Unfortunately this displaces new work that could also be submitted. My philosophy is to shoot and process the way I believe a shot should look, if it gets rejected, oh well... I've only been doing this stock thing for 4 months and realize I have a lot to learn, so I accept the learning curve imposed by the reviewers. I still upload a lot of new work but it will sometimes be delayed by resubmits.

I find that resubmitting anything to IS is a wastee of time. About 20 of my 101 files online were accepted after I made the corrections IS suggested and resubmitted them.

Now how on earth can a image be "overfiltered" (meaning over sharpened) and too soft from noise reduction at the same time? I take "overfiltered" to mean over-saturated as well. I find IS to be very consistent about accepting or rejecting images for me personally. They are normally right when they reject one of my photos and often give me a chance to fix the problem and resubmit. I appreciate the way they do things because it helps me learn what is best for stock. I can usually predict what they will reject and occasionally upload stuff just to see what they will do. Sometimes I am pleasantly surprised when they take an unusual shot.

3: hands together with something fragile in between A little pile of dirt with a tiny green plant? How about a guy staring intently at a computer screen with his hands on the keyboard? Has this been done yet? A lone tree in a perfect green landscape with the bluest sky you ever saw?

I work a 40 hour a week job plus upload to nine agencies. Don't really have time to add any more unproven new agencies. I gave Crestock a chance and that ended up being a dead end.

I have 101 files online and average around 3 to 4 downloads per day.

Good to know 150 is still a good number for steady downloads I have been very pleased with the progress and very inspired by people like you . Actually thought it would take a lot longer for things to get moving in the download numbers and for me to learn what sells and what doesn't. Helps that I work in advertising I love photography so much that it doesn't seem like work at all and I was selling desktop patterns on my own way back in 1995 so am thrilled to pick that up again and be able to sell seamless tiles and backgrounds on sites like SS, StockXpert, BigStock, 123RF and DT. I'm very focused and determined to make microstock a successful venture. Seems like an ideal career if you can put in the time and effort.

Well, this is talking ancient history, but I noticed consistent daily sales started when I hit around 150 images in my portfolio. I do have around 150+ images on the major sites (except iStock) and have been getting 10-20 downloads every day during the week for at least a month now (started uploading in March 08) with less on the weekends. My portfolio is made up of stock type photos, nature photos, seasonal graphics and backgrounds.

It took several weeks for them to honor my request to cancel my account and remove the images but they did eventually do it.

I would love to eventually make enough money from various stock agencies to be able to work from my home and never have to drive to, or work at, another person's company ever again.

me too... rejections rejections... why? hmmmm Do you think it could be the subject matter, rather than the quality of the photos?

Concept: iStock is not out to get you. I will sometimes reshoot worthy subjects that have been rejected by iStock and in many cases end up with a much better photo for my portfolio and for them to sell. I have learned so much, so fast by going through their inspection process and really appreciate the constructive criticism.

Would your lifestyle change if you suddenly lost ALL the income from microstock? I'm too new for this to have any impact on my income but I certainly know I would be sad and bored if microstock was lost. I would have to find some other creative endeavor to fill the vacuum, whether it be entering photo competitions, painting or making glass ornaments. The creative pursuits seem to be crucial for my overall happiness.

Other then that, they obviously do not like my images.. perhaps it's time to change my style, get dramatically better at what I do, or make the switch to illustrator.. i don't really know. I have learned in my very short time on iStock that they like good, straight, photography – natural shots of people and food that have minimal manipulation, no special effects and no composite work. They seem to love simple images that can make good backgrounds and they will take isolated pieces. They want elements for the designer to work with, not a finished design that you have done yourself. A helpful thing to do is to study the newest uploads coming through on the front page of their site.

Is entering the Dreamstime assignments good for portfolio exposure?

There used to be a dashboard widget for Mac but it is not available anymore that I know of. (I did a search on the Apple website). I'm using ProStockMaster which does the things you are asking for.

The photos I submitted were rejected. I'll try a few more. One of the rejection reasons was that a photo I submitted was a close-up, not a macro (which was a macro shot of tiny 1/8" henbit flowers). Yet when I look at the approved submissions, about half of those are close-ups and not macros. Who knows? It would be nice if they were consistent with the definition of their assignment.

Investing our time in stock photos is a bit like like investing in the stock market, isn't it? Hopefully less $ investment risked though. It really is quite challenging and exciting, isn't it? And without a doubt, one of the most interesting endeavors I've ever experienced. LOVE it!

I have a whopping total of 3 sales = 75¢ (joined a couple of months ago). Really quite pathetic. Doesn't seem like it's going to work out for me there either.

They prefer photography pure and simple.. And you could submit some artistic photography that is still suitable for stock? You seem to be quite creative with your graphic design.

I am an artist more than a photographer. Can you be both an artist AND a photographer?
