Off Topic / Do you have a life away from microstock
« on: January 15, 2010, 15:00 »
What do you like to do away from microstock. I will start things off....I love mountain biking and being a bit of an anal person my bike has to be perfect so I spend probably spend more on the bike than I do on microstock  :) I hear the gasps of disbelief but its true. I am a bit of a weight Weenie! The lighter the bike gets (the emptier my pockets gets) but the bigger the smile!

Shutterstock.com / Re: SS Raises Vector Size to 15 MB and EPS-10!
« on: December 19, 2009, 12:40 »
I hope the other sites choose this standard quickly or we will have to save the file in another standard  :(. I wont be using transparencies at the start as I wont be able to save as illustrator 8 files and thus not be able to upload vectors to other sites. If they are making the move to illustrator 10 why not also allow you the option to upload in CS4?

Strangely this has been my best week of the year...especially at shutterstock. I will keep uploading and plan to do my last batch on the 21st, then start again on the 4th Jan

The review queue is so long you would have had to submit your Christmas images last Christmas to be online in time for this Christmas! ;D

I have had some sales, maybe 2 a month but it takes so long to get the images online and approved.

58
I have put a list of sites I submit my illustrations to on my blog. I hope it is useful.

Me famous ;D I dont think so...yes I have have uploaded the minimum amount of images I needed to get the payout and even had two sales and been paid and cashed out all of the money. I dont have any intention of uploading anymore images at the present time.

Off Topic / Help with apple script
« on: November 15, 2009, 10:10 »
Help, I need some trouble shooting advice with apple script, I have set up a script to convert a jpeg and eps into one zip file but come up with an error. which is below

Cant make class cfol "zip folder" of class cfol "Desktop" of class cfol "michaeltravers" of class cfol "Users" of class sdsk of application "Finder" into the expected type.

This is the script

tell application "Finder"
set startFolder to (folder "Macintosh HD:Users:michaeltravers:Desktop:zip folder")
set startFolder_POSIX to quoted form of POSIX path of startFolder -- we'll need this later

-- get the JPEG filenames
set JPEGfiles to (name of every file of startFolder whose name extension is "jpeg") as alias list
-- iterate through them
repeat with eachFile in JPEGfiles
-- get the base name (without the extension)
set baseName to (characters 1 through -6 of eachFile) as text
-- do we have a corresponding .eps file?
if exists file (baseName & ".eps") of folder startFolder then
-- if so, create a zip file containing the two items
set zipfilename to quoted form of (baseName & ".zip")
set jpegfilename to quoted form of (baseName & ".jpeg")
set epsfilename to quoted form of (baseName & ".eps")
do shell script "cd " & startFolder_POSIX & "; zip " & zipfilename & space & jpegfilename & space & epsfilename
end if
end repeat

end tell

any advice on where I am going wrong would be gratefully received.

To get the payment you need to upload "original" images, what is the definition of original?

iStockPhoto.com / istock illustration rejections
« on: November 06, 2009, 06:01 »
I know istock are tougher than most to get images approved on but I have been getting some frustrating rejections. I keep getting illustrations rejected and the reason given is that I haven't supplied the original artwork/image that the illustration was created from, so I e-mailed support to explained that all my images are hand drawn and not traced or copied from source material they agreed and told me to write a short note and sign it and then attach it to each file as I submit them.

Great I thought but no, some reviewers clearly read the note and pass the illustrations but then I can have similar files rejected for the "missing rgb source files" reason the next week.

Has anyone else had this issue and how did you get round it?

General Stock Discussion / Re: The use of a square image
« on: November 03, 2009, 08:18 »
Looking through my own portfolio on shutterstock Square compositions seem to come top by quite a long way followed by Landscape but nearly all my images are illustrations...not sure if that makes a difference.

General Stock Discussion / Re: Low earners with easy uploading?
« on: November 03, 2009, 02:58 »
For vector artist try GraphicLeftOvers easy to upload to and even thou I have only been on there about 2 months it is already up to about 5 or 6 best earner.  ;)

Cutcaster / Re: anyone out there selling?
« on: November 02, 2009, 14:16 »
I have also noticed sales picking up at Cutcaster with 4 sales last month. Not great but encouraging  ;)

Very similar finding to me except that Veer has jumped into fifth place and Graphicleftovers showing strongly as well.

Is this open to current members?

I haven't had the need to run a window application on my mac for about 5 years. There is such a wide range of applications available for the mac platform now that it would be a backwards step to put windows on it.

Illustration - General / Re: Clipartof, how are people doing?
« on: August 06, 2009, 09:14 »
I have 76 online and about 2000 in the queue, only had my first batch keyworded (which was over 2 months ago). So far only 5 sales. I like the site and think it has potential but without the images online sales will never come.

Illustration - General / Re: What sells and what dose not?
« on: June 13, 2009, 03:07 »
For me it varies a lot site to site, I dont think I have the same top seller on any of the sites I submit to. Try to be original then review your sales month on month to see what sells (thats what I do anyway)
