Adobe Stock / Re: Fotolia Purchases WiLogo
« on: March 19, 2012, 14:20 »
I checked the site, but I can't say I like the concept!
They let designers work hard on designing a logo, but only the one selected gets paid.
Contests are great for students who like to show off their skills and who like the practice and motivation. But for professionals who are trying to make a living, this is slavery.

+1

Similar to 99designs.. Over there I've seen some terrible ratios of logo designs created to payments released.
Something like $2 / logo, some even worse.

Huh, I guess I'm still a bit confused because what you just wrote seems a little bit different than the first post you made opening this thread.  In that post you said "But we are talking about RPI, PRD, intoxicated with our "gentle" lives, angry if oil jumps 1% ..."

That statement along with the title of the thread I interpreted to imply that you perceive us (when I say us, I mean those of us from the United States posting in this forum specifically since you mentioned our silly discussions of RPI and PRD) as spoiled or "gentle."  I didn't catch the part about your desire to see technology advancements in there.  Oh well, I guess it's my mistake.

Oh wait...that last part of your last quote where you said "moral people should not build their own standards on other people's suffering!"  Who exactly are you referring to there?  I don't want there to be any more mixups.  Could you please elaborate and let me know who you are referring to with that statement?

Thanks,

Mat

Hi Mat!

...intoxicated with our "gentle" lives, angry if oil jumps 1% ..

My intention was to put all of us (NOT only people from US), including myself it that category... Also that was a general statement for average man life in "NON-3rd world countries"...

...specifically since you mentioned our silly discussions of RPI and PRD) as spoiled or "gentle."
"Silly discussion" is ALSO My discussion...
I refer on all OUR problems in "more or less money" category... This can be silly if we compared it with suffering of those children there...

...you said "moral people should not build their own standards on other people's suffering!"  Who exactly are you referring to there...

I am referring on all people who consider themselves moral and free and who can find justification for all that in my first post.
There is NO ethnic, national, racial, administrative or any other affiliation or restrictions...

It seems that my knowledge of English language is problem ... I apologize for that!

I interpreted it exactly like that.

Wow, I must be doing something seriously wrong then  ;)

This month: 1/1302
All time since 2008: 1/1173

I imagine it has a lot to do with the style and niche of images people have - but you certainly can't blame it on the quality of your port.

Thanks leaf  :) Yeah I guess EL's for web buttons and web graphics are rarely needed, that may be the explanation.

@ Microstock Posts >  :D  ;D I will go home and practice on my $28 sales, promise

New Sites - General / Re: Clipart-box.com
« on: February 16, 2012, 15:24 »
Why not provide some incentive for contributors to upload? As I see it there are some major problems with your site from a contributor point of view.

25% is not a competitive royalty rate.
And not anything near the best offer on the web as you state on your website.

Plenty of the new/small sites are offering decent commissions (40-75%) and in exchange I send them my illustrations even if they don't have many sales because that's where I would like to see this industry headed - a fairer split between agency and contributor. Why on earth would I want to submit to a site that pays me less than the average agency ? What would make me want to support a site like this? I might consider it if the site had heavy traffic and lots of sales, but I doubt this is the case here.

The following are all non-exclusive rates at different sites:

DepositPhotos - 44% - 52%
ClipartOf - 50%
GL Stock Images (Graphic Leftovers) - 52%
Stockfresh - 50%
FeaturePics - 50%
YayMicro - 50%
AllYouCanStock - 75%
Drawshop - 50%
CutCaster - 40%
The3DStudio - 60%
123RF - 50%

Prices are too low
Not quite sure how vectors are prices, but it seems the range is $2 - $4. Extended licenses starting from $10 (5 times the standard price of a vector) is unheard of.

Yes. ClipartOf pays 50%

So does Stockfresh and 123RF (at least for the next 10 months).

AllYouCanStock pays 75%.

Shutterstock pays 25% - how do you know ?

ETA: My percentage for single image purchases is 30% and I suspect approximately the same royalty applies to sub sales.

