Thanks for confirming I am not crazy. 😄 Yes, they have a message that says they might not disappear immediately. I figured it would depend on server refresh. I just got a payout, but I already have some sales. Guess I will be leaving a little money on the table for them,

I didn't read that as leaving, just deleting files. If you wanted to close your account and get all the money, you have to ask them to close the account, after which you would get all the money. Then they would delete all the files for you, along with your account.

Or maybe I didn't understand? By going that way, all you would have to do is ask them to close your account and then at the end of that month they would pay you anything left. Maybe you can still get the last bits.

Yes, I am leaving them. I know I could close my account that way, but I feel better deleting the images myself, then I will ask them to close my account. I know its stupid, because they are so unscrupulous, with the way they have allowed pirates to steal images, and all the other stuff. The horse is already out of the barn. I will just pretend I am in control of my own images. 🤬
You can opt out of sales while you are doing it. Theres also this "You may remove Content from your account at any time, provided that in any ninety (90) day period, you remove no more than (i) 100 items of Content; and (ii) 10% of your Content, whichever is greater. So you may want to make sure you have received your final payment before deleting the lot ;-).

Shutterstock now has that rule, too? I know Dreamstime has something like that, didnt know SS did. But then I havent been keeping up. In any case, it wont be an issue. Not many sales there now anyway.

I did the same thing, and they did pay me the final payment. So hopefully they will send you yours.

hmmm yeah - it looks like maybe I can only delete posts - seems strange than I can't pick who can remove posts.  You all can approve good posts however when you see them.

I had a feeling that might be the case. We can help wherever we can.

Got mine today! Ha ha! Just kidding! Im a worthless illustrator!

You are starting to sound like a broken record.

And yes, it totally sucks that Adobe does not respect your effort and acknowledge illustrators.

The squeaky wheel gets the grease.  ;D

Shutterstock.com / Re: Adjustment tab?
« on: September 05, 2019, 15:58 »
Maybe it only shows if you HAD adjustments.

Mine only shows two.  One return and one addition.  They both sort of cancel each other out.
Yeah, maybe the tab only shows when you have an adjustment. In your case, Probably the buyer bought the wrong license accidentally, hence the + and
Yebbut they are different images.
Plus one is almost two years older than the other.

Still could be adjustments for mistakes in license purchase.

When I was buying stock, I would do that on occasion. I would forget to change the setting before hitting the buy button. A call to support would correct the problem. Hopefully its not to keep track of clawbacks.

My experience is that promoting stock video through YouTube attracts people looking for free footage.

same, I have tried for a while uplaoding low res watermarked files. It proved a disaster and a waste of time.
Plus youtube canceled my bulk uploads, there are limitations and finally i was banned for manipulation (my fault though...)
Perhaps, uploading a reel every 3-6-12 months or promotional clips or something would help. I dunno. Tired of "self" promoting.

@StockDaebak, you can download xampp and wordpress (easy to install and learn) and start making an offline site with all your work in it.
You will have a great offline catalogue of your work and if everything else fails, you can publish it live and start selling, or at least try to sell
:)

You make it sound easy. Trust me, its not, and I have a background in web. If someone has no experience with wordpress/html, it will take hours and hours and hours of building the site. And then you have marketing/selling. Not that it cant be done. Of course anyone can learn. But most photographers want to be out shooting, not stuck behind a computer 24/7. Just wait until the first wordpress upgrade that breaks your site, and the hours of troubleshooting it takes to get it working again. Been there numerous times.

Pond5 / Re: Pond5 will remove ability to set prices?
« on: August 30, 2019, 10:54 »
Well now it will be interesting to see what happens since pond5 lost all respect and trust of contributors due to their sneaky search price cap, changing our prices behind our backs and the clauses in the new agreement which allow them to do whatever they want including giving out content away for free in promotions etc.

I suspect everyone who sells on multiple sites will do the following and not limited to these steps:

Use Firefox with fairly strict cookie/security settings, use the Ublock origin plugin to limit how much they can track us when we use the site (all sites track us right down to our machine, browser and IP ID's btw).

Use a VPN or TOR over VPN to mask out true locations and IP address

Use different paypal accounts and email accounts and usernames for each site.

