Symbiostock - General / Re: First sale! Well... not really.
« on: April 15, 2013, 23:25 »
Congrats!

Got my first sale last night too....$15 medium size image....bought by my brother ;) What a kind tester he is :)

Full royalties or your brother received some commission for be a tester?

Full royalties...but then I refunded the sale out of the goodness of my heart :)

502
Brilliant, thanks Leo.

503
Looks good Leo.

Just a Q related to this - After paying with Paypal, what return URL should we be putting in the PAypal settings?

It's a good idea if its possible to have nil results from the network at the bottom.

One glaring error on the e-commerce network is that if you leave to go another members site with items in your cart, you cannot purchase them on the other members site. This should be made crystal clear.

If the shopping cart has items in it there should be a - shopping cart warning - before a buyer disappears across the network, so they are prompted to complete their purchase.

Wow, great point. +10 for this one. Good pick up matt

506
Just purely for styling/asthetic purposes, would it be good for a networked partner not to show up at all if they don't have any matching results from a search query?

For instance, you might have 5 networked people. Someone searches on your site for "Dog", up comes your dog photos, along with 4 empty result spaces below it showing zero results from 4 partners, and finally, the last networked partner who does have relevant results. I would suggest the first 4 don't get shown up at all if they don't have a match, just the one networked partner that does.

Any thoughts? It's not a biggie, just purely a look & usability thing.

507
I think we should keep the word licence in there somewhere - maybe Checkout/Licencing - the little shopping cart gives a big clue anyway

See what you mean. It's just that I've had a few non-stock friends look at it and none of them knew what to do after clicking on the image size they wanted. So we need it to be pretty obvious. I know education is part of the process, but at this point pretty much no-one knows what Licensing means.

Maybe as you say, something thats a compromise might be best "View licenses & Checkout" or such.

couple more nits:

http://cascoly-images.com/pix/image/human-anatomy/

display doesn't show bullets from <li>, but does in edit

===================

when i log in it shows me my shopping cart

when i login with test acct it shows me the image categories

Yep, bullet points and I think numbered lists also don't show up properly - no bullet or number.

509
Leo-on the image detail page, like this one - http://thpstockphotos.com/image/sheep-in-field-2/

can we have a "View my Cart" button or something similar, as clicking on the "Customer/Licensing Area" link is not intuitive for people who know nothing about stock/licenses. If we turn that link into a button with simpler text I think it would be great.

ditto, has been for about an hour i think

512
Ha, true, sorry, not really a bug. More of a PLEASE!

513
Hey leo, in your next update, could you consider NOT forcing the categories to be built upon install? With each update I have to muck around again with categories, deleting ones etc.

As suggested, perhaps adding the default categories could be a tick box option in the admin after install?

Not sure how much work that is...

514
Also, if you have an empty cart and click "get licenses" at the moment, you get taken to a kinda ugly Paypal error page.

Could the button just be inactive instead, until there is something in the cart?

Symbiostock - Technical Support / Re: Setting up PayPal
« on: April 10, 2013, 21:53 »
What return page have people been using from Paypal? Have you created a new "Thanks for purchasing" type page?

516
My suggestion would be "Checkout", or "Complete Checkout" or "Pay Now" - anything along those lines.

Basically it has to make perfect sense for Joe Bloggs who has never used a stock site before and has no idea what a license is.

517
PLaying around with registration and paypal now, seems to work pretty well. Just a few things, but important ones, especially number 2 & 3...

1. bug - in the registration email the new user gets sent, it has a link called "Login Page" - but it actually takes you to the EULA page instead (i.e. WRONG LINK). It also has another link underneath it called "Licensing and Downloads", which does take you to the Account page. Perhaps just one link that takes you to the login section would be best, since you have to login to get to the Account page anyway?

2 - I had some friends purchase some stuff as a test, and they have never used a stock site before. They were confused by the image description page not having an obvious "Add to Cart" or "Checkout" button. They highly suggested this, as have a few others so far. Think this needs to happen ASAP.

