Dear Shank_ali

Evidently you have not even read my original post. It really would better enable you to respond 'accurately' to postings if you actually read them first! Take a deep breath and read them again.

It might help (you) if I list chronologically the facts, as I/we see them.

*snip*

Carry on my friend, put your little head a little deeper in the sand and dream on about how things 'used to be' at ISP and how much better those days were. Smart people have moved on and instigated definitive actions to protect their businesses and quality of life but maybe your more dinosaur by nature.

Have a great day.
Great reply but you are wasting your time on Shank.  He only ever hears what he wants to hear and ignores everything else.

True that.

It seems to be his goal in life to rile up others and watch the fun.

I am new to forums, but is this what it means to be a "troll"?

Locking a thread is a moderator's function and sometimes it need to be done.

I don't post there much anymore, either as a contrib or a buyer (both functions with little participation) because my issue with the IS forums is in one word Lobo. He simply cannot lock the thread without a snarky remark, lame joke or downright rudeness. He is like a six-year-old who must get in the last snotty word and then sticks his fingers in his ears and shouts la, la, la, I can't hear you. Most other moderators simply lock threads with an explanation showing decorum and professionalism, Lobo not so much. It just makes my blood boil when he is outright rude in the guise of being funny. Perhaps that is a sign of his insecurity.

All that is left in the IS forums are the wooyayers and the lypse-iacs. Makes for a boring one-sided forum.

On this board alone we know at least about two cases. This one and another one with a member called FD-Regular. He too assured us he didn`t do any violation at all and had a very good standing with the forum.

So, both cases in which the affected contributors posted their cases in public here had been somehow questionable. We don`t know how many Contributors in total are affected, but it may be a larger number ...

Whatever happened with FD-Regular. I read that thread with interest and have not seen or heard about it, or from him, in a long while.

Anyone know anything?

He told LOBO (Pieman) to go eat a cow pie.

If this is true, can you post a link (if it's still there)? I would love to read LOBOs reply as I am sure he could not resist spewing something. He is so snotty sometimes, I would like to say the same thing but I don't have the cahones.

Had a chuckle at the title. So contributors are having less sales and assume that's because the buyers are leaving..What bollocks !
More contributors ,more choice of content =Less sales.Simple.

Hi Shanks!  blimey,  fancy bumping into you here,  where have you been all these years?

He was last here when he was banned on the iStock forums for a while - has that happened again?
Sure has...   ::).I'm now enjoying my 6th holiday from the forum.

For what?! You've been such a cheerleader lately?

Yes. Please tell us why. You have been a staunch supporter of the PP (thank you) and have been gracious as of late IMO. What did you say?

her best sellers are Vettas, you can really find just a handful of e+ files among the first 200 files. So the 5300+ DLs are really more like 50k+ for someone who has just a handful of Vettas.
Have they always been Vettas, or does that include a heap of downloads from pre-Vetta times?
I get the impression (pure surmise) she was headhunted from social media. She was then hothoused (immediate image of the week) and got her 250dls to become exclusive extremely quickly (actually, while the same images were still available for free download from at least one 'image-sharing' site) so her pics became Vetta within a very short time of her arriving at iStock.

As I recall she went exclusive in less than a week after her dog washing image was IOTW. I don't even think she had 10 images in her port before she hit 250dls. Must be a record.

Her photos are art and she is a master in Photoshop. I enjoy looking at them.

SNP .. I am glad to see you back from the London lypse, and in rare form as usual. Can't wait to see your photos on Thinkstock as my company has a subscription there.

here we go again! :)
I took it as a troll and am not rising to the bait.  ::)

No trolling. I was being completely sincere. No sarcasm, really.

iStockPhoto.com / Re: Istock is having a sale
« on: June 06, 2011, 20:15 »
Last week was very up and down - but I would say that the number of XL and up images in the mix was greater than I typically see. OTOH, if the total numbers aren't up, it doesn't do me any good to see the mix of sizes change.

Part of my Shutterstock portfolio went live on Saturday and my first sale of 36 cents beat the 28 cents I got for a (P+) XS image at iStock the same day. Has a way of softening any of my qualms about subscriptions :)

If you just started at SS how are you getting, 36 cents instead of the usual 25 cent startup royalty? Did they continue your earnings total from when you were there before exclusive at IS? Just curious.

Site Related / Re: Personal Profile Changes?
« on: May 30, 2011, 05:15 »
yes, I agree. I liked to be able to see the "number of ignored" on a profile.

