I took it as meaning better results for sales.....
She didn't say anything about cutting our cut.

two days later, there is a post about this "big" sale at stockxpert...just appeared today....seems they don't really remember what the image was.... really? they sell it for 10 grand and they don't remember what they sold?????? sounds like someone was inspired by FEMA's last press conference, although I could be wrong.....

General Stock Discussion / Re: Workflow...

I go straight from the camera to Aperture to uploading to the sites, Aperture really does do it all.
Depending upon the camera, they may go through DXO pro first, then over to Aperture.

And having the Istock plug in in Aperture makes submitting  a breeze!
With the plug, you can do iStocks weird keyword thing and add the categories, press upload and off they go, don't even have to check anything on the site!

Cameras / Lenses / Re: Filter or no filter
November 07, 2007, 16:42
Filters come in very handy and it is good practice to learn about all the different ones.
I personally dont use the UV or skylight ones, I think they are useless, shooting for over 20 years and I have yet to scratch the lens glass.

As far as stock goes, I think ND and circular polarizers are must haves!
I often use them in the studio as well as outdoors.

I doubt TV is the right outlet for stock advertising.
I have seen some great ads, one and two page types from istock, shutterstock and dreamstime in major publications, even a couple for bigstock.

These sites are doing the right things, we have to provide the right images if we want a decent cut....

I have always said the reviewing should be done by the designers.....but the designers I know wouldn't work that cheap...

I use the Alpha 100 and love it!
It can be had for about half the price of the new 700. There doesn't seem to be much on the new Alpha to tempt me to want to put out another grand when the one I have does everything I need it to.

About the sony sensor, it is not only in nikons, and has been for a while, but it is also in one of the other leading brands...can't think of which one right now.

I have been using sony professionally since I went digital back around 2000, as soon as they came out with the 707. I can't say enough good about them, and from what I hear they also seem to have the best battery life....

think I will go look at the test shots and see if I need the new Alpha......

I thought the line you quoted made lots of sense....interesting article but really didnt say all that much

nice little site, they are also giving most of the images photo credits... all seem to be from ShutterStock too!

private property.....public event
property aspect doesnt really matter all that much unless you are showing signage and the like. at least from all the event i have covered. as long as you have a big lens, no one will argue, and throw a second camera around your neck and you will really impress the masses.....

there are always ways around the rules
#63
why not just buy the ticket to the event and hand out cards to where you will be posting them for sale.
I worked for some motorcycle mags and when you do that they own everything.

you can always write a story later and submit it with pictures to mags that would be interested. Then the whole shabang is yours....

good luck whatever you decide......

Hi:

please endulge me for a minute and answer this question for me:  in one sentence or less how would you define a successful life for yourself.

Thanks!

Living your dreams.

It don't matter if they are micro or mid as long as they peddle our photos and we get a nice little cash flow......
#67
I only have two comments....about the name?
And you all think Lucky Oliver is a name that applies to photography....outside the little microstock circle?
I think snapvillage is a cool and catchy name.

Second, as mentioned above about white balance, noise and all that other stuff.....it is only micro stock that is so hung up on it....and not all the sites are. Istock and Dreamstime, I find care more about the image than the technical aspects....I find it amusing how if an image isn't a perfectly lit sunny day some of the sites will say it is has bad lighting, yet you look in any magazine and the majority of the great photography you find there would never make it past the reviewers.....

ok off i go to play with my camera some more.....

ps does it matter if corbis makes a profit as long as the photographers get paid?
I dont think so.....

again these are just my opinions.....

toodles!

and for the first time in my short carreer, I'm actually thinking about going exclusive.....

Say it ain't so tom!

I'll have more to say a little later today - but consider the Best Match search on IS - consider being able to actually influence what images appear on the first page - that would be a great advantage to photogs!

if you belong to 123rf you can do it there with the new "faves" feature, check it out if you havent found it already.......

back to the sideshow....
still dont think paying a site to peddle my pictures is a good idea......everyone will be turning their earnings into tokens ....strange strange strange... think i will go buy a lottery ticket.....
#69
wait a second....we are going to pay lo now to sell our pictures that aint really moving that fast to begin with? and this is a good thing?
sure, ya got tokens now but what happens when they are gone, convert earnings into tokens???
maybe i missed something

as far as marketing to the buyers, that has been said since the beginning of the year.....

to me there isnt enough time in the day to continue to fumble around on the smaller sites

just my two cents.....
#70
Leaf....that is sooo strange! I love it!

Read my rights...cool shot! I have yet to be able to catch lightning

we all see things differently

This thread is designed for us that do more than just stock....most likely that's everyone here.
Just post the image and the title.
If someone wants to comment, that should be welcome also.....ready?
Let's create our own Art Gallery!

if i am reading this correctly, calling the boss a twit and saying they suck is good grounds to get fired.
these microstocks are pretty much the bosses...we are the workers....

but hey that is just the way i think....and i really cant see the reason for such a long thread,  kinda like that one on the shutterstock raise...i mean come on now, what is there to discuss, the company will be giving us more money, we should be happy no?
who really cares how much, they know how to sell.

I personally enjoy the threads with the tips and the fun stuff like the absurd rejection notices.....

I think a good thread would be one in which we post one of our personal favorite creations. not stock stuff but real art that we create for ourselves....any one else like the idea?

well off i go to ponder which image i would post in the new thread....

be good

I did until I saw how much space it took up on the drive, then I promptly deleted everything but the main program....

Enjoy!
