iStockPhoto.com / Re: 468 views and no downloads« on: January 17, 2008, 19:58 »
i have a number of shots that have high views with few sales. The reason was the shot was featured on the site. i reckon most of the views would be from other photographers.

I am right there with Leaf. Even an old 10D.
And for . of it, I bought an old police forensic camera - Nikon D1H at a police auction for $250AUS. You can get reasonable priced lenses for it as well. 529

Leaf. I prefer to use a clipping path around the object. the designers seem to like this.

I think you might be in for a law suit. I suggest that if you want a stock photo site you do not trade off another business trading name

At the same time my portfolio has grown, the sales have diminished. This month I think I will be lucky to sell 60 images.

I have 128 photos on SV. And had 9 downloads.
So far $1.80. I have loaded 190 drawings for T Shirts on Red Bubble and just got my first payout. 537
Cameras / Lenses / Re: 1000 = What camera to buy?« on: December 05, 2007, 22:40 »
Well I am a Canon user. I believe 1000 Euro is about $1460 US dollars?
I would go the Canon Rebel xTi for about $500. And a Canon L series lens ... f2.8 24-70 for about $1000 Michaelo is right in essence with his equation, but for under 1000 Euro you would have trouble going below the xTi as the baseline. 538
StockXpert.com / Re: Property Release on Residential Houses?« on: November 19, 2007, 17:23 »
my interiors are my best selling shots.
I have gone to the point of deleting any paintings/photos in view and replacing those bits with my own art. but now, every site I am on rejects EVERY interior shot. Frustrates me to hell. Added to this i can get a property release, but i have had issues where the sites will not accept a generic property release. 540
General Stock Discussion / Re: Red Bubble« on: November 07, 2007, 05:20 »
I have sold one thing.
It appears the majority of the buyers the sellers themselves. For instance with T Shirts, anyone with a graphic program can download pics and logos and make their own cheap T Shirts. Once they order it themselves, they delete the file. I don't see much advertising for Red Bubble. 541
Photo Critique / Re: Does this illustration need a model release?« on: November 01, 2007, 15:03 »
Whiz, Susan S is correct, there was another person on this site a while ago who got banned because when they submitted, they forgot to delete the layer they traced from.
Personally, I don't see an issue if: You only use the pic as a source for reference points. Similar to what an artist does when painting. The image is not "photographic" (ie) the image is cartoonish etc. Remember, artists, all artists (including photographers) tend to be a little bit precious about their work. Off Topic / Re: Domain Names. What's yours and why?« on: October 29, 2007, 15:20 »
because of the way search engines work, a domain name is not all that important anymore.
it has to be rememberable and relevant, and that is about the end of it. dreamstime does not say anything about stock photos, and yet they are successful. the actual "best names" is a myth, continued by those who have parked domain names in the hope of selling them to someone at a later date. of course, in Australian that is illegal for .com.au names. It is illegal to sell a domain name, it can only be transferred at no cost. 544
Cameras / Lenses / What a rip off Canon!« on: October 29, 2007, 15:10 »
I am sure other manufacturers do this, but this is particularly about Canon.
The recommended price for the Canon 40D in the USA is $1299, and in Australia it is $1999. The Australian dollar has hovered at 90 US cents for months, and it is now 92 cents. Based on that, the price in Australia should be around $1400 Australian dollars for the 40D. This is an unethical practice called skimming. They do it all the time in Australia, and wonder why people buy stuff overseas and import. 545

This is pathetic. Imagine the grief you would get if you stole some of their story and reprinted it without their permission.
But this has been my experience with the media. I have had major newspapers steal my story ideas even to the point of repeating quotes I made in the submission as content. 547

I wonder if they hurt when they bite? Like sandflies or something.
If they do, it is probably a good idea to advertise because it could be causing someone inconvenience. I just read about them on wikipedia. They spread to humans from gorillas 70,000 years ago. So now I am thinking, man ... gorilla, together? Or unless they shared the same towels. I heard they can spread that way as well. 550

Wonder if that Genitrax works?
Says it dissolves them on contact. What's with that? I mean, don't crabs have hard shells or something. If it dissolves crabs, what else does it dissolve. Maybe you only use a little bit, or try it on one area at a time. |
