Since starting out I've found that one of my images accounts for over 50% of my total earnings. Do you find a similar trend?

As it happens Autumn in Sweden is a lovely season, really colorful stuff. My second home is in the UK, London and Cornwall and boy, even more rain every single day.

I'm starting to think that London is Atlantis. We havnt had a classic blue sky stock day where the light is perfect for weeks.

Sales are still going strong after two weeks on SS. 2 -3 d/l per day on average from my first batch of 50. I thought it would have died down after the first week. How hungry is the beast for you?

Keep going Blufish. Its worth contacting them if you are rejected again - if you have 7 accepted images across previous batches then they are likely to be understanding and reset your account to review mode so that you can upload your best batch.

If you feed the beast what comes out the other end?

When "The Beast" is hungry how long will it feed off my fresh meat before hunting for a new carcass? For example, if I upload a batch of 10 and get downloads on the day it is accepted, the following day and the next.... how many days is it before the downloads from new search results goes?

Same, I was only accepted yesterday and I've already had three sales which seems unprecendented in my experience. Why is it so different to istock and DT and FT? What is the catch with SS?

Yesterday I had 8 rejected out of 10 from my 6th submitted batch. 8 out of 10 of the images had been accepted in previous batches so I emailed support out of fraustration and got a helpfull response. They reset my account to 'review' status and asked me to submit 10 files that had been accepted before. Today I was finally accepted! Its worth asking if you find yourself in the same situation.

I have been trying for several months now. If the response to half of my 10 images that are submitted is simply "Not Approved:" with no further detail, but the other half do have reasons such as "Compositon" or "Commercial Value" are the former accepted at first but rejected because I've had less than 7 in the batch approved?

They do look very similar. However there are alot of stock images out there and it could be pure coincidence. The world will look the same no matter how you draw it.

1. Fotolia seems to have been offline since last night - does anyone know whats going on?

2. I have had uploads waiting for approval for a week and a half now (its normally same day or the day after) - has anyone had experience of this in the past? By my own admission they are particularly good images and I am keen to see them accepted or rejected. Has anyone had to prompt Fotolia to review an image in the past?

You should have shouted to high heavens! The problem is no one would understand your point if they dont understand microstock. People will use photos from google searches in presentations, no matter what the web location is, and this will always be a problem. I guess its not really a problem if its not being published or presented outside of a small group of people?

Yes your right I will keep them online. But only as long as my subscription lasts. What I really mean then is in my situation I should probably focus on uploading to the big sites that I'm finding some success with.

I'm going for a read of your blog - are you full time now then?

It probably because they accepted all of the guff I initally thought was worthy of being counted as stock.

iStock gives you the highest sales and most satisfaction IMO. Fotolia gives you the quickest feedback and if you start out with alot of images to upload then it will help a newbie to gauge what will be accepted on the other sites and what won't be accepted anywhere. DT is good and my largest portfolio is there but their standards seem to be lower (many of what I would rate as my poorer images, from when I started out, are located here and getting the fewest views/sales). In, summary I've learnt and earnt the least from DT; iStock is the most satisfying site to get a sale; and Fotolia teaches you the most.

I am considering getting a lighting setup as I live in a very dingy flat with minimum natural light. I've been experimenting with a daylight bulb in a desktop lamp but I don't achieve the results I want - natural light with no shadows. If I go for some flash units (I'm considering renting a US mailbox and getting Alienbees forwarded to the UK):

• What is the difference between "the B400, the B800 and the B1600"? I guess its the amount of light its capable of creating.
• Do I need two flash units - or could I use one combined with the daylight bulb in a desktop lamp?

What would you do?
