GLStock / Re: How to attach MR in GL?
« on: March 09, 2013, 04:36 »
I cannot find where to upload the releases. Could anyone help me please?
Just go to uploads and you get a choice to upload images or releases.

Pixmac / Re: Pixmac merges with Pond5

If P5 doesnt change their editing process, especially the MR issue, I wont submit. I am not going to edit every single file separately to attach a MR, and all of their templates dont work for photos. How can a site that sells photos, not have a proper editing tool for photos, only focuses on audio and video.
I'm not with either agency but am thinking about uploading.  Is pixmac easier to upload to as I looked at pond5 and the MR attatchment looked a bit complicated.
No idea, I was hoping an admin would chime in.

Model releases are easy in Pond5 once you figure out their system.  When I uploaded my 3000 images there, I put each model in their own set and uploaded. For example, I created a folder on my computer for Jane Doe, one for Joe Blow, one for Ima Hooker, one for Sheza Teazer and one for Ivan Kutchkokov.  I uploaded these image folders via FTP so ONLY the one specific model showed up in my "ready to edit" section.  The you just easily attach that person's model release to that batch and submit.  Makes things A LOT easier and less confusing.  Only thing is that you have to do multiple uploads, but it is way speedier.  Then when all the model shots are done, I upload ALL non release images as one batch and submit.
Thank you for that.  I already have most of my images organized into folders according to model releases needed for when I uploaded to photodune but had forgotten about it.

As I mentioned above, there's a simple batch process for attaching releases at Pixmac, if that helps :)
Thank you Lisa :D

I have seen some comments which suggest that by independents adding up all sites might be a reasonable comparison to the exclusive earnings rating. I'm just not convinced that conclusion is completely accurate.
What do you think, that the exclusives earn more or the independents earn more?

To get some sort of data you can go to 'My images' and compare your CTR to the average CTR.  Even that doesn't really mean a lot though.

531
Me too and I am total awe of your abilities.

532
One might have to refine this to be really meaningful. Someone can have 1000-2000 images at a site like YAY or Pond5 or even MostPhotos (no moderation) and zero at the top Tier due to quality issues.  Can not really compare that to someone with 1000-2000 at the top tier sites.
I agree, it would be better to just include the top 4.

Alamy.com / Re: What is the point of reporting zooms?
« on: March 06, 2013, 04:19 »
Zooms are only reported from certain top buyers

To round out the month, I received a distributor sale today - $26.46 for a 1580 x 1053 that "lists" for $190.

$26.46 was the gross. The distributor gets 40% off the top - $10.58 - and then Alamy and I split the rest, leaving me with $7.94

It doesn't list the distributor, so I have no way of knowing if this is just some Alamy subsidiary - which would then allow them to keep 70% of the total. If you ask Alamy will they tell you which distributor sold this image?

...

Hi there,

Sorry to read about your frustration with Alamy - I'd just like to clarify a few points raised:

>> "I have no way of knowing if this is just some Alamy subsidiary - which would then allow them to keep 70% of the total"

All distributor sales are third party, meaning that the split goes 40% to distributor, 30% to Alamy, 30% to photographer. There are no exceptions to this with distributor sales.

......

Many thanks

Why does the third party distributor get a bigger cut than the artist?
I was thinking the same.  I got my lowest ever sale with them yesterday
Sale price - 7.50$
Alamy Distribution Commission - 2.25
Distributor Commission - 3.00
I was left with 2.25
Quite dissapointing when I have had commissions of over 200$ from them.!!

I've just found that my Bigstockphoto balance has decreased at 1.50$. And in my "Commissions and Payments Summary" I've got an "Adjustments:    $-1.50" record.
Did someone get the same experience ?
'
Yes, I probably average about one a month. It often says 'Adjustment (Invalid Transaction)'

GLStock / Re: Sales anyone?
« on: March 03, 2013, 12:52 »
Not many sales, 23$ so far this year but so easy to upload to that I will stick with them.  No catagories and no linking releases makes uploading easier than at any other site.

I made virtually the same Feb 13 as I did in Feb12 but it will be 40 to 50% more once the PP is added.  Nor sure why because I rarely uploaded anything there last year.
Just to get it in perspective, it's about 35% of Feb 2011

the populate button is not able to batch process multiple files same time right?

i do use the populate button to assign categories..but one need to click agree and 'submit' for every files right?

shutterstock..fotolia.. and every other site that you can move the similar files just by doing 1 time..

if you have 10 image from same situation, why need to repeat 10 times?

basically the worst submit is istock, and dreamstime is second..

it takes more than one year for them to admit a mistake and realize it is lost lost situation for everyone..

and how about the batch edit process?

even fotolia had a batch process.. nowadays a lot of ppl start as 1000k portfolio..not really just some weekend hobbies..
Do you use the populate button?  Makes it all a lot quicker, especially or catagories and model releases.
You are quite right about that but I have come across people that didn't know how the populate button worked and it really does make life easier.

Really?  In my opinion BS has the worst list of categories.  Or should I say the most incomplete list of categories.  I can't properly categorize 90% of what I submit there.  (Correction.... what I used to submit there.  Have held off until I decide if I'm staying).
You're probably right. My images have been submitted automatically to BigStock via the Bridge for so long that I don't remember what their categories are like. I do recall that I dreaded submitting there.
I can't remember what the BS catagories are like either but the Fotolia ones are a PITA!!

Newbie Discussion / Re: Composings
« on: March 01, 2013, 10:32 »
By composings I am not talking about single photos but pictures made of several photographs like those in the portfolio of Vizerskaya:
http://www.istockphoto.com/search/portfolio/5767540/?facets={%2225%22%3A%226%22}#a80ef49

Is she an exception because she is famous?

I think she is the exeption because she produces amazing above average images.

Not sure what you mean by composing but send a few to the agencies and see if they are suitable or not.  Or put some up here for us to take a look at.

Don't know what's going on at SF the last couple of weeks, but I hope it keeps up.

Very nice.  I've never even reached 20$ a month at Stockfresh.  Shame but they just don't seem to sell for me.

You don't need to attatch them but just make sure that they are uploaded to the site.  It is taken on trust that you have uploaded the correct releases.

548
Features are nice, but it really comes down to price, royalty rate and licensing agreement. If those are good, then it's something I'd consider.
(Personally I've always preferred iS to all the others, there's something about it that makes it nice to use.

Really?  I find that site soooo slow that I can check out several other sites while the page is opening there.  I often wonder how buyers put up with the slowness of the site.

549
I'm a bit out of my depth with all this but following with interest.

I think that it was right to make an example of them by making them pay decent money.  Might teach other people to be more careful with our images.
