Thanks for the tip Sean. I'll add that to my model release.

iStockPhoto.com / Model Release Nightmare
« on: September 18, 2012, 17:44 »
Not happy enough with being a nightmare to upload photos to, IS recently decided to give me an hard time with my model releases (that are accepted elsewhere). My images are being rejected with the following reason: "Please provide a model release with a meaningful and accurate shoot description. Thank you". What am I supposed to write in the release? That we drank a coffee just before the shoot and that I had to take a break one hour later to go to the toiled? Come on! This is a waste of time for everyone! Should I track down my models with new releases to sign, write down a "meaningful and accurate shoot description" and submit the files again so that they could go: "ohhh he took a piss during the shoot! Let's accept this image then."  :o

General Stock Discussion / Re: Hardware Performance
« on: September 14, 2012, 09:17 »
I have an 60Gb SSD and it made a HUGE difference in my system. I installed the operating system (OS), photoshop (and PS scratch disk) there and everything seems to fly. You don't need to buy a HUGE SSD. Just by one large enough to hold the OS, PS and the scratch disk and I think you will feel the difference.

But if you really want to boost performance, add more RAM and change the OS.
I have a slow CPU for today's standards (intel core 2 duo e6750). I used to run Windows Vista (32bits) and PS on 4Gb of RAM and it was so slow that I was always going crazy. I kept the CPU and RAM, bought a SSD drive and installed Windows 7 (64bits) and PS 64bits. It felt like I have a new and MUCH faster computer. I don't even feel the need to buy a new CPU.

I don't take out the commas. I submit to Alamy the same images I submit to other agencies. No troubles so far.

Software - General / Re: 32 bit or 64 bit software
« on: September 13, 2012, 04:14 »
ic..so a 32 bits will slow down on 64 bits system.. thanks!

It will not slow down. It just doesn't use the advantage that a 64bits system can give it. Like Dantheman said, a 64bits operating system can fully address 4Gb or RAM (or more) and a 32bits system cannot address 4Gb, even if that's what you have installed on or machine. For a photographer that uses memory demanding software like Photoshop, a 64bits operating system and a 64bits version of Photoshop should be the way to go. That and 4 (or more) Gb of RAM and a SSD drive as scratch disk will make it fly.

Anyone else noticing that Sundays (USA / Mondays for Australia) are selling really well lately?

Same here. Can't figure out why though.

PhotoDune / Re: Model Releases on PhotoDune - what to do?
« on: August 08, 2012, 10:06 »
The way I work it is a bit simpler. I upload all my images as normal and submit them. Then I get the rejection emails for the images without model releases. If you then go to Author's Dashboard and look in "Hidden", the rejected images are there. Click edit against each one, and you can first upload a model release in a zip file, but then use that same model release on all the others in the series. Add a note that you have added a model release, and resubmit. They go through OK after that.

I do the same. I don't understand why Photodune doesn't have an easier way to do this like all other sites (except IS) have.

Adobe Stock / Re: "Form Error"?
« on: May 29, 2012, 04:19 »
Yep. I'm getting that error for about a week now. The only way I can get over that is when I click and select both categories and the listboxes appear. If I select one of the previous categories I've chosen for another image, the listboxes don't appear and I get that error.

Not to me but that's usual. I never have any sales at bigstock.

DepositPhotos / Re: Anyone Else Having Trouble Uploading?
« on: May 15, 2012, 08:08 »
I have no problem with the ftp procedure itself. Problem is that the new files don't appear on the unfinished files section. They are still on my ftp area though. I have 4 files sitting there since monday but yesterday night I uploaded a couple more and they (the new ones) went to the unfinished files section.

I contacted support this morning and they told me that are having technical issues at the moment are are trying to fix them. There's no need to re-upload the images.

When I'm on the computer, only when the picNiche toolbar tells me I made a sale but when I'm away from the PC, I'm always feeling the urge to check it on my phone.

I will examine the inside of the lens closely to see if I can find anything strange...

Nothing wrong inside the lens. I'll probably ditch it and buy the nikkor 105mm.

65
I had the same issue and it was the lens inside "sweating".. the weird fact here is that it works well with natural lighting.. so gotta be the strobes, the light from them..

I will examine the inside of the lens closely to see if I can find anything strange...

66
its light, too much light entering the lens/sensor

But how can that be? Both images even look a bit underexposed or is it just my eyes?

67
Are you using the lens hood?

I am. And on that lens, the front glass is very much inside the barrel so that can't be it.

Cameras / Lenses / Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro Flare Problem
« on: March 20, 2012, 07:11 »
Hi,

I have a Sigma 105mm F2.8 EX DG Macro (the old, non OS, version) and I noticed that sometimes I get a magenta halo on the centre of the image. It doesnt happen when I use natural light. It usually happens when Im doing macro photography, with a softbox at 45 from the subject, on a white background. Is this a common problem with this lens? Is it prone to backlight flaring or is it damaged?

Im attaching 2 examples, straight from the camera. The magenta halo and lose of detail is noticeable on the centre of the image. f/11.

Shutterstock.com / Re: it's frustrating
« on: March 15, 2012, 05:12 »
One was for "focus", the image is an isolated object at f/27 and is sharp as a tack from corner to corner.

Sharp as tack at f/27? What lens do you use?

... and yes, reviews can be really frustrating, specially when images are selling really well at other agencies and then are rejected at shutterstock.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Android Apps for Stock
« on: February 23, 2012, 05:35 »
I bought Microstock Report yesterday. I decided to give it a try since I needed something like the picNiche toolbar that I could use on the go, on my android phone, and for $2.99 it was a no-brainer.

The plus is that it really works and it has a big list of agencies we can use. It also has a widget to show the sum of all agencies' earnings. There still is some room for improvement. The user interface could be better and there could be an auto refresh option with a popup letting the user know when a sale occurred but I guess those are easy things to fix in a new version. I recommend it to anyone who's using more than one agency and that wants to check earnings through the day on an android phone without having to log into the agencies' websites.

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Images In Action
« on: December 16, 2011, 09:56 »
Just pick an image url from one of the agencies you are with and paste it into the allocated google field.

It's even simpler than that. Just open google images (images.google.com) and then drag an image from any website to the textbox of google images. Couldn't be easier than that.

Attilla!  is right here,  you have been milking us for weeks now. Its about time you stand on your own two feet, learn from your mistakes, same as the rest of us. Understood?

You meant that for me? So you actually think that's it's possible to know it all? I stand on my own two feet already, thank you very much. Still I'm always open to new ideas and to learn new stuff. Understood?