Prepare the clips a little differently for each site.

We need to match the ethics of these agencies, I'm sorry, time to return the favors and treat them with as much respect as they treat us.

Come on!, professional hackers would laugh at our inability to cover our identities and foil stuff like this.

Disclaimer:

Not advocating doing anything illegal but just matching the startup culture's ethics, they all push the limits, not just in stock, food delivery, ride sharing and more,  why are we these nice guys and girls who are constantly finishing last?.  Timesup!

A much simpler method would be to just stop doing business with companies that abuse you.

This one seems suspicious:-

https://www.shutterstock.com/image-photo/airplane-crash-foggy-weather-1098082550?src=14IdjKBdgRgmqxkdLAF9GQ-1-1

Has an odd (very good) mix of images combined with bad captioning and the odd weird photoshop.

The chances of this guy getting this one plane photos, uploading no others etc is slim.  I cant decide if its another fake or not but its suspicious.

To me it looks like a 3D rendering.

...Wow, quite the negative attitude. Maybe thats the problem...

You should learn a little of the history before you start making rash judgments of people who have already done a version of what you're asking about.

A negative attitude was not the problem. I've been part of two prior efforts, Symbiostock (common search across a network of independent artist sites) and WarmPicture (a coop).

There are two things that'd I would want from any cooperative/own site setup and the biggest is marketing the sites to image buyers - without that nothing else matters. The other is some assurance that the underlying technology will be around a while and maintained.

Having a thin skin when you get questions from prospective site owners isn't a good start - a volatile leader of a project doesn't inspire confidence in my second must-have (longevity).

I was a part of those same two efforts.

Theres a whole section here SuperPhoto ... Selling Stock Direct ... like I said, about once a month someone thinks it will work. Maybe peruse that section, you will likely get a lot of insight.

I know. If its a topic, you can at least approve it then hurry up and send it to the garbage bin. But posts cant be deleted. I cant figure out why there is a moderate feature at all, if you cant delete stuff. Pretty weird.

492
What was wrong is that buyers dont care about looking at an individuals site.  Those that have niche content that is very valuable already have a way to sell.

OKay - so what you are saying is you'd need marketing?

For niche content sellers - do you know what ways they sell?

No, hes spreading feces on it, too! Talk to him like hes nothing,  like you did to me.

I really put some effort into my new summer images but only a few sales so far. The good news is that my Christmas images are selling like hot cakes, don't ask why. Is there a Christmas season somewhere in the world at the moment? :D

Most companies prepare for the seasons months before the actual season. Magazines are likely already planning their Christmas issues now.

I approved them then was going to send them to the garbage bin. Apparently you were deleting the same time as I was approving. 😀 Its 3am here on the east coast, I am listening to a broadcast of woodstock, as it was recorded 50 years ago, so figured i would do it now, thinking not many would be around. The moderate feature doesnt have a delete button. There were 6 topics that i approved, so all 6 should have been able to have been deleted. If one went to a post, thats another bug.

I checked the site late in the evening (I'm on the West coast, so 3 hours behind) and saw spam posts on the home page. I just went ahead and moved them as there is no way to see they were in the process of moderation (as it were). I guess someone's always up somewhere around the globe :)

I moved 7 - plus there was the reply I couldn't do anything about.

I think the solution is to be able to delete versus approve+garbage bin. Failing that, can there be a list of moderator actions with dates/times that we can all see - perhaps just the last 20 or so - so one person can know that another moderator is handling things?

Yes, that all sounds good. Even just a red light with delete, underneath the green light/ approve would be helpful.

Somehow there was another rash of spam posts - I moved to the Garbage Bin. The account was created August 12th, so how did they get to post without moderator approval? A total of 8 posts in the account stats.

There was one reply I can't do anything about:

https://www.microstockgroup.com/newby-discussion/workflow-tools/msg537122/#msg537122

And can Leaf ban the user?

If its a topic, wonder if we can just approve it, then immediately move it to the garbage.

That works, but my question is, when someone adds to an existing thread, how do I remove the spam post and not move the entire thread. Move Topic to Garbage is the only option I see, not delete the offending post. Is there a way to trash just one message?

No, but I wish there was. So far, only Leaf can do that, I think.