3 - Similar to above, same friends confused by the Customer License and FM Area page. The "Get Licenses" button text needs to be changed to "Checkout", or similar. Think this needs to happen ASAP.

Talk about clueless... I tried to create a new sidebar, as in, for different sidebars on different pages. So I followed some web instructions and edited the child themes functions.php file.

Wow did that end badly!! Thank goodness for undo, and that I am using child theme and could revert easily enough. Lesson - I'm getting outa my depth, but having fun trying.

Thanks Cathy & Tim.  I'll try those H2 Tags!

No worries

I had a perfectly logical reason for putting it there actually - I was too tired to write in the code to get the title.

Ha, can't beat that logic. I stand corrected. ;)

4. Why are these lines here? Where is content for this section found?

This is where technically you can have some verbage or other relevant stuff to say. If you push "edit" on this page you can add stuff. It will go between the lines. I'd like to put some default stuff in there if user doesn't add anything. Or just lose the lines if content is empty.

Ah ok, gotcha. I like it, was hoping I could put some stuff in there.

Cidepix didn't like idea number 1, and I'm thinking maybe he has a point - titles may not be unique, so a number AND the title could be beneficial (is that what you were thinking Cidepix? Or you just think its a stupid idea anyway?)

522

4 little things to consider...(as numbered in the screenshot)

1. The buyer is presented with a randomly generated number based on the number of the image (when it was uploaded) - Can we please get rid of that number, and give the file's Title here instead?

2. Needs a $ sign before the figure (or correct sign depending on currency)

3. Instead of Get Licenses, which new buyers probably wont understand, perhaps "Complete Transaction" or "Purchase" or "Proceed to Payment"?

4. Why are these lines here? Where is content for this section found?

523
Leo - can you please add to your list of bug fixes to-do, that menu CSS one? I mentioned it in another thread, about the menu losing styling if it has no link attached to it?

Thanks

Symbiostock - SEO & Marketing / Re: Which SEO plugin to use?
« on: April 09, 2013, 19:11 »
I've been testing the Worpress SEO by Yoast and have some questions.  The image analysis shows I'm failing on these counts - the first two are red and the others are yellow.  Any tips to point me in the right direction would be appreciated.

>There are 32 words contained in the body copy. This is far too low and should be increased.  I'm used to keeping descriptions reasonably clean and direct.  Is it better to add additional or more detailed description of what is being viewed?
>No images appear in this page, consider adding some as appropriate.  Seems like this would be for a blog page but doesn't apply to this situation unless we could add clickable thumbnails to other images from the series.
>No outbound links appear in this page, consider adding some as appropriate.  Again, maybe clickable thumbnails or a link to a lightbox if we could have that as a feature someday?  (maybe one of those Plugins to purchase Leo?)
>The page title contains keyword / phrase, but it does not appear at the beginning; try and move it to the beginning. How critical is this?  I don't want all my images from a series starting with the same word and it may not be the best description.
>No subheading tags (like an H2) appear in the copy. I'm not sure what an H2 Subheading tag is.  I'd happily consider including if I knew what it was!

You will never reach the recommended 300 words per page for image pages, unless you have HUGE descriptions!

With this plugin, it cannot tell what happens on the page after publish. For instance, Leo has coded in that the page includes an image (your photo for sale). But the plugin is looking for an image within the page, visible from the editing screen which you wont have ever, unless you manually insert an extra image (not sure why you would want to do that). So some of these things you just have to accept that you wont tick the boxes on. But that doesn't mean that Google wont index or rate your page well.

Symbiostock - Development Area / Re: Child Theme questions
« on: April 09, 2013, 03:17 »
Got it, following code in child theme style.css works, no noticable quirks...

footer.site-footer {
   background-color: #5E5E5E;
   background-image: url("");
   padding: 20px 20px;
   color: #CCC;
   border-style:none;
   }
footer .footer_section{
   background-image: url("");
   padding: 10px;
   border: none;
   margin-bottom: 10px;
}

footer .footer_info {
   background-image: url("");
   padding: 10px 0;
   margin: 10px 0;
   text-align: center;
   border: none;
   }

YAY! Now just need some fine tuning of a few things...