63
Shutterstock loves this.

64
Even if the top 50 was removed, you can always click the vector category or do a search for "vector", then sort by downloads or popularity - on any site.

StockFresh / Re: StockFresh - Is the opportunity passing?
« on: February 09, 2012, 02:02 »
26 downloads in total and just $3.5 short of a payout - looking forward to being able to withdraw. Earningswise SF is on par with (or perhaps slightly better than) FeaturePics, Cutcaster and YayMicro for me - sites that I also upload to in the hope that I'll get paid once or twice a year - still worth it in my opinion. What's to be impatient about? Get your large payouts every month from Shutterstock and Fotolia while slowly building up extra income from the smaller sites. I understand that some are afraid the small agencies will shut down while keeping unpaid earnings, but has that even happened before ? When Snapvillage closed I received my balance of ~$7 via PayPal. I was paid my due earnings from StockXpert as well when closing my account (after the Getty mess). LuckyOliver perhaps? I never had an account there so can't tell what happened..

Happens all the time. Really annoying..

I also inquired support about it but never got a reply

68
I uploaded a bunch and 1 was rejected because of a problem with the preview, so I now I've got 149 images. So close but now it's too late :-\

69
I've been with them since 2008, have had much more than 10 sales but only have 114 vector images there.

I could upload more to get my portfolio count over 150, but I would have to go through my old stuff to find images that I didn't want included in the first place. It's ridiculous to have portfolio count as one of the criterias as it doesn't say anything about quality. I may have to consider closing my account..  :-\

Selling Stock Direct / Re: Check my page on Facebook
« on: December 04, 2011, 08:01 »
RacePhoto, pages are created from your main account. So you do not create an extra account with a different email address and therefore does not violate the rules. You access your pages also from your main account and can then choose to "login" as page administrator to make changes to it (all from the 1 account).

Nice page Denis! What option did you use to promote it? Are there free promotional choices, except for just using your own contact list?

Thanks CD123!!

Once your business page is setup, through a link, you can invite all your friends to see your new page. Therefore, because it is free, needless to say that as many friends as you can get the better it is. However, you have to be careful in finding friends, because the automatic "Facebook spam police" will cut off your friends finding tool for 48 hours if you get too many warning messages. I know as it happened to me tonight.. ;D.  I'll be more careful next time..

As well, on the business page, you get a "promote with an ad link" which  I have tried for $10.00. Basically, once you click on that link you get this amazingly easy intuitive interface to build you little banner ad in a snap ready to go and be pushed to all Facebook's fans out there up to 800 millions of them if you want.  However you better not think that big because it may cost you that much to push your ad to that many. All you need is a credit card or a PayPal account. You simply tailor your ad to the audience that you want. You get to chose your "target audience" by choosing their countries, their language, their interests by putting in keywords, their ages etc...  after which Facebook calculator will automatically show that your target has diminished from 800 millions to a few thousands.

Then you chose to pay by either each time someone click on your ad or each time so many thousands impressions occur. I have put in $10.00 just to test it...which will give me approximately 15-20 clicks.  It is approximate because the price of the click can vary between $0.50 and $1.00.  At first this seem expensive, but you can target your audience so well that I am not sure yet if it is that expensive. So far, I got only 5 clicks in the last 24 hours, from that ad,  but each one really did spend a lot of time on my site. Many other visitors came from Facebook, this forum, some other photography sites and a few odd ones from google. Oh yes, I did email some of the sites that already had my photos displayed on their sites, specifically the ones with no credits, and thank them for using my photos and gave them a link to my site...some of them email me back with good words about my site.

Denis

Thanks for the description. I've just created a campaign and I'm excited to see the results.
Love the possibility to pinpoint the target audience much more precisely than with Google ads

I've tried to request a payout twice today with the result of a database error. Both times the money was withdrawn from my account and added back a bit later. I created a support ticket, but will try requesting my payout again tomorrow.