When I push the ignore button on someone I like to see how many others did as well. Somehow if there were a lot of "ignoreors" (is that a word?) than I felt maybe it wasn't just me, the member really was annoying.

C'est la vie

63
My guess (albeit uneducated) is that independent contribs like Yuri and others of his ilk get personal emails or a a phone call when a new IS policy with potential for more earnings is created. Maybe he does not want to tie his images down for 6 months? But this is just speculation.

Ah - Amazon UK doesn't do it. I accidentally bought something I'd previously bought a couple of years ago, and I just checked just now with something I bought last year, and there was no warning.

Yes it does. It has to be the identical product though.

and make sure you're logged in.
I'll take your word for it, though I've now tried a few without success.

However, which other micros do this?

If you go to download an already downloaded image on Shutterstock it shows a dialog box that you are downloading under a previous license and you can download it again (if you want) without it coming off your daily total. This feature is great as sometimes I need a larger size than a colleague downloaded previously or I have accidentally deleted an image. We have four designers and this feature also let's us know if someone else in the office already bought it.

Thinkstock does the same thing.

I can't speak to the other micro sites.

As to the prices at IS, got no problem with Vetta or Agency, I just take issue with not having the ability to exclude  them in my searches. I really think this is what sticks in the buyers craw, having them shoved down our throats.

65
You have to look at Shutterstock in terms of how much they will generate from your portfolio (almost every other microstock agencies have similar subscription packages) not individual sales.

You can either join in and collect your rightful share of the proceeds __ or you can leave it to others to enjoy the sales you might have had.

Alternatively you could leave your most prized vectors as P+ files at Istock alone (but you will lose out that way).

P+ is not available to vector artists at IS. Really does not make that much of a difference (to me) since my sales are horrible there this month.

SS is a great site. They put new stuff in prominent positions mixed in with top sellers. This is very motivating and keeps you wanting to upload more.... And that is the key, feed the beast and you will have volume DLs.

I would stagger my uploads x amount per week, this way you always have recently uploaded images and you will have good placement, and if your images sell right away you will stay in that ranking.

Congratulations on being accepted and wish you lots of DLs.

67
Snip..
iStock is becoming a place for a small group of Vetta/Agency contributors and that's just not me.

JoAnn... I could not agree more with this statement. IS is doing its very best to turn the site into an elitist club. What use to be a great one-stop (and I mean GREAT) microsite is now a festering cesspool of snobs, cronyism and sycophants. The myriad of price points is confusing and not be able to sort by price is annoying at best. Anyhoo, I digress.

I wish you the best of luck with your Independence. No one deserves more good things than you. You have been a helpful and most supportive contributor. You have helped me out several times in the critique forum (you are sorely missed there) and have been a voice of reason during these dark times.

Thanks for the memories and I raise a glass to some new ones.

In general searches, though, I notice that V/A don't seem, as dominant in the front pages today.

Or maybe it's all just wishful thinking  :-\

I think the best match has been tweaked to a more reasonable mix. I was helping someone today learn the ropes of how to search (by NOT using best match) and when I showed her the results of best match vs downloads, etc. the first couple of pages were not as heavy on V+A files.

I would like to think that IS was listening to the complaints of both contribs and buyers. Any other theories? Or am I just deluded?

As a buyer I have NEVER sorted by best match - as it was always skewed towards exclusive content first, keywords second. So the current best match has no meaning to me. I sort first by downloads, which rarely shows any V or A files in the front of the search. And if it is a subject that I search for frequently I sort by file date (to see the newest stuff first).

I will not pay for a Vetta, Agency or even an E+ file. If I want to spend that kind of money I will go to Corbis, Alamy, Estock, AGE or even Getty. IS is microstock and it really pisses me off that there are so many price points and I have to look at camera icons before I can even look at the photo.

However, I wonder how many buyers have actually stopped buying from IS or if they are like me and ONLY buy regular priced images. How many buyers even know about the forums, let alone post in them. I find it hard to fathom that IS would blithely just go about shoving V+A down buyers throats if their attrition rate was more serious than the dozen buyers who have posted displeasure in the forums.

I guess what this long drone on post is about is, how bad can things be at IS if they just keep on keeping on with their move to midstock? I have read all the suppositions from others here but surely Getty/IS must have some kind of marketing research done that makes them think the move to midstock is good.

I am sure someone here will enlighten me, cuz I am too stoopid to see their (IS) logic. Why eff up a good thing?

No matter what the contract, you can never sign away your right to file a lawsuit. The key is whether or not the courts consider your suit valid enough to proceed, and you have the money it takes to fight.
