Strange, some people still resist to see what's going on. I sell video on P5 on average 35$.
So do a lot of us but that doesn't affect the basic fact that many people got a LOT more sales on SS (and elsewhere) than P5 which brought in substantially more money. My average monthly income from SS video last year (and previous years) is 5x what P5 brought in the same month with same videos. AS roughly 3x P5. Doesn't matter if you get paid higher per download if the number of downloads is drastically lower.

Adding to that, a lot of images dont end up online to be found. The only way you can get lucky to detect an image used illegally is if its never sold before (or very few times).
FWIW from my experience, misuse of a license is more common than outright theft. And thats even harder to track.

IT seems they've started moving more and more onto much cheaper subscription and streaming sales.
Ive gone from a lifetime average RPD of $21 a video to $5.30 in January. A 75% decrease. The drop from level 3 to level 1 alone doesn't come close to explaining that.
February is even worse where im getting plenty of sales for under $1 and my BEST is $2.67
The problem isnt the level cut - its buyers are now paying a lot less for the product in the first place.

More accurately the shop assistant sells a pair of shows and the manager/boss processes the payment using a credit card that turns out to be stolen. The assistant did their job so why should they be punished for it?
We don't even know if these adjustments are very new, higher than usual fraud or just their own accounting system screwing up with the level resets. As usual SS offer no explanation.

If we're suddenly seeing so many of these, are we thinking that this is a change made by Shutterstock (maybe they have gotten better at determining if transactions are fraudulent) or are we thinking there has simply been a rise in fraudulent purchases recently? Any idea which one it might be, or possibly something else?
That or their systems went a bit nuts with the level reset.

Looking on the SS forum a lot of people had "adjustments" and they appear on an adjustment tab in the earnings summary page. There's a thread about it where a lot of people had the issue.

Youre dead right! any country where 5 bucks a day goes a long way! thats their nursing targets!
A quick look on the FB groups show that. People prodly posting $10-$20 a month earnings, plenty of people jealous or saying amazing, others asking how they can sell as much. This is SS key contributor market now - people who will upload for effectively nothing. They dont need/want quality - there's Custom and Offset for that.

I don't understand why peoples total month earnings are down from 1 year ago unless they just have the same image quantity as a year ago. I only upload 25 images a week but am $100 up this month from a year ago and only submit to the 5 main agencies. As long as I keep adding photos my earning increase. iStock non exclusive giving me double of Adobe and Shutterstock.
Because each image same now returns 50% less commission and each video sale 75% less commission than 1 year ago....

Yes of course they remain the same!^^ but all revenues are geared towards the eastern blocks, Thailand etc, etc. the actual search algorithm is aimed towards that. SS have been nursing these markets for many years now!
India and Pakistan seems to be their main target for contributors (image farms etc).

The numbers are in and worse than i thought.
Compared to average lifetime RPDs im down 48% for images (down to $0.39) and down 75% for video (from $21 or so to $5). Download *numbers* remained consistent, a bit higher than average so its not covid or recession, its simply being paid a LOT less for the same thing, particular with video where almost every sale was a pathetically low subscription.
I actually sold more videos than the last few months and earned 75% less.

75% down looks about right for me. Even working back up through the levels its not the video *level* that's killing me, its all sales are now subscription/tiny and i get a % of that.
My video sales per same number of downloads are 84% down this January compared to last.

ROFL -- comparing Jan 2020 to 2021 as if all things were equal - US has 400K dead, and a cratering economy from a global pandemic - might that have anything to do with year to year sales
12+ million unemployed - more than double 2019
Not really when number of downloads remains consistent to last year. Perfectly possible to compare to last year as a whole, or since June or whatever. For most of us, sales volumes remain pretty much the same. Its the commission cut doing it.

Is it not a bit early for comparing last January when we are still in January? Im simliar with Dreamtime though, quite a few $4 sales and $1 dollars.....quite unlike them! Non-exclusive iStock still brings me in more money than any of the other top agencies.
Not really. Its 3 weeks in and for lots of people many hundreds of sales so perfectly fair to get a feel for average RPD/number of downloads and so on.

IT reads like a North Korean press release.
Rare to see a CEO so completely and utterly out of touch with reality.

So, yes indeed, it seems all new buyers can get ten free images. (Do suppliers get compensated?)
If you look on the buyer FB groups or even Trustpilot its full of people complaining they only signed up to get the 10 free images they wanted, had no intention of continuing a subscription and were upset when SS screw ups resulting in them getting billed. In other words, large numbers of people sign up purely to get the 10 free images they're after and never plan on actually spending money.

Ultimately they cut their prices so much they couldnt afford to pay the commissions. Then decided the only way to go is cut those and continue to reduce end user price.
Its pretty much the identical thought process to iStock.
Ultimately it all comes down to them mispricing their product.

17 video downloads: 48$ . RPD: 2.82. Usually, my monthly RPD is 12-20$. I'll wait for the rest of the month and see... Now at level 2, I'll need another 6 months to get back to level 4
This is where im being killed. Normal video RPD = $21 January 21 RPD = $5.50 Its not just the level cull, its all the sales are the tiny subscription/web embedded on top of that. Even when i get to my previous level it'll still be half as the type of sales seems to have shifted.

I'll take your response as they should close accounts as soon as they get a complaint, and investigate for facts later? In which case you also agree that the Blackbox account being closed was the right way to handle this?
One complaint no, you give the person time to prove ownership. 5 working days max should it. But in the event of multiple complaints from multiple people, once verified it should be suspended immediately until proven. Theres a balance between doing nothing at all or being open to malicious abuse. Absolutely nothing needs weeks or months or multiple complaints to sort out. Other agencies manage this just fine.

4-6 weeks of accounts containing 100% stolen items isnt "slow to act". Its unwilling to act.

I am rather surprised that they took down the whole account, because unfortunately that's exactly what they don't do with ports with stolen content.
Exactly, they're very slow to act, if at all normally. However, its what they should do. Blackbox is just another user. If that user has stolen content, the account gets blocked. There's nothing else they can do - they dont know what actual person was responsible for the upload and the legal contract is between SS and Blackbox. Its a risk you run if you cede all control of your content and earnings to a 3rd party.

If I was to list my top 10 best sellers, I'm sure it is only human nature for people to want to copy them. And then they will eventually cease to be my best sellers,
OR just as likely, steal the actual images and reupload as themselves to sell with little or no alternation.
